Having visited my father for the last year in Acomb Court, the facilities and staff have all been of the highest standard and despite part of the last period being under the strain of covid, all assistance to help and assist both my father and myself as a visitor has always been afforded.

My husband has stayed at Acomb Court on several occasions when I have needed to visit my daughter in Germany. Without fail, on each occasion, he has been full of praise for the loving care and attention he received.

Staff have always done all they can to make the stay of their clients as comfortable as possible. Residents' meetings ensure that opinions are heard and acted upon so far as is possible when catering for all. It seems however that the overseeing of staff by their administration may not be all that it
should be or why should they arrange to leave and work elsewhere?

Thank you for your feedback with regards to Acomb Court and your positive comments with regard to our staff team. Since the Home Manager moved on from the home in February, the home has been overseen by a local HC-One Home Manager and also assistance from the Area Director. Recruitment is currently underway for a new Home Manager and from 4 April we will be putting in place a Relief Home Manager until Recruitment of the permanent Home Manager is finalised.

When we were looking for somewhere for my mother to go to recover from a broken hip some 3 years ago, both my brother and daughter visited several homes including Acomb Court. We all thought that Acomb Court didn't feel right and smelt of urine, Mother ended up in another home. However when I was sent
to Acomb Court from hospital it felt totally different, likewise did my daughter. I have to say I couldn't fault the place or any of the staff - they all did anything and everything I asked for. I was most comfortable and almost like a 5-star hotel. When my time comes to reside there permanently I would have no problem. I have spoken to several friends about Acomb Court and recently learned a friend's sister is coming there tomorrow. I hope she will be as happy at Acomb Court as I was. Thank you.

I have found the care staff ready to do their level best on any occasion. My brother enjoyed being resident in Acomb Court for a few years but had to move recently to another care home because of Dementia. Sometimes there could be more staff on the level he lived, but at all times he was treated with
respect and courtesy. The nurses worked so hard to meet everyone's expectations, and with a smile on their face!

My mother was admitted in 2015 when the home was under another care provider. Since HC-One took over I feel there has been a decrease in the standard of the home. The staff on the first floor have all been excellent over the 6 years but it is very apparent that they are always grossly understaffed.
The general maintenance of rooms, buildings, and gardens is now poor and places look quite shabby and rundown.

Thank you for your feedback which is very important to us so we can celebrate the things we do well and learn from areas which may require attention. In terms of staffing please be advised and reassured that Acomb Court follows an approved protocol in terms of staffing levels set out by HC–one and I can provide assurances that all Communities in Acomb Court comply with these staffing indicators. In terms of the general maintenance of rooms, buildings and gardens, please be advised that Acomb Court now has 2 fully upgraded and redesigned show rooms, one catering to the decorating taste of our female residents whilst the other caters to the decorating tastes of our male residents which is to be the standard expected within all our bedrooms going forwards. We have fully manicured gardens both front and rear with outdoor loungers and seating areas for relaxing in the sun and we have introduced to our garden bunny rabbits as permanent pets for our pet corner. Inside the building, our maintenance and decorating teams have been working for the past several weeks freshening up our bedrooms and communal corridors and we have also started work on a residents bar for the first floor lounge and of course we have our new café corner in the ground floor lounge to be enjoyed by all. I am particularly happy to hear that you rated our staff as ‘Excellent’ as they all work very hard and try their best to deliver great care.

My mum has been in Acomb Court for at least 8 years (1st floor). Although some staff come and go the core carers and nurses are wonderful. Always cheerful and smiling, so patient with residents, and very hardworking. We have seen many, many managers and hope the new one is an improvement and stays.
My mum is happy and likes the staff, food, and drinks. It is absolutely amazing that even though she is bed-bound she only rarely gets a tiny skin break or soreness which is immediately spotted and treated. Social interaction other than carers and nurses is lacking for bed-bound residents.

From the moment we arrived to visit my Aunty we were made to feel welcome. The protocol regarding testing was excellent, carried out by Administration assistant who also made us feel very welcome throughout our visit. Whilst seeing my Aunt the atmosphere was one of joy given it was her birthday and
staff visited her frequently, providing gifts and a cake. The care home staff are superb as is the overall impression of the whole facility. My Aunt is very happy with her level of care and the warmth of the staff.

At present my Mam is a resident and recently celebrated her 90th Birthday for which the Management and staff made the occasion very special for her. Not only that but in general, the care provided is excellent and more importantly if I or other members of the family need to discuss her care the management
staff are a pleasure to deal with. Would recommend this facility to anyone looking for care for a loved one.

My dear mother was at Acomb Court for the last year of her life, and throughout her time there we only have praise for the staff of this wonderful home. The care she received was exemplary on a professional level - with excellent nursing care, provided by very kind nurses and carers. More than this,
our relationships with Acomb Court staff went beyond the professional. Many individual nurses and carers developed a real friendship with my mother and showed great compassion to her even when she found communication more difficult after a stroke. The home extended kindness and welcome to my father as well, who visited her every day (until COVID restrictions prevented this). During COVID, the administrators too were endlessly patient, facilitating phone calls to my mother whenever possible.
The compassion from the staff continued right until Mum's very last day when we were given special permission to enter the home and spend time at her bedside.
Well done Acomb Court. Thank you.

The care my uncle and aunt received in Acomb Court has been excellent. The ethos of the home is to involve family and I was always made welcome and involved in my relatives' care. The home environment was always clean and calm, and the auxiliary services such as catering and laundry were exemplary.
I have been extremely impressed with all staff across residential and nursing floors, so many acts of kindness.

I was terribly sad when we could no longer care for my mother and needed to put her into a home. I dreaded it but all of the staff at Acomb Court were so kind and supportive. She was there for 15 months and in that time I was so impressed with all of the staff. They were wonderful with the residents
and their relations. They get 10/10 from me!

My husband is well cared for in Acomb Court. The staff are friendly and work hard to make the residents as happy as possible. The only negative is the shortage of staff but this is a nationwide problem throughout the care industry. The home is always clean and smells fresh and residents are always clean
and well dressed. They don't look neglected as is the case in some other homes I have visited.

I have visited a friend in Acomb Court Care Home and found this home very clean, staff friendly and management of Acomb excellent.
I have never visited a care home before and couldn't believe how happy everyone seemed and staff so helpful.
My friend who is there at the moment said she was very happy
and the food was excellent.
Unlike hospital, staff wanted to help my friend get on her feet and are able to encourage my friend. I can only say I was impressed with Acomb and may it continue.

Job Title: General Site Manager

What does ‘kindness’ mean to you?


“Kind care, for me, is person-centred care. It is all about the individual and their needs.”


Kinga has gained a wealth of experience in providing care and nursing support to elderly people during her 9 years in care work. She is a knowledgeable and dedicated leader who is passionate about delivering the highest standards of care and quality of life for Residents.


Having started as Home Manager at Greenways Court in October 2020, Kinga was the perfect candidate as she closely shares HC-One’s vision aiming to provide the kindest care for every Resident and has been a deputy Manager at HC-One for 3 years.


Kinga also works hard to arrange events and activities with nearby schools and clubs and is always keen to include the local community in life at Acomb Court.


When asked what she enjoys most about her role, Kinga remarked:


“Spending time with Residents and listening to their life stories. Talking about photographs and memories Residents have in their rooms.”


“I enjoy supporting and developing my staff in any areas they wish to expand their knowledge, seeing the positive outcome of it makes me happy.”


Outside of work, Kinga enjoys many activities and hobbies, especially spending time with her family and travelling.
