A beautiful home in the heart of Easington Colliery, it’s the team which makes Birchwood Court special. The home has a warm family feel, with many of the staff having been there for over 10 years.

They are devoted to enriching the lives of their residents and supporting them to do the things they love. There are so many trips organised, from riding on the beach buggies and enjoying fish and chips at Seaham Beach, to visits to the community over 60s club, and local garden and shopping centres.

There are welcoming lounges, where residents enjoy so many activities, from exercise sessions with 'Mr Motivator', live music and cocktails, to pamper sessions, with manicures and hand massages. There is also a cinema lounge for movie nights.

The home has its own pub, The Birchwood Arms, for themed nights, karaoke and games. The residents enjoy some healthy competition with table tennis, and there’s a beautiful hair salon, for regular appointments with the mobile hairdresser.

The community are embraced into life in the home, with regular community coffee mornings held there. School children often visit to enjoy activities, or to treat the residents to music and dance performances. Next door to Sanctuary Care’s Ashwood Park home, the residents often get together for trips and activities, creating lasting friendships.

With so many of the residents being animal lovers, the team organise plenty of animal visits, from pups and well-behaved dogs to more unusual creatures, like a pet therapy fox!

In the dining rooms they enjoy delicious, home-cooked meals prepared by the chef, from roast dinners with all the trimmings and fish and chip Fridays, to home-baking for afternoon tea. Birchwood Court also has a beautiful vintage tearoom, which a lovely place to relax with loved ones, who are welcome at any time. And there is a private family and friends Facebook page, keeping everyone connected.

From day one my nan was greated by some wonderful staff from manager, receptionist and all care staff. We were amazed at how Nan has settled in, also how they have all achieved to get her personal care back to where she was. She is settling in well thanks so much to all the dedicated staff.

Since mam moved into Birchwood all staff have been great, friendly, kind & helpful when needed.

From the first visit I have experienced a friendly professional attitude from all the staff. Mum has been made to feel cared for and made very welcome. Pleasant and friendly staff and residents. The room has plenty of room with a light big window, room for a comfy chair to watch TV and happy that I can have some of my personal familiar belongings. From first look around we knew this was the place for our Nan. The day she was booking in she was aprehenise about getting out care but the staff we incredibly talking to her and reasuring her she went in no problem. Nothing is a problem with the staff every single person is so kind and caring. My nan
has dementia and at home her personal care was slipping the first 2 days at Birchwood and she let the girls attend to personal care - hair cut and nails clipped. We cannot thank the manager and his staff enough we feel like they are looking after our nan like she is there own family :)

My mam has said Birchwood Court is a very good home.
Only problem she has is the no smiking facilities if Right staff on shift they will take her outside.
Enjoys her baths from staff.
Only problem with room is the bed originally had Profileing bed and was taken away

My mother has been a permanent resident since February 2025. She has a lovely bright room which is always spotlessly clean. The staff are always polite and helpful and don't mind what time of day I visit or how long I stay. Although mam doesn't always join in with the activities the staff do their best
to get her to join in.

Mam has only resided at Birchwood for 5 weeks, but she has constantly said how lovely all of the staff are, and how much they all do for her. She was unsettled at first, understandably as she had come from hospital discharge to the care home, but we were constantly helped by the staff in the task of
trying to settle her, and make her feel comfortable. In recent weeks staff have encouraged her to attend some of the activities in the home, knit and natter, and cake making, and she has enjoyed them. She is beginng to accept Birchwood will be her home now. The manager has been instrumental in helping too by enabling mam to move rooms at short notice.

The main point is staff take time to listen!
Always try to help where they can and give support. My mum has been in Birchwood for 18 months approx. Since the new manager has started things are improving everyday and the residents are a heart always trying to make there stay here safe and comfortable.
If I every do have any concerns there is always someone to listen and help. Birchwood is a lovely residential home.

My mother has had an illness during January and I must say the care she has received has been excellent as always. It is reassuring to me to know that when I am not there she is receiving 24 hour care of such a high standard. It is a well run care home with the wellbeing of residents at its heart.

It's fair to say, within the last few weeks, the changes that have been made are very noticeable. Making more use of the cinema room. My mam has settled in well and is happy in her new home. Herself and her family can approach all staff on any concerns and are always given attention and respect. Our mum was admitted to Birchwood Court Residential Care Home for 24-hour dementia care following a rapid deterioration of her condition. Every single member of staff that we came into contact with, from managers, senior and junior carers, cleaners and handymen, was amazing. The care and compassion
shown to our mum was of an extremely high level. Unfortunately, after a month in the home, Mum was placed on end-of-life care and died within a week. The end-of-life care provided at the home was exceptional, Mum was kept comfortable throughout, and we were informed and involved with every part of her care, even when we were not there, a member of staff was sitting in her room with her.
We will forever be grateful to the kind, caring staff that made our mum's last days peaceful.

Lovely care home, at Easter there were lots of Easter eggs for the residents, colouring in, photo’s taken with big blown-up bunnies, and Easter cards made with the photos and sent to the families on an Easter card it was beautiful. The staff are lovely and welcoming and always there to talk to.
