Summerhill Care Home

Mum has been resident at Summerhill for three years now. Our experience has been entirely positive. The staff from reception, to care workers and nurses are always friendly, cheerful and helpful. We can leave Mum after our visits with peace of mind and the reassurance that she is in good hands.

My father moved into the Buttermere unit at Summerhill, in May 2025. He had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2019, which had progressed to the stage where he needed more specialised care, than I could provide at home. From having a first look around, I could see he would be happy here. Every staff member was cheerful and made you feel very welcome. I could tell by other residents that they were content and well looked after. Now, sixteen months later, my father sadly has just passed away, after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer - only three weeks ago. The staff in Buttermere are absolutely marvellous. Their kindness, compassion and professionalism is second to none, and the support they have given me has been tremendous - I could not have got through this sad and difficult time without them. Dad was always treat with dignity and respect, right up until the end - and I would certainly recommend Summerhill to anyone looking for a care home for a loved one.

Summerhill is a very good quality well run residential home for older people. The staff are professional, respectful and well, good fun! The low staff turnover is a testament to the quality but more importantly a real benefit to my mum's sense of ongoing stability and care. There are problems- the room are small, it's really hard for my mum to manage afternoon outside in good weather, and due to her deafness she is often (more) confused about what's going on or what has been said, discussed or agreed. In short, the brilliant staff are what make Summerhill great.

Would definitely promote home as my mum is very settled their and I feel like she is very well looked after and made to feel valued.

From the first meeting at reception we were welcomed with such kindness. My mum stayed here for a few months after a short hospital stay. The care my mum received was outstanding. Nothing was too much and the lovely staff were always happy to answer any questions we had. I am forever grateful for the respect and kindness that was showed to us. Just to add the food was amazing!

I come regularly to see a friend. The garden lawns etc are in a very good condition and there is no litter. The staff are always pleasant. My friend is well looked after.

I felt nervous about my mum going to live at a care home but when we found Summerhill and looked around, we knew it was the right place. She is on Buttermere and all the staff have all been wonderful, treating my mum with the utmost care and maintaining her dignity. The food is excellent and the wellbeing team organise lots of meaningful activities. The two ladies on reception are really friendly and helpful and provide a welcome environment from the minute you enter.

I have been here for 14 years and am very satisfied with the care I receive. The staff are very kind and helpful.

I think it is fair to say that were it not for the care, support and love which I have received during my eight month stay at Summerhill is is unlikely that I would be alive today to write this. I am lost for superlatives to describe everything at Summerhill but the words superb and brilliant come readily to mind. I arrived at Summerhill very ill and leave with fond memories of my time there and with many new friends. I shall keep in touch and visit often.

From day one my Mother was treated with respect and Kindness by all the staff at Summerhill. As a regular visitor to the home I was always greeted with a friendly smile and felt that I could approach staff it I had a problem. Mum was able to spend her last days being cared for by people that she knew, in a calm and comforting environment. My family are so grateful for the level of care that my Mum received as a resident at Summerhill and I would not hesitate to recommend the home to anybody wanting the best for their loved ones.

After my latest visit to see my dear mother yesterday I felt compelled to post a second review. Sadly Mum's dementia continues to progress but, despite this she always seems very well cared for and devours her meals. Kind and considerate staff go above and beyond the call of duty. Very grateful to all!

Our dad has been a resident for over a year now when he moved to Summerhill after a period of poor health. He soon improved with the support of the care team and has been in a steady state healthwise since then. Mentally he is much happier and less anxious as he knows the care team is there to help him when he needs it. We have been impressed by the whole team at Summerhill, from the receptionists to the managers we have met. Everyone seems genuinely engaged with the residents' well-being and willing to take time to talk to them and keep their spirits up.

My mother-in-law is receiving very good care at Summerhill. Staff and facilitates are welcoming, efficient and professional at all times. It certainly gives relatives confidence that their loved ones are being looked after well.

After five years of care at Summerhill, my mother has been well cared for, treated with respect and had her personal and medical needs attended to with kindness and good humour. I particularly appreciate that she is always referred to by her name, not 'love' or 'dear' or 'darling'.

I do feel that the staff work hard and would sometimes benefit from more staff to meet the demands of some of the residents. They sometimes appear overstretched!

My aunt is happy here (though doesn't like the amount the fees are). The staff are very kind and attentive. The food is good, but she does forget to ask for it to be cut up for her.

Have settled in well here after struggling living on my own. Made to feel very welcome, safe and well looked after. The staff are very kind and supportive. I am staying in a very comfortable room with good facilities, amidst friendly residents. Meals offer a reasonable choice but quality can be variable and not always served very hot.

The kindness, demonstrated by staff, provides us with reassurance, confidence and great comfort.

I was lucky enough to acquire a room at Summer Hill five years ago for my mum. As I'm very hard to please, this was my mum's fourth care home. On my first visit, there was something homely about it. First off I think it was the staff and the length of time they had worked at Summer Hill. Secondly, the residents were allowed to be themselves, the ladies and gentlemen weren't made to go and sit down, my mum was quite vocal and would wander up and down, she was allowed to be herself. I would arrive to see my mum at very different hours, no one knew I was going and the consistency was true. I arrived one Saturday morning and from outside my mum's door I could hear a young man attending to mum, the way he spoke to her was lovely. Moving on to January 2024 Mum was near the end and a young staff member came to work on her day off so Mum wouldn't be on her own. I was with Mum when she passed 11/01/24, nurses and staff fantastic, looked after Mum and me. Thank you Windermere, can't thank you all enough.

I am very pleased with the service Mum has received in her first three weeks with you. The staff have been very professional and welcoming, which has been incredibly reassuring.
