My mother moved here from hospital with palliative care needs.
We chose Melbury because it was able to fulfil her nursing care needs.

The rooms are clean and comfortable. The staff are attentive and as prompt as they can be when the button is pressed for attention. Having a call button was important to us for peace of mind.

Mam is treated with lots of care and respect. She is always clean and her hygiene needs attended to when required.

The staff understand Mam's communication (non-verbal) and respond appropriately. I feel comfortable in the knowledge that Mam is receiving the best care possible.

Absolutely fabulous nursing home! Staff are brilliant, very supportive and helpful. Dad is so happy with his room, the medical support he receives, the variety of meals and the care he requires being given daily.

The staff have organised haircuts, chiropody and most importantly to dad, holy communion! Always lots going on, activities, birthday celebrations etc. Highly recommend!

My cousin has been in Melbury Court a short time, we have found the staff very friendly and helpful. The only issue we have had is his personal items have gone missing and had to replace them. As far as meals are concerned I can't comment as my cousin does not say much.

My mother has been in the care home for 2.5 years. I have always found the staff very friendly and attentive. The food is very good and the cleanliness of the environment is a testament to the standards that are set at Melbury Court. I have experienced other care homes and this is the best one by miles.

Mum has been in Melbury Court for more than three years. She has dementia, is blind and has mobility problems. We have found the staff to be caring, friendly and supportive of her and her needs. The staff know her well and have fun with her which she loves. Cleaners, kitchen staff, nurses, managers and all staff are great with her. Very reassuring to know that mum is looked after so well. The ultimate test is what mum thinks and she is happy there which means everything to us.

Melbury Court has been an experience that we as a family will never forget. For my parents, this was the most traumatic experience that they have felt. The management style and care was/is well below standard. Dignity and respect were not promoted for residents. My father describes his experience as being in a prison. I could go on!

I would not recommend Mulberry Court to anyone. My family are now in an amazing care home, that should be the standard and benchmark for all care homes. The management and her team are amazing. The standard of care is outstanding. We are so happy that my parents are now being treated with the dignity and respect that they deserve! My parents are thriving!

Overall Experience
Melbury is rated one of the best in Durham, however that was sadly not the experience of my parents. Staff (on the mixed residential/nursing) mostly clearly care very much but they are clearly understaffed so inevitably don't provide an overall consistently adequate level of care.
This, combined with too many inexperienced staff results in inconsistent and at times, inadequate care.

This is a not uncommon issue to many care homes, but that doesn't make it okay as both the residents and staff ultimately suffer.

Mam has been made to feel very welcome from the first day, as have all her family too.
Nothing is too much trouble, any problems we have had have been sorted asap.

The staff are all lovely and happy to help, but the agency staff sometimes are not great, and I feel they are not as trained as the permanent staff. Quite often they can't speak much English, which is a concern.

My gran seems to really enjoy the experiences with animals visiting the home and it brings the lovely smile back on her face. I would like it if she was encouraged to participate in more activities as she will often just say no to things as for some time she has been withdrawn. The home throughout the day always seems friendly, warm, happy with tasty meals and treats. I cannot review how well the home runs/staffed at night. Some of the furniture in residents' rooms could do with some maintenance. Overall seems like a good home with caring staff. I love that we can visit anytime and the staff always make me feel welcome.

My Mum has been a resident at Melbury Court Care Home for 11 months now. She has Alzheimer's and unfortunately is deteriorating. The staff have been amazing. They are so flexible and really take time to understand Mum, what she needs and how to make her happy. In addition you the family are integral to the care. Every single member of the team there are first class. The team that organise activities do a great job. The team on the Grace unit are so good. It has made such a difference to us as a family knowing Mum is receiving the best of care and she is so safe. Our lives have been transformed since Mum went to be cared for at Melbury Court. I can't thank them enough.

My Mum is looked after at Melbury Court. The staff there are all lovely. The home is clean. The carers are all really nice and show they love the elderly people in their care. The kitchen team provide some beautiful meals, which shows that they really try to provide meals that the older generation will enjoy (well-done kitchen staff). Top marks go to the well-being coordinator, she is so dedicated to making her clients enjoy their day, she loves all her clients and aims to provide a variety of interesting times for both the women and men. She is full of new ideas. She is a huge asset to those in the home and your company.

We had to make the difficult decision to have my dad made a resident of Melbury Court shortly before Christmas 2022. We decided on this home because of the reviews from friends that had relatives here in the past. The staff are amazing and have been very helpful and sympathetic in this difficult transition. Dad has not been easy at times but the staff have gone above and beyond to help him settle in. Reassuring us and keeping us updated on his care. I would highly recommend this home to anyone. Dad has Alzheimer's.
