When I realised that my brother was suffering with dementia and no longer able to look after himself at home, I made the difficult decision for him to move to Lanercost House Care Home. I am so glad that I have made this move for him. He has settled in readily and I cannot speak more highly of the genuine care and support which he has been given by all the staff at Lanercost House. This care has supported, not just my brother, but all the family are reassured that he is in the best place for his health and well being

I felt very reassured and welcomed from Day one. Excellent care, food, social activities and communication. Spend a lot of time in garden ( kept very nice ) Transport for appointments never a problem. A nice clean room, no problems with Laundry. Overall obviously expensive but worth every penny for peace of mind.

My Aunt has been a resident here for quite a long while. My mother has been in for respite care on several occasions.
I am my mother only carer and was unfortunately admitted to hospital with quite a serious illness. I contacted Lanercost and they stepped in with a room for mum and collected her from her flat. My recovery is expected to be around 6 months and mum has settled in so well she has decided to stay permanently.
I cannot praise the care and kindness that both my aunt, mum and I have received. They make you feel part of their family.

I have no hesitation in recommending Lanercost House.

Reply from Janette Lawrence, General Manager at Barchester Lanercost House Care Home

Thank you very much Candy. It was a pleasure to step in and help and we all wish you a speedy recovery. I am delighted your mother has decided to stay with us permanently and can assure you that we will continue to support your mum, your aunt and yourself in any way we can.

It became clear that my Dad was unsafe staying at home on his own, so as a family we decided that he should be admitted to Lanercost House just before Christmas for a trial period. The process was really smooth from initial enquiry to assessment to admission. He has settled really well. The fantastic staff really look after him and he is looking so much better. He is eating well, always looks well kempt and is enjoying the company of the staff and other residents. This is the perfect place for him to be looked after and we are pleased that he will now be staying as a permanent resident.

My husband has now been in Lanecroft for nearly 2 years. It was a very difficult decision and one that took a good few months before I could even come to terms with it. When I was finally able to visit, I was reassured by the positivity that exuded around the home. The major strength is due to the dedication and total commitment of the staff. Every one of them, whatever their role, have the ability to make you feel confident in their expertise and genuine care for the residents. Any nursing home can look good and clean, but it's the staff and management that take it to another level. I'm sure you appreciate that they are your biggest asset! P.S speaking as an ex social worker of many years, and a wife of many more!

Thank you Sue for your lovely, positive comments. It is heart warming to receive your feedback regarding our staff and I can reassure you that we very much appreciate them all. We are so pleased that your husband is with us, and, although I know it was difficult for you at first, you too are now very much part of the Lanercost family and we look forward to seeing you every day.

I am so glad this facility was available to me after my knee operation.
It's not a five star hotel, it's a five star care home.
All the staff did their very best over and beyond what I had expected.

Liaison with my GP/district nurse etc was muddled but not necessarily the home's fault.

When visiting Auntie I witnenessed love and care. All staff, cooks, admin, cleaners etc are understanding the rules of the setting. The setting is run very well with happy caring staff. There are no clicks with staff and while sitting with Auntie I couldn't help but iverhear conversations with other residents and staff They all were treated with respect and dignity. As visitors daily we were welcomed and staff updated the daughter and kept her informed with information that was relivent. Thank you all for an outstanding service

All staff we have met and looked after the resident have treated her with dignity and love. We stayed during her passing and heard the staff treating other residents with love and kindness. Nothing was too much to ask for I was looked after whilst being with me to ask her for blankets, pillows food and drink. Enabling me to be by her side. The atmosphere in the care home is warm, calm and happy. All staff get on and work hard which makes the running of the place clockwork. Residents are clean and happy. Activities are organised well and residents look forward to whats planned.

When organising care for my father-in-law the staff were extremely helpful and kept in regular contact .
Every member of staff was friendly and professional. My father-in-law was given the specialist support he needed and there was understanding and consideration of his individual needs.

As my father-in-law's condition deteriorated the family were able to spend time with him and the staff were sensitive to our needs as well as his. We felt he was in a safe and caring environment.

The staff are brilliant, quickly getting to know each resident on a personal level and understanding their needs thoroughly. This personalised approach makes a significant difference in the quality of care provided.
The atmosphere in the care home is incredibly positive, with everyone always smiling. This cheerful environment undoubtedly contributes to the overall well-being of the residents.
Kindness and respect are at the core of the care home's ethos. These values underpin every aspect of their care, ensuring that residents feel valued and respected at all times.
The staff are not only compassionate but also resilient. They consistently demonstrate a willingness to come up with innovative solutions to any challenges that arise, ensuring that the residents receive the best possible care.

My husband's aunt enjoyed a ten-night stay at Barchester Lanercost House Care Home while we went on holiday. She thoroughly enjoyed it and we were able to enjoy our break without having to worry about her.
She really enjoyed the food and the company of others at meal times but enjoyed being able to return to her room to spend time in her own company.
She said that all the staff were lovely and very caring and couldn't do enough for her.

She is looking forward to a visit again later in the year.

My aunt came to Lanercost in August 2023 gravely ill. Thanks to the wonderful staff at Lanercost, they not only revived her but gave her and the family 12 more months of life. During the 12 months, my aunt received quality, loving care and was able to enjoy a reasonable quality of life again. All staff (manager deputy, reception, nurses carers, cleaners, catering, maintenance) were always polite, courteous and helpful and displayed exemplary and professional standards. Barchester should be proud.

Hi, I’m Duncan, I work as part of the Activities Team here at Lanercost House.

I joined Lanercost in 2023 after taking early retirement from my career in banking as a financial advisor. I did take a few holidays in between, but the drive to want to work and make a difference brought me back to employment and I now enjoy working three days a week, doing something I love. Putting a smile on the faces of the Residents and enriching their lives through meaningful activities and interactions is the most rewarding feeling.

I am kept busy outside of work looking after my young grandson, and leisurely I enjoy good food and am an avid Newcastle United supporter!

Hi, my name is Sean, and I am the head chef at Lanercost House. I started working here in 2026 and have enjoyed making delicious, nutritious meals for our residents. I am always more than happy to whip up the residents’ meal of their choice if they don’t want anything off the menu.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoy working in the Kitchen and leading the hospitality team. I have always worked in catering, with previous experience in Restaurants and Hotels.

I look forward to meeting your loved ones and cannot wait to get to know them!
