Ty Gwynno Care Home offers residential, nursing, dementia and palliative care to up to 46 older people in Pontypridd.

The home is just outside the town centre, with a bus route into the high street where residents can enjoy shops and amenities. It is also half an hour’s drive from Cardiff. The home is in a quiet residential area with stunning views over the surrounding countryside.

Ty Gwynno Care Home is cheerfully decorated throughout its lounge and dining areas and its conservatory. Each bedroom is single and has a television point and WiFi, with a lift to bedrooms on the first floor. There is a large, landscaped garden with a seated patio area.

An activities coordinator organises a weekly timetable of activities, such as exercise classes, music and entertainment, gardening and quizzes.

My sister is extremely happy at Ty Gwynno. I cannot express how kind and caring the staff are they take very good care of her. My sister is always joining in singing and dancing and when we can't get to see her, they put things that they have done or pictures of her. The care home is extremely clean,
so all in all, an excellent care home.

Visit arrangements were provided promptly and updates of changing visiting conditions were provided, also. Designated areas for testing were comfortable and warm. Admin staff were welcoming and explained restrictions and testing procedures. On the whole, a very good experience and our relative is well

My father-in-law has been a resident in Ty Gwynno for 18 months and we are so happy that we chose this lovely home for him to call his home, in his latter years. He is so happy and content with his surroundings and with all the staff. We always get a tale or two about what activities the residents and
staff have been up to. We are so pleased to see all the photographs and videos that are posted, so families can see how happy the residents are. I know if there are any issues, the staff contact us straight away, regarding eye tests, hospital appointments, vaccinations etc. He is always clean and tidy and we know how well he eats as well. I can only praise Ty Gwynno staff and management for the care and love that is given to my father-in-law, they are all so amazing. I would and have highly recommended this home to anyone who is looking for their loved ones to live in a safe, caring and loving community. Ty Gwynno is just one big happy family - thank you all.

I’m so grateful to all the staff at Ty Gwynno who keep my nan safe and well. I can see she enjoys the company there and is looking really well. My mother has been a resident of Ty Gwynno for approximately 9 years and my father was also a resident, until his death a few years ago. Both Mum and Dad have been generally happy with the standard of care and we as a family share that view. Our overall impression is that the staff are very friendly
and attentive and the catering is of a reasonable standard with a variety of meals and choices. The home is clean well kept and maintained and we find the management and staff approachable and attentive in the event of any problems or queries.
It is our opinion that the measures taken to protect staff and residents throughout the Covid epidemic have been managed and maintained excellently and this appears to have been successful in minimising the spread of infection.

The staff at Ty Gwynno are very caring of and attentive to my Mother and I know that she is safe and very well cared for there. I live 150 miles away and the staff are very helpful with arrangements for visits and keep me up to date about my Mother’s well-being between visits.

My Mam joined Ty Gwynno about 2 months ago after a 2-month hospital stay. She had always dreaded having to live in a care home but I can honestly say she looks so well and happy. She says the staff are very friendly and from my perspective, they are very helpful and will do everything to make us as
involved as possible. She is eating better than she has in a couple of years and even though she is reluctant to join in with other residents she is actively encouraged to do so daily. Visiting outside has been lovely and the staff are very accommodating in very difficult situations. To see Mam safe, happy and cared for makes the transition from looking after her at home myself, to her being in a care home environment much easier to cope with.

I could not recommend the care home enough. The positive impact both physically and emotionally the care home has had on my dad is priceless. Where do I start when it comes to reviewing Ty Gwynno and its wonderful staff! Through the last 12 months, the staff have gone above and beyond their duty to care for service users, their enthusiasm is boundless. They show love and care to all the service users, take great care of them, and continuously
keeping their minds off the pandemic with fantastic imaginative entertainment. Now we have come to a wonderful time we can all start seeing our relatives again; they have made a real special effort to see that everything goes to plan in a safe and organised manner. She deserves special praise for that. I am so glad my mother is in the care of these brilliant staff at this wonderful care home. I wouldn't want her to be anywhere else!

Whilst I have not been able to enter Ty Gwynno due to Covid restrictions, staff have been extremely helpful in helping me keep in contact with my dad.
When speaking to my dad, he always seems happy, and especially mentions how he likes the “poached eggs”...
Staff are very understanding and have been
only too happy to help/accommodate our requests.
I feel very happy with my dad's care and looking forward to visiting home in the near future.

The home looked after my grandpa really well in extremely hard times when we couldn’t see him. They were always friendly on the phone and helpful. I am very grateful to them, and it helped to know that he passed away with people around him who cared.

2020 was an exceptional year like no other and yet the Ty Gwynno staff were excellent as always. I cannot praise them highly enough for the care that they provide to my mam. I live in Dundee so have not been able to visit as per normal but I take great comfort in knowing that mam is in good hands and
being properly looked after. It's also important to me to know how they support my dad who has had an equally difficult year with the limitations on his visits to see mam.

Throughout a most difficult and worrying year for us all, I can’t begin to imagine what Mam’s life would have been like if she was still living on her own and not at Ty Gwynno. Team Ty Gwynno are now Mam’s family, along with the lovely friends she has made since she moved there in March 2019. Whenever
I ring Mam and whilst I’m still on the phone to her, she often relates my news with the other residents and has been known to put her best friend on the phone for a chat, this says how comfortable she is there. Ty Gwynno’s Facebook page allows us an insight into the wonderful activities that are laid on, and their daily advent calendar photos are just magical, I never thought I’d ever see 70-90-year-old elves! The staff have gone over and above in their care and dedication showing their utmost enthusiasm and professionalism whilst still also having to look after their own families. Thank you so much Ty Gwynno and I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

I was born in Pontypridd and here I have remained and settled. I am a proud welsh lady and am fluent in the Welsh language.


I qualified as a Registered Nurse in 2000 I have worked my way up through the following roles of General Registered Nurse to Unit Lead, Clinical Lead, and Deputy Manager, to my most recent post as the Home Manager of Ty Gwynno Care Home.

Hello, my name is Catherine. I am the Unit Manager for the EMI/General Residential Unit here at Ty Gwynno Care Home.


I have worked here for over 21 years, the last 8 years as Unit Manager. I love my job.


I find it rewarding and enjoy helping and supporting both people living with Dementia and their families.

Hi, My name is Abby. I am the Administration Assistant at Ty Gwynno Care Home.


I have worked at Ty Gwynno Care Home for the past 18 months. I was initially employed as a care assistant, however the past 9 months I have worked as an Admin Assistant.


I enjoy socialising with the families and being at the front of the home with a smile on my face. I enjoy my job and being part of the team.
