As a family, we have been reassured by the way the staff provide care and support for my mother-in-law. Staff are always visible and responsible to needs and make visitors welcome. Staff make the effort to offer all activities and encourage my mother-in-law to take part in everyday life at Acomb Court, which helped her settle in far better than we thought she would have.

Moved here at the end of November 2025. We were very happy with the pre-assessment and welcome. She has settled into life on the top floor. There are always adjustments to make, and there were some areas of life that regressed. But overall, a calm and successful way of living has been achieved. We have been impressed and grateful for the dedication and flexibility, and most of all, their kindness in caring. We are still at the stage of wishing there was more day to day continuity.

I moved my mother from a good care home in Leeds to be nearer to me. The care and attention of the staff in Acomb Court is superior to that she was used to and she always has the highest praise for their manner and attention.
I have been impressed with the way everyone has worked hard to help my mother integrate into the community, and have ensured she has been involved in most activities. This includes a number of external trips which have helped to keep her interest in life.

I struggle to find anything of significance to suggest as improvements as Acomb Court is proving an excellent place for my mother to live.

The care and attention I received from all staff involved was, in all respects, exemplary and very deeply impressive. All concerned since my arrival clearly are naturally caring people who have been carefully recruited and appointed. Giving confidence in security and comfort, confidence and security in future stay.

Also, all food so far received to me have been most tasty, sufficiently high in quantity and quality of service than was anticipated. I am impressed.

We had to bring my sister back to the UK urgently after she had lived abroad for many years and needed care. Acomb Court has been outstanding in supporting us through this initial stage of what could have been a traumatic time for someone with cognitive decline.

Every staff member has treated my sister with kindness and dignity at all times. The care shown and attention to detail has demonstrated a very well run organisation with the emphasis on caring for the individual. The food provided is of a very high standard and communal areas are very pleasant. The rooms are always clean and tidy, as is my sister, who is thoroughly enjoying being cared for at Acomb Court. I would not hesitate to recommend. Thank you.

Mum arrived very thin and run-down. She is now looking and feeling a lot stronger and more able to engage with us all. She had a wonderful birthday party arranged by Acomb Court, where all her family and friends were able to see what a great improvement her stay here has made to her recovery from her hip and arm fracture. I am so grateful for the kindness and patience you have all shown to her and to me.

I come and visit my grandad here. I find the building and rooms well maintained, light and welcoming. All staff and management are friendly and welcoming and always speak. My grandad is well looked after and is always happy and content here, which is good to see. There are often day trips and activities which he doesn't always participate in, but it's nice to see things like that available. Housekeeping appears to be of a great standard.

So disillusioned with what was offered to what my mother received. We totally bought into the glitz & glam of the home appearance. 1st week, incorrect medication administer-CQC informed, assaulted by another resident, ambulance rang as a precaution. Residents just wandering in & out of bedrooms, so many time we had to look for her TV remote. Went in with a handbag and a few personal items. No where to be seen when we moved her to another home. Spent a week with no glasses, totally disabling & no sense of urgency to find them, other than looking in an old biscuit tin full of other lost glasses, had to buy new glasses. Mother took poorly with an ambulance being call, residents still coming into room with no staff to stop them, had to lock door to allow paramedics administer their care.

Lack of actives other than Daniel O'Donnell on the tv or hopefully being picked to go to the ground floor. Hard enough making decisions for you loved ones. Need vast improvement.

I am overwhelmed on the care and attention my family member (mom) receives. Nothing is too much trouble. We moved mom here from Barnsley, South Yorkshire a we couldn't find any care home to match Acomb. The staff treat residents like family and it gives me reassurance of how cared for mom is. The food, cleanliness, attitude and personality of Acomb would be hard to beat. My sister who lives in Hexham found Acomb and I am so glad she did.

Love the staff. Two staff members in particular are always sparkling. Another is brilliant. And another staff member is also a lovely person. They have great day trips and the place is so jolly and fun to be in. Always welcomes through the front door. Yes it's a good place to be and the residents are all friendly folk.
