At Prince’s Court Care Home the staff pride themselves on giving visitors a warm and welcoming greeting when they arrive, whoever they are. That’s what you’d expect, because Prince’s Court is in North Shields, close to Newcastle and in the North East people are known for their friendliness and hospitality.

Staff at the home are very professional, committed and caring, and work hard to forge close relationships with residents, getting to know as much as possible the residents’ individual needs, their likes and dislikes – to really know and understand them. They do the same with their families and friends, who they encourage to visit and get involved in activities, as much as possible.

Regular resident meetings are held, where they discuss what’s happening in the home and every effort is made to get them to be part of the decision-making process and to be involved in the running of the home.

One of Prince's Court’s priorities is to enrich the residents’ lives, physically and mentally and so give them the best quality of life that they are able to enjoy, depending on their abilities. This can be as simple as having a chat, doing person

My aunt settled well in Princes Court and found the staff friendly and caring from the outset (February 2020). As her condition worsened, we were very pleased with the level of care and attention she received. All of the care and nursing staff are to be greatly thanked. The only downside to Princes
Court is the seemingly inadequate telephone contact system. It was frequently poor and contact with relevant staff difficult.
Reply from Francesca MacDuff-Varley, Marketing Manager at Prince's CourtThank you for your positive and kind words about our Princes Court team. Feedback is very important to us and we have been working hard to improve all communications including the telephone system. Thank you once again for your lovely review.

The care in this home is outstanding! The staff are so kind! I feel happy knowing my husband is so well taken care of! The caring, kind atmosphere radiates throughout the home. I can feel it as I wait outside reception for my COVID test!
I would recommend this home to anyone with the utmost confidence.
My husband is making great progress in gaining confidence and mobility thanks to the intensive, innovative physio and encouragement.
Reply from Francesca MacDuff-Varley, Manager at Prince's CourtDear Angela,
Thank you for your lovely review, we are very happy to hear your feedback and will certainly pass it onto our staff.

Our Mum was at Prince's Court for three years. At first, it fulfilled her basic needs but Covid brought a new set of challenges for everyone. While some Care Homes seemed to go above and beyond during these times, we did not feel this was the case here. During Covid restrictions, our Mum's mental health
and behaviour deteriorated significantly and we feel that this was largely due to the extremely restrictive measures put in place both during Lockdown and continuing to the present date. A lack of contact from family and health care professionals together with no stimulus, we felt, left our Mum, age 90, with no quality of life. Our many pleas to Management about the impact of this on our Mum's individual health care needs remained largely ignored. It would appear that this home is more interested in the needs of residents as a whole and keeping them secure, fed and watered rather than what each individual needs to feel loved, cherished and cared for in a way that they deserve.
Reply from Francesca MacDuff-Varley, Manager at Prince's CourtDear Sarah,

Thank you for taking the time to leave us your review and I am glad to hear that you feel that your mother’s needs were met at Princes Court for the 3 years before the Covid-19 pandemic began.

During the challenging time of the pandemic, Akari Care has complied with government guidelines issued to ensure all of our residents, staff and visitors were kept safe. We were also regularly assessed by the Infection and Prevention Control Team, North Tyneside commissioning team, and CQC who praised the measures we have taken. All of our residents and the staff were also supported by the multi-disciplinary team in North Tyneside and appropriate plans were put in place for our residents.

Although your complaint has been addressed in line with our company complaints policy we are still very sad to hear that you feel your mother’s mental health has deteriorated and we can only apologise for any distress caused in this difficult time.

From the moment I arrived to be welcomed by management and the night carer, I felt totally reassured, and so it was to continue from the carers, the nurses, the physios and the cleaners. All were exemplary and I shall be forever grateful to them. Note for medical: please don't assume because someone
is on paracetamol that they need laxatives.

Staff are warm and welcoming at all times. They treat my mam extremely well and are always kind and considerate to her. We, her family, could not wish for better for her. She loves the staff and they, in turn, love her back.

Prince's Court was my sister's first choice of care home. A relative of ours had been there for a short time until her passing. My sister was very impressed with it then. She is very happy in there. She loves the staff and enjoys the food. Myself, I cannot praise the staff highly enough. Even though
I have not been able to visit my sister yet, whenever I ring the home or call in person to drop things off for my sister, the staff are always friendly, lovely to chat to and nothing is too much trouble when it comes to looking after my sister.

My Grandmother has lived at Prince's Court for many years. It has always been a safe and homely environment for her. Even though most of 2020 has pushed everyone to their limits, the staff at Prince's Court have excelled themselves. They have dealt with the extra difficulties with even more compassion
and understanding. All families with loved ones in care homes are facing the heartache of being apart but it brings some sense of relief that my wonderful Nana is cared for by the amazing nurses and staff on Albert Wing.

During my recent stay at the Royal Quays Care Centre (part of Prince's Court) the care of all of the staff was outstanding. Nothing was ever too much trouble and there was always a smile on their faces. The physiotherapist's care was outstanding and enabled me to walk again. The food could be described
as homely with lots of baked beans but there was always coffee available. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay with excellent service.

I'd just like to express our family's sincere thanks to the Activities Co-ordinator. He began working at the home just before the COVID pandemic lockdown and he has been nothing short of a saviour to my dad throughout this time. He has built up an amazing bond with him and without him being there during
all this time when we can't get in to visit, it's possible that dad may have become depressed or perhaps unwell even. He goes out of his way at any opportunity to help us have a video "WhatsApp" chat and nothing is ever too much for him with regard to helping out with dad. Apart from his great enthusiasm and desire to help, he is such a professional, sincere and courteous man. The very fact he is around my dad every day makes all the difference in my dad's mental and physical welfare. You're doing a fantastic job and you should be very proud of yourself. For everything that you have done and for all that you continue to do, we thank you massively.

I was in Prince's Court for respite from 9th September to 30th September. My stay was wonderful. Every one of the staff was friendly and very supportive, caring. Nothing was too much bother. My room was lovely, with a TV. I was able to see everyone coming and going. The meals I requested were fresh
every day, lovely food. I can't thank the Manager and nursing staff and carers, night and day enough, for looking after me. Wonderful home decor, lovely. Thank you.

From the moment I entered the home, I was greeted by very caring and friendly staff. They are always smiling. I am confident for my husband to be cared for by them. His personal care and hygiene are carried out with dignity and he is looked after just as I would have done. I will say that I am included
in his care, they let me know how he is progressing, being informed of all his treatment and also told everytime that a professional is consulted about his treatment/care. They have special ways to encourage him to eat and drink. They deserve a 5-star rating. The whole home is run to a very high standard, all staff are happy in their work community with each other so that everybody feels at home there. The change in my husband is remarkable and for the first time in a year, since his move to Prince's Court. I feel confident he is looked after. Thank you to all the staff.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.726)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.726) out of 10 for Prince's Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 29 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 28 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.726 for Prince's Court is calculated as follows: ( (274 Excellents x 5) + (49 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (4 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 340 Ratings = 4.726
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Prince's Court is based on 28 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 75 registered maximum number of service users is 15, which has been reached with 28 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
