I have been here over a year now, my room is nice and homely. I have lots of my own things. I'm happy and settled here, I have everything I need. The staff are very good and there is lots to do.
Everyone is very pleasant. Cleaners always work very hard, the place is gleaming. The activity girls are extremely good, always come into see me every day, I spend a lot of time in bed but I am always invited to join in, I am particularly interested in art work so I like to get up and join in with that. Management is great the place runs like a dream, laundry staff are nice they do a good job. The carers do a lot of work, I am always thanking them. Food is okay I would like to see more variety, mainly at tea time.
I'm very comfortable here, I like it very much. I enjoy going to the hair salon and having my nails done. There is lots to do and always someone to talk to. It's lovely.
This is my fifth stay in respite here, I enjoy coming back, everyone is friendly and very helpful. I've made some pals and enjoy it every time I come. There's lots to do, always busy and interesting. I enjoy joining in with the activities and I like going out on outings. The food is lovely , I can have anything I want.
When mam came here the home was not full and lots of work going on, it was quite dirty and hectic but it has gradually got better and better. Mam seems happy now after the upheaval of moving home. So in general i am quite pleased with the home. She enjoys her food but often says the portions too small.
Since my wife came to Howdon I have been very impressed with the care that has been given, so much so that i have considered coming to live here myself. The staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them. The activities team involve my wife as much as they can and are always willing to assist my wife in any way they can. I chose Howdon Care Centre as I don't think I could have chosen better.
Our family was relieved and delighted to find this establishment, which caters for all levels of dementia through ro the end. Howdon looks good and smells good and the staff - all of them - are unfallingly helpful and sympathetic. They are just what my mum needs.
Staff are top class, management is great. All the staff are lovely and treat me as if I were their own family, I love it here. I cannot fault anything from the laundry to the handyman, food and drink is beautiful, care staff are worth their weight in gold, they're brilliant. The two girls in the office are always very pleasant and have time to chat with me. I enjoy joining in with events taht are organised on a daily basis to keep me busy. And last but not least our manager runs this place just great.
The home provides a caring environment for my mum. They are very responsive to ours and her respects.
Staff are lovely, my family visit regularly. I enjoy getting my hair done weekly, in the hairdressing salon along with a manicure. The food is nice. I enjoy going out on the minibus and playing dominoes. Nothing is a bother or too much for staff to do..
It is ideal here I can't fault it. Everything is lovely I'm very happy.
It's gorgeous here. I have lots of friends. There is always lots going on and we have fun and I love the dancing and singing.
Mam has been in home for 6 months, staff seem caring and look after her. Activities ladies are very good and caring. Sometimes there doesn't seem to enough staff on, if a buzzer goes they have to wait to be seen to but staff come a soon as they can, but some residents need two staff.
Our mother is a resident in this home and we couldn't be happier. The staff are all very caring and patient. They are also very helpful. Since our mother came into this home there have been no issues. Mother is always asking when she will be going home but the staff deal with without any upset to mother.
Poor communication between carers, nursing staff and management, important information relating to my husbands condition not relayed between staff?
In my opinion not enough staff for the amount of residents?
Not much interaction between staff and residents due to staff being too busy doing other things?
I find it difficult to get an update regarding my husbands eating, medication, just in general how he has been as staff are too busy and records are kept in the office on another level. These are questions asked by his consultant at hospital appointments to monitor his condition.
There is an events co-ordinator, however I visit every day and I have seen things advertised but not much seen not much happening even though I visit at different times?
Not very pleasant living space, carpets, flooring mismatched throughout. I can only comment on my husbands bedroom but it s very small a bit on the tired side, bathroom door hanging, grotty and grubby. My husband is unable to communicate with staff but they keep closing bedroom door which exacerbates the problem?
Several problems regarding daily care i.e. dressing, shaving, appearance re-occur on a daily basis.
Truthfully I think this home caters more for the care of old people who just need care for everyday needs such as washing, dressing and eating I do not think they have the expertise or staff for anyone with complicated needs. This is not a reflection on the staff but the way the home is actually run.
I could go on but....
My husband has been here a month and nothing has changed my mind. If it were not for the fact that this will only be a short stay I would most certainly be looking for somewhere else.
Thank you for taking the time to review Howdon Care Centre. It disappoints me to read the issues you’ve raised about the service here. I can assure you that all of the team here are always kept fully up to date with important information about the residents who are always at the heart of everything...
My mother has settled in very quickly and the quality of care has been excellent, together with the organised activities.
Staff are very helpful and caring and kind.
This care home is very good, my brother was well cared for. Staff are all excellent and very caring, they couldn't have been better in all ways. No smells at all. Food very good.
This home was fine but I have moved my husband for my health reasons and it was nearer for me to visit.
The staff make you very welcome. The residents are very well looked after, nothing seems a bother to the staff. It is very clean and tidy, the cleaners are on the go all the time. They deserve more money.
