After a very bad experience in a previous home, we moved on a recommendation to Hafan-Y-Coed.
In the short time he has been there he has put on weight and although he is prone to falling there are always carers at hand to help.
The staff are very helpful and friendly.

My mother is a resident at Hafan-Y-Coed suffering from advanced dementia. In my experience, I cannot recommend HYC highly enough. My mother is well cared for and treated with respect and compassion by the hard working and caring staff. I have found HYC to always be friendly, approachable and quick to
inform me of any issues my mother is experiencing. Having struggled to care for my mother for several years, it was extremely difficult to accept that I could no longer do this alone and that my mother would need to be placed in a home. Finding the right home was a major challenge, but fortunately, I was recommended to HYC which has proven to be a wise decision. My gratitude goes to all the staff looking after her.

I was adopted by a member of staff. She fed me and washed me without loss of dignity and a warm friendship came, also a rolling association with other members of staff. "Hi Babe" was a greeting between us all. It made me feel at ease.
Excellent care home.

I would like to thank all the staff at Hafan-Y-Coed for all the kindness and support that they gave to both my mother and myself during a time that was very difficult for me as I did not want her to go into a nursing home. But every one of the staff took away all my fears and I can never thank them
enough for the constant support that they gave us as a family but most of all the care they gave to my mum - thank you once again.

If you are unfortunate to need care and help, I do not hesitate in writing that Hafon-Y-Coed is the best home in our area. When I have needed care or help in any form it has been there for me. Not only are the patients fortunate in having Hafan-Y-Coed, Barchester Homes are very fortunate in having the
staff they do.

We have a great deal of experience visiting family and friends in care homes in the wider Llanelli area. We were greatly impressed by the ambience immediately apparent on entering the foyer of Hafan y Coed: more like a luxury hotel than a care home and head and shoulders above anywhere else in the locality.
This impressive start was only amplified with our every contact with members of staff, whose manner and attention to detail exemplified a truly dedicated approach to their various tasks. The decor, layout and staffing of every area again was reminiscent of a fine hotel and the ready availability of refreshments for visitors added even further to an uplifting experience, so different from the depressing atmosphere often apparent in other establishments.

The day my husband was admitted to Barchester Hafan-Y-Coed Care Home was a sad day. As my husband and I had been in the Christian Ministry for 50 years, on several occasions we had visited residents in Barchester Hafan-Y-Coed Care Home. The welcome we received was amazing, so warm and friendly. My husband
is suffering from Parkinson's which is progressive. There have been many ups and downs. Barchester Hafan-Y-Coed Care Home staff have always been helpful and kind to us both. It will be two years since my husband was admitted and I can say most sincerely I thank God for Barchester Hafan-Y-Coed Care Home for taking care of my husband the way they have.

A wonderful, caring team - respectful, kind, supportive and welcoming to family and residents alike. Hafan is a nurturing home-from-home where quality of life is enhanced and affirmed, and individuality is appreciated. I am beyond happy and grateful for having Dad move here knowing he is now receiving
the best possible care and that his days are filled with companionship, community and happiness.
There is a wide range of activities each week and regular trips organised. The good is delicious and freshly prepared and the general atmosphere is calm and relaxing. I cannot praise the home and all the staff within it highly enough.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.906)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.906) out of 10 for Barchester Hafan-Y-Coed Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 32 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 31 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.906 for Barchester Hafan-Y-Coed Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (357 Excellents x 5) + (14 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 381 Ratings = 4.906
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Hafan-Y-Coed Care Home is based on 31 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 107 registered maximum number of service users is 21.4, which has been reached with 31 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
