Falstone Manor Care Home, located close to the seafront of Roker, provides personalised residential, nursing and dementia care to older people.

Located just a short distance from the seafront, Falstone Manor offers residents a good choice of spots to relax and socialise. Benefiting from a recent refurbishment, the home also offers a hairdressing salon and a room designated for residents wishing to pursue hobbies and interests. The attractive garden is a favourite place for many residents and is cared for by some of the most green-fingered members of the Falstone home.

It wasn't an easy decision to put Mam into a care home but couldn't have chosen a better one. Kind, friendly staff who showed Mam lots of love and helped to retain her dignity through difficult times. Would highly recommend this nursing home, which has a lovely position overlooking the sea.

The care my Mam received was second to none. She loved it and I did too. We were always made to feel welcomed and nothing was too much trouble. We have loved making friends with the staff and will miss not seeing them.

I would like to thank the staff at Falstone Manor for their ongoing care of my dad. They are very attentive to his physical and mental wellbeing. Too many people to name individually but they are all extremely attentive and caring. Particular mention must go to one individual who has provided much needed
male companionship and support to my dad. I would like to thank you all.

Falstone Manor was purpose built as a Care Home, it's obviously well suited to the purpose and is in a prime seafront location with great views. Parking is always available. Three floors have about 50 rooms which cater for different levels of need. Our mam is on middle floor pays extra £100 a month
for sea view. It mostly smells fresh due to the sea breezes and cleaning and care staff, in general, do a good job. Having visited a few homes before settling on this one we are relatively pleased with the standard of care. The residents are served meals in the restaurant on set tables. Our mam doesn't eat very well so we are keeping an eye on her intake. Some activities are arranged centred around the main lounge. Many of the care staff are first rate. You can tell they are dedicated to providing a kind caring service. Rooms have own toilet but shower room is shared. Some rooms are larger than others. Mams room could be a bit bigger to accommodate things she needs like wheelchair etc.

In my point of view, the nursing staff and management are always kind and polite and keep myself up to date with any issues regarding my relative. A well-managed home. Well appointed and immaculately clean. The staff are very friendly and caring. We could not have chosen a better home for our Dad. It was what he deserved. The very best.

Falstone Manor and all the carers surpass any preconceptions of what I expected it to be.
They are all professional, caring, attentive, loving and genuine.

My mother needed palliative care and I couldn't have her with me (not enough room) and I didn't want to live with her so I choose Falstone Manor Care Home because it had a lovely feeling when I first went to look at it and, after she went in, still have the same feeling. It is 5 mins in the car from
my home and I go most days. I love to go as everyone is so warm/friendly to Mam as well as me and when I leave, I know they look after her as I would, so I never had to worry about her.

My father went into care in June 2017. After looking at many places we choose Falstone Manor due to its location, rooms, cleanliness as each time we visit there is never any "smells". Father settled in well, staff are brilliant with him and medical needs are met. Nothing is a bother to them and any
concerns are dealt with immediately.
He had his 100th birthday recently and everyone at the home made it a day to remember arranging a party, entertainment etc.
The staff were absolutely brilliant. Everyone who attended couldn't believe how nice a place it was with a lot of people wanting to put their names down.

The staff at Falstone Manor are exceptional. They cared for my mother with the utmost dignity, respect and with such compassion. All her basic care needs catered for to such a high standard but they also cared for us as a family, we felt consulted with, our opinions valued and we were listened to. The
GP who oversees the home and the team from St Benedicts Hospice also deserve a mention, who again treated mum with dignity, respect and compassion. To all of you, a huge thank you, this made such a difference to our final weeks with mam.

My previous job was working for NHS delivering and fitting equipment in the community and care homes.
Falstone Manor Care Home comes very high in care and quality compared to a lot of establishments.
But not enough care staff.

Overall the care my aunt receives is very good and she likes very much the environment it provides, both accommodation and meals. However, there have been a couple of issues namely attention to her hearing aids - putting in and removal and storage, and her dentures in the same way. This has been brought
up several times and reviewed with the nurse in charge. The attention to the aforementioned has greatly improved but there are still issues where the procedure has not been followed.

Firstly let me start with the staffing of the second floor which my mam is a resident on. For the ratio of people I personally don't feel there are enough carers. The staff work under so much pressure to assist every resident with their needs but 2 carers is not enough.


I am very lucky that I can

be with my mam quite a lot but I feel really sorry for the other residents. Food is not as good as it used to be, there is a book outside of the dining room saying what the meals are but it never matches what the residents have, not a great choice of meals like it used to be.

Thank you for raising your concerns around staffing levels at Falstone Manor, we appreciate all feedback received. We work within a staffing grid which is worked out based on the dependencies of our Residents – this allows us to ensure we have the correct amount of staff to Residents.


We respond to the needs of the unit following a dependency review each month. The allocation of staff is reviewed daily by the management team in the home, and the deployment of staff duties on each unit is the responsibility of the person in charge and is reviewed on a day to day basis.


With regards to your concerns raised around meals, our meals are based on seasonal menus, using locally sourced produce, created by our hospitality team to ensure maximum nutritional value, taste and meal experience for our residents. Any meal changes to menus should be communicated to our residents. Our kitchen staff and chefs are also happy to cater for personal preference and offer alternative options on request.

My husband was a resident in the Falstone Manor Care Home so that I could have a break.
He suffers from Parkinson's leaving movement very difficult. His memory is bad and can cause him to have mood swings. He is unaware of the time of day and often has problems sleeping at night. He also suffers from
hallucinations.
Many of my friends visited and they always found my husband clean and tidy. The staff were very patient and caring at all times.
The building was very clean and quiet. I would be happy for my husband to reside there again.

My Step-father was moved from hospital to Falstone Manor (FM) for palliative care, at the end of his life. Staff at FM have shown him great kindness and respect, to me and his family too. My Step-father has been well looked after. He is clean and comfortable. All better than when he was in hospital
to be honest. My sincere thanks to the kind, cheerful and responsive staff on the first floor who do a difficult tough job so very well.
