Our mother lived at Chester Court from 1st January 2026 until she died on 9th March 2026. We knew that her long life was coming to its end and she died comfortably and peacefully. We were most impressed with all the care she received at Chester Court and feel lucky and grateful that we were able to
choose Chester Court to look after her. The home is well staffed with all the people she needed and every member of staff was kind and caring. Thank you all for looking after her so well.

My father in law was taken in recently, the care has been wonderful, the staff are so caring.
The support and care also relates to his wife. The support for my mother in law has also been a lifesaver - we are very grateful.

The method of bowel management used (administer laxative and clean up as and when) was inappropriate and risky for a paraplegic. In the present case prolonged contact between stool and skin caused Incontinence Associated Dermatitis in the area of the anus and labia, and horrible necrotized the thin
skin at the site of a long-healed pressure sore: Much work for the district nurse.
Conclusion: use suppository of enema if needed for a paraplegic NOT laxative. Best of all use none of these for routine bowel management if possible

My Dad has lived at Chester Court for 5 years now. He has a great relationship with his carers and staff members, he views them as "family" in his words. My Dad is always well presented, clean and happy. If we have had any minor worries in the past, these have been dealt with accordingly to provide
the best outcome. My Dad particularly enjoys going out on trips with the Activities team.

My mam had a fairly short stay at Barchester Chester Court Care Home, Bedlington. My mam had a cancer in a very personal area, she passed away there on the 16th January 2025. The care and kindness given to my mam was amazing. The team there were outstanding. I could not thank them enough. Mam was treated
in a very professional way whilst staff still made sure Mam kept her dignity. They absolutely covered her with love. Also, through her final days, the care they gave to us, as a family, was amazing. The home was lovely and friendly and did not smell like a care home. All I can say is a massive thank you. You all are an amazing group of people.

My mam received nursing care, from 28/06/2024 until she passed away on 08/11/2024, by Barchester Chester Court Care Home. This was a very difficult time for the family but the help, care assistance and dignity offered to Mam helped us immensely.
Some of the carers and nurses were very professional
and it was very comforting to see the way they looked after and interacted with her when she was unwell.
We found your organisation to be very good with some exceptional staff and you should be very proud of the service you provide.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.733)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.733) out of 10 for Barchester Chester Court Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 22 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.733 for Barchester Chester Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (194 Excellents x 5) + (56 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 255 Ratings = 4.733
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Chester Court Care Home is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 41 registered maximum number of service users is 8.2, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Head of Housekeeping Joined: 2023

My name is Susan Dunn, and I am the Head Housekeeper here at Chester Court. I have been in this role since August 2023. Before moving to Chester Court, I worked as a housekeeper in care homes since 2017.

I have always worked in cleaning, but I enjoy working in care homes more than previous jobs. I love chatting to the residents and also keeping their homes clean and tidy. My main priority is making sure the resident's home is as clean as I like my home.
