Jack Dormand Care Home, situated just off the coast in the town of Peterlee, supports older people to lead their best lives with personalised residential, nursing and nursing dementia care.

The home offers a comfortable environment for all residents with many living areas overlooking the coast. The onsite hair salon, wellbeing programme and lovely garden are a favourite amongst the residents.

My dad has only been in Jack Dormand for a couple of weeks and have found the staff to be very friendly and helpful, which has helped Dad settle in. I have found it to be a very good care home and would highly recommend it.

Having removed my mother from a previous "home", we appealed to Jack Dormand successfully for a place. I can honestly say this was a very positive move, and all at the home, from the care assistant to the management, made Mam and the family welcome. They always answered our questions and "bent over
backwards" to make Mum comfy and content. Many thanks.

My mother has been a resident at Jack Dormand for seven months. Her needs and requirements on a daily basis are complex and extensive. The staff treat my mom with care, dignity, professionalism and affection. This care and attention ensure Mom is content, comfortable, clean and as healthy as is possible
for her condition. Any medical and physical hygiene issues are dealt with quickly.

My mam and dad were both in the home. Unfortunately, my dad died on 21st December 2021. I was astounded at the number of care staff who stood outside to show respect on the day of my dad's funeral. It made us really proud of how much they respected my dad. My mam is still in the home, and the staff
are marvellous with her. She has dementia, and they are so understanding and caring with her. Two of the carers, in particular, go into her room and give her a kiss and a cuddle before they go home. Their care is excellent.

Last year my 96-year-old mother-in-law moved into Jack Dormand with Alzheimers/dementia and a number of mobility and health issues. Covid rules made visiting restrictive but staff backed this up with direct contact to my wife and I. The care and compassion shown at all stages until she died recently
were outstanding with the initiative regularly being taken to assure us and make my mother-in-law comfortable and safe. We never met any member of staff who did less than go the extra mile for all three of us and unexpectedly there were some good memories of her stay.
Our grateful thanks go to all those who work there.

I have no concerns regarding my mother's residential home. She is in the dementia unit.
Sadly this year due to the pandemic I have not visited inside the home since February/early March. I know she has been well cared for and due to video calls I have seen her virtually.
Hopefully, visiting will
return at some point in the future so I am able to hold her hand, give her a loving cuddle and kiss. Thanks to everyone, nurses, carers, cleaners and admin.

Jack Dormand Care Home is above commendable. It makes other care homes in the area seem inadequate and sub-standard. My friend was, when active, an outdoor man but this has been catered for really well and he is still his happy self. The staff treat him like family and that includes the manager and
admin staff. When I am in need of total care, I pray they will have room for me.

My mother is quite happy in the home. She is treated with the dignity and care she deserves. The activities are excellent. I cannot praise the staff enough, neither can my mother's brothers and sisters who are really happy with the care she gets. Once again Thank you HC One.

Marie Shillaw

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2014

“For me, kindness means treating everyone you come into contact with equally and with respect and dignity.”


Marie has gained over 25 years’ experience in providing care and support for older people to enrich their lives. She is a knowledgeable and dedicated leader who is passionate about delivering the highest possible standards in care and quality of life for Residents.


Marie joined Jack Dormand as Home Manager as she closely shares HC-One’s vision in aiming to provide the kindest care for each and every Resident. She uses her experience to motivate her team to deliver care and support in a way that Residents gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.


She also works hard to arrange events and activities with nearby organisations and is always quick to welcome the local community to Jack Dormand.


When asked what she enjoys most about her role, Marie remarked: “I just love having the opportunity to make a positive difference to the lives of our Residents.”


Outside of work, Marie enjoys swimming and spending time with her family.
