Formerly named Blackwell Vale - Riverwell Beck Care Home was renamed in June 2022 to celebrate its extensive refurbishment project, GOOD CQC rating (May 2022) and next chapter under the management of Mariposa Care, providing first-class nursing care for people living with complex medical needs and 24-hour nursing dementia care, delivered by a specialist team.

Riverwell also offers residential care for people who need help with everyday tasks, as well as residential dementia care. The caring and compassionate staff go above and beyond to support residents to maintain their independence, encourage social activity and to build relationships within the home.

The home is located only a short drive from Carlisle city, close to Upperby Park, local shops and with good public transport links, making it an ideal location for visitors.

Mum came to need care by "fast track" from hospital. I was sceptical until we were introduced to Riverwell Beck.
From the moment we visited, we knew that this was going to be a caring homely place for her to live her last days. We have not been disappointed. Our tickbox responses reflect this.
The
staff shows patience and tenderness in caring for Mam. There are smiles and bright eyes when they listen and talk with her, using the whiteboard to ensure she understands. There is a commitment to a home full of love for Mam, us her family, and for each of the staff team.

Mum came to stay at Riverwell Beck Care Home after a long stay in hospital and in a temporary care home, she was made to feel welcome from day one. The staff have been caring and friendly with my mum. I love they don't mind when you visit and are always friendly and courteous. Mum is very withdrawn
after having a serious stroke and losing her husband, so I am hoping she will be included in some of the activities and be able to interact with the other residents and staff.

Very friendly and helpful staff, happy place meaning my mother is very content. Everyone worries when their parent has to eventually leave their home of memories and enter the different and strange world of care but when I visit her she is happy, more social and grateful for the caring staff. So that

My husband received respite care at the home from the 1st of July to the 12th of July. He suffers from MS and needs a lot of care. He has respite while major work was carried out at our home to provide him with a wet room and wash/dry toilet. We, his family, will always be grateful for everything the
staff did for him, as you will see from our options.

On the 23rd of June I visited my mam, who had had another stroke on Thursday. The staff were trying to get her to eat and drink, but one staff member in particular (young member of staff) was kneeling on the floor, slowly feeding her a yoghurt. His care and compassion, his gentle tone when he spoke
to her was exemplary. Who said not all heroes wear capes! I think they meant him! Thank you.

We arranged the placement at Riverwell Beck with the Care Home manager who was extremely helpful and understanding of our needs.
My sister settled well into Riverwell Beck and the staff immediately accommodated her needs and what she was able to do and the things she enjoyed.
We visit regularly and
the staff are always welcoming and our relative is well cared for and well presented. During the month our brother and his wife travelled to Cumbria and also visited. He is a retired GP and his wife has forty years nursing experience. They are totally happy with the placement and whole heartedly endorsed our choice of Riverwell Beck.
We are comforted in the knowledge that she is safe, well cared for and the staff are wonderful with her.
We are always kept informed of her well-being. Everything is in my sister's best interest.

Despite the fact that we could never have imagined our mum needing a permanent place in a residential home, we feel so fortunate that she was placed at Riverwell Beck.
We have only ever witnessed staff treating our mother with respect, care and dignity and she is always clean and comfortable. Nothing
seems to be too much trouble and we always receive a friendly greeting from staff whenever we visit.

The staff who work at Riverwell Beck are all amazing. They have patience, kindness and respect and nothing is too much trouble. They look after my Mum, who needs lots of care, with gentleness and understanding and I know that she is safe and cared for all the time - knowledge that allows me to relax.
The
home is a friendly place where individual needs and preferences are catered for and where the residents and their relatives are listened to. Many new ideas have been implemented over the past couple of years to make sure that residents are stimulated and entertained (if this is what they want) and this means that the home feels vibrant and upbeat as there is lots going on.
I really could not ask for more from the staff at the home, they have made Mum’s last years much better and I am grateful to them for all that they do.

My sister just moved in yesterday and has settled very well. She said all staff are nice, and I agree with her, for the ones I've spoken to. She has been made to feel welcome and at home. The staff have all been very helpful and check in with her regularly.

Mum is known by name by all staff, at whatever level, that she comes into contact with. Some activities have been tailored exactly to meet her interests. She has the dignity of her own room and staff always knock before entering. Her room is cleaned frequently and kept tidy. She has taken on a new glow
since living in the home as her daily needs are taken care of with love and compassion.
As for her family, our relief is palpable in that we no longer have to worry about her medication, eating, washing, clothing and socialising. The home not only cares for Mum but us too.

I came across Riverwell Beck Care Home when I was searching online for a suitable care home for my husband. He had just spent a month in another care home and the experience was terrible for both of us. I had to move him but was unable to cope at home. Hence my search.
Riverwell Beck has been a revelation.
It is purpose-built as a care home - not an inconveniently converted old house. It is light and airy, impeccably clean with pleasant, individual bedrooms, comfortable communal sitting rooms and dining rooms. The food is very good but the best thing of all is the staff. All are efficient, friendly, always ready to explain and help. My husband has been here for a year now. He has dementia and continues to deteriorate. My only consolation in my grief is the knowledge he is being cared for as well as is humanly possible. Thank you.

Very satisfied with Mum's care.
Staff are always approachable, friendly and attentive.
Mum is always clean and comfortable whenever we turn up.
Staff are very protective of her dignity which is very important to all of us.
We are never ignored. Nor is mother.
I've not commented on the activities
element because Mum is not in a situation where she could/would use the facility.

My dad is really well looked after and cared for in Riverwell Beck Care Home. The staff are always on hand to help and chat to him. I don’t know how we would have coped without him being cared for so well there.

The carers are very caring, and there is a lovely welcoming atmosphere. The last time we visited, the carer we met talked to my mother, reassured her and helped her recognise who we were. Otherwise, we would not have had any communication at all. So thoughtful. Thank you for all you do.

I cannot express my gratitude enough to the staff at Blackwellvale( Riverwell Beck) for the care and compassion they have provided now for over two years for my mum with severe dementia. They are so patient with her, encouraging and genuine look out for her wellbeing - there have been some incidents
which they have safeguarded professionally and always keep me in the loop of what is happening. My mum does not recognise any of us now but responds to staff like they are family which is lovely.

Wendy believes that every individual deserves the right to a warm, loving, safe and caring environment. Wendy is extremely proud of the team she has at Blackwell Vale and believes that they do an excellent job and it is through them, that the home has built its reputation as being a good place for people to come and receive 24 hour care. They are very much a team and support each other. Wendy’s door is always open and you can come and visit her at any time.
