A beautiful home in the heart of Easington Colliery, it’s the team which makes Birchwood Court special. The home has a warm family feel, with many of the staff having been there for over 10 years.

They are devoted to enriching the lives of their residents and supporting them to do the things they love. There are so many trips organised, from riding on the beach buggies and enjoying fish and chips at Seaham Beach, to visits to the community over 60s club, and local garden and shopping centres.

There are welcoming lounges, where residents enjoy so many activities, from exercise sessions with 'Mr Motivator', live music and cocktails, to pamper sessions, with manicures and hand massages. There is also a cinema lounge for movie nights.

The home has its own pub, The Birchwood Arms, for themed nights, karaoke and games. The residents enjoy some healthy competition with table tennis, and there’s a beautiful hair salon, for regular appointments with the mobile hairdresser.

The community are embraced into life in the home, with regular community coffee mornings held there. School children often visit to enjoy activities, or to treat the residents to music and dance performances. Next door to Sanctuary Care’s Ashwood Park home, the residents often get together for trips and activities, creating lasting friendships.

With so many of the residents being animal lovers, the team organise plenty of animal visits, from pups and well-behaved dogs to more unusual creatures, like a pet therapy fox!

In the dining rooms they enjoy delicious, home-cooked meals prepared by the chef, from roast dinners with all the trimmings and fish and chip Fridays, to home-baking for afternoon tea. Birchwood Court also has a beautiful vintage tearoom, which a lovely place to relax with loved ones, who are welcome at any time. And there is a private family and friends Facebook page, keeping everyone connected.

Before my mother came to Birchwood Court Residential Care Home, she had been in another home, not a good experience. Birchwood Court is excellent, from staff to rooms to cleanliness, all above and beyond. Management is so helpful, nothing is a problem. My mam is much happier, her health (legs) is getting
the attention she needs. It's peace of mind to us, as family, knowing she is settled and happy.

My sister has now been a resident at Birchwood Court for the last three years. My niece and I visit her at least twice a week and in that time, I have found Birchwood to be a really good care home and residents are treated with respect and dignity. Personally speaking, I cannot praise the staff and
management enough for all their hard work, support and dedication. I know my sister appreciates their help and has a good rapport with them. I think the staff there are wonderful and are always prepared to listen to any concerns you may have.

I discovered Birchwood Court Residential Care Home to be a very conscientious and compassionate establishment. Leaving a loved one in the care of a nursing home is a very traumatic experience for everyone concerned and very heartbreaking. However, I found the carers and all members of staff, including
kitchen, domestic and clerical, to be outstanding in their work.

We are so happy and have peace of mind that my mum has the best care at Birchwood Court Residential Care Home. We cannot fault the staff, management and especially, senior staff with their professional care, kindness and unfailing compassion. My mum has been enjoying all of the activities which is endless,
they have been doing so much exciting things daily, it's just amazing. When you enter Birchwood Court, the atmosphere is calm, homely and a very happy one. The rooms are kept spotless, everywhere is clean and tidy. Thank you all for making my mum so happy. She loves you all as I do.

The staff work very hard at Birchwood, however, I feel sometimes more focus needed on residents personal care ie, teeth cleaning, hand/nail care and change of clothes. My mother needs prompting and assistance, and I don't think carers are given enough time to do this. During the lockdown, activities
have been so important for mental stimulation. I think more staff could have been used for providing the activities, especially weekends when the coordinator is off. Again, not the staff's fault.

My aunt has been a resident at Birchwood Court for ten months now following being discharged from hospital. In that time issues regarding my aunt's health and wellbeing have been addressed and I am happy to see my aunt has gained weight. It is nice to hear that my aunt is joining in with some of the

The staff at Birchwood Court Residential Care Home have always provided very good support and care for my mam. I am happy in the knowledge that she is well looked after, especially during these difficult times of Covid. They are like extended family and have supported both myself and my mam during her

I have always found the staff to be warm and welcoming. I speak to Mum on a weekly basis on the phone or from a distance on visits when permitted during these Covid times. She always tells me how well she is treated and how comfortable she is. I always look to see how she looks on the outside. Mum always
has a cheerful manner on visits, and her smile says it all. I am pleased with the caring attitudes of the manager and staff, as I know she is in safe hands and is stimulated by varied and interesting activities. I strongly feel that all staff have gone above and beyond in order to keep spirits high for all residents.
