Highfield Care Home, located in the historic town of Yarm, provides personalised residential and residential dementia care to older people.

The comfortable home has plenty of well designed areas for residents to relax, socialise and unwind. The garden, hobby room and patio area make great places for residents to pursue hobbies and interests as well as spend time with their loved ones.

Highfield boasts a selection of specially designed dining areas that provide the perfect space to share meals with fellow residents, or family and friends. I needed respite for my husband who has Parkinson's and dementia and I was very pleased to find such a care home for him - they looked after him very well and I thank them very much for their care and support.

Think my wife was on dementia wing.
She has not got dementia.
Staff were always very busy.
She felt isolated and waiting a while.
She felt out of place.

All our staffing dependencies are reviewed monthly or beforehand if there have been any changes to our residents' needs. The current staffing levels we are working on are sufficient for the residents' needs who live in the home. I am sorry to hear that your wife felt isolated and out of place. We strive for a high level of inclusion within our home and daily activities for all residents. We do have a robust system for new admissions into the home, by communicating that we are a Dementia Residential home, completing show-arounds and a pre-assessment to ensure that we can meet their needs prior to moving into Highfield Care Home. I just don’t understand the 5-star reviews, this care home is lacking in so many areas. There are some lovely carers, however, my dad is not being cared for as I would like for him to be. The food has been atrocious, with no chef for weeks and residents lived off sausage rolls, beans and frequent takeaway
pizza. There is no nutritional value to the food.
The home smells permanently and is often dirty. There are not enough staff for residents and we often find dad sitting in dirty underwear, only getting attention when my mum raises the need. Teeth and fingernails are not cleaned regularly. Recently underwear with excrement in them have been found twice in his drawers, no one knows how it is getting there. The whole place needs a huge shake-up. There is a new manager and I hope she makes changes (the last one was totally ineffective and rarely seen). I couldn’t recommend it to anyone.

You feel there is no chef, and the food is of no nutritional value. We currently do have a chef and a head chef is onboarding. The menus are developed to ensure the correct nutritional value is given. We do on occasions have a takeaway; this is usually when it has been requested by our residents. All our staffing dependencies are reviewed monthly or beforehand if there have been any changes to our residents' needs. The current staffing levels we are working on are sufficient for the residents' needs in the home. I am sorry to hear that you feel the home smells and is dirty. We have recently had our flooring replaced in the corridors, lounge and dining areas and the home has recently undertaken a redecoration in all communal areas. The Home Manager undertakes regular daily walk-arounds in the home to ensure that the cleanliness meets the high standards we would expect. My sister has been in Highfield Care Home for almost 3 years. During this time her care has been excellent. The staff are all very caring and attentive. She is always kept very clean and tidy. She enjoys the meals and seems to be completely at ease and happy in the environment. I visit her often
and I am always welcomed by the staff. The atmosphere is very homely. The Home is always very clean and tidy. I feel I am extremely lucky that she has been placed in Highfield. I have great admiration for the staff. The Manager, his Deputy, and the Administrator are always available and willing to help me with any concerns I may have.

From the initial contact, everyone has been friendly and helpful. There always seems to be a happy atmosphere. I have noticed how skilfully the staff deal with difficult patients. When my family visit there is always a cheerful smile as we are let in and usually a comment about our family resident.
I know my husband has appreciated the good food here and if applicable the staff offer a drink to us. Thank you all!

Mam spent her last three months at Highfield, she had suffered from dementia for a number of years and was recovering from a bad fall. The staff at Highfield made her very welcome. The care she received from all the staff was excellent. They not only looked after mam through a very difficult time but

Both my parents were admitted to Highfield at the start of January 2023 and the experience both they and I have had has been excellent. The level of care, support and understanding of their personal circumstances has been outstanding and the staff are so caring, patient and flexible with them. Anything
they need is catered for, the home is clean and well looked after and management are available and accessible.

While spending time with my wife during the festive season, the home provided such a lovely experience and atmosphere. My wife was looked after so well, all staff are a credit to the company.

You lifted a burden from our heavy hearts when you took him in.
You are all amazing, and I will miss visiting my dad there and chatting with the staff and one lovely resident in the garden.

The staff are very caring. They take an interest in the client's interests and try to focus on them. If any significant event I am informed by email as soon as possible. (I live in Australia so it is difficult to have any close contact)
