I take part in the activities so my friend will join in. I also enjoy them and have learnt a lot as well. The ladies Circle, which has just started is a good idea, it gets the ladies to chat together and make friends. The music exercise goes down very well and it gets everyone singing as well.

Overall Experience
Since I arrived nearly 8 years ago the activities 'group' have been dire. Yesterday I asked one of the staff on the activities team how much money had been made for a charity 'do', the reply was "It will be about £40". I queried this, she couldn't give the full amount.
The same person wrote the minutes for a residents meeting. She finally got them corrected on the second time. However, she did not record that a patient wanted it to be recorded that the laundry was efficient etc, this was not recorded the second time.
To my mind this is arrogant behaviour and unacceptable?!

Excellent "shopping" arrangements. Security has been a problem that has been sorted.

My father has only been at Summerhill Care Home for a week so far for respite nursing care. It is a lovely place, very clean and welcoming, all the staff are excellent and provide a top class service, well presented ad caring.

Overall Experience

My father spent the last 20 months of his life at Summerhill. I have nothing but praise for the care he received. The staff at Buttermere Suite were wonderful. They were his friends, they were skilled and competent carers and nurses, and they cared deeply about him. He was always treated kindly and with a lot of affection. He loved chatting to them and having a laugh. He died in his room at Summerhill, which was wonderful, and I was with him. I felt tremendously well supported - even when I was told quite clearly that I needed a rest and must go home for a few hours! I was treated always as if I was part of their team, and between us we made him comfortable and happy in his last days. Summerhill may be outclassed by newer, grander homes with larger and more lavish rooms, but what really matters is the quality of the care, and in my experience it's second to none.
