Both my parents went into Defoe Court for respite which became long term due to their high level of nursing needs. Dad had Parkinson's Disease in the advances stages and unfortunately passed away in March. The care staff and nursing staff along with catering and domestic staff provided a high level
and devoted standard of care. My dad was nursed with care, respect and dignity before, during and following his passing. During this stressful time my mother who was in the room next door was cared for with respect and dignity. We were provided with privacy as a family but the staff were always at hand offering genuine care and support to us both mentally and physically as a family. The staff continue to care for my mother meeting her needs (she has COPD) and attend to her needs and requirements. Staff keep the family informed of any changes and I know I am leaving her confidently in the kind, caring and trained hands of professionals.

When I was told mum had to go into a care home it completely broke me and scared the life out of me after hearing and seeing all these horrible things that go on in homes with the elderly. But I have to say Defoe Court is one big happy family. The staff are second to none, they always have a smile for
you and a Hello! They look after my mum with the utmost care, they treat her like a human being, giving her cuddles and talking to her when she feels low. Defoe Court always keep me informed of what's going on, and this is a fab service, these people take time to do this. My mum is a very independent woman, even though she's 93, and I never thought she would settle, but thanks to all the staff at Defoe Court she has. All the staff are very kind and do a brilliant job. I would recommend this nursing home 110% to everyone. Thank you Defoe for caring and looking after my mum.

We've visited our friend every week since he came to the home, we can only speak well of everyone concerned. He gets excellent care and along with the staff I have been made most welcome. Always a friendly smile with a cup of coffee and cake. We always say to people what a good home and recommend it.

This is our first experience of Care Homes. Can honestly say that from our original meeting we have been treated with dignity and kindness throughout. The staff are all wonderful and treat mum like their own family. They go out on their way to accommodate all mum's wishes and always answer our questions
honestly. We feel safe in the knowledge that mum is being well cared for and is happy in her new home.

Huge thank you to all the staff who cared for my Grandmother until her recent death. She was only there a short time but my family tell me she had the best care and you were so kind. So lovely when you live so far away and can't be there to know that she was well looked after and so were they as visitors.
Thank you!

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.798) out of 10 for Defoe Court Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 34 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 34 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.798 for Defoe Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (332 Excellents x 5) + (59 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 401 Ratings = 4.798
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Defoe Court Care Home is based on 34 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 41 registered maximum number of service users is 8.2, which has been reached with 34 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
