I have now had my first visit with Mum in her own room for a year, and it was a lovely experience for both of us. The process was smooth and felt very safe as everyone was following covid guidelines, while having the opportunity to sit closely to Mum without any barriers. We are all looking forward
to more opportunities for visiting in the coming months. Well done all and thank you.
Reply from michelle bowen, general manager at Barchester Llys-y-TywysogThank you so much for the lovely review, we are so delighted to be able to have you back visiting mum at last.

I am overall very happy with the care that my mother receives and she is very content and joins in with most activities. The quality of the food could be improved. My mother is a friendly person and is held back by her poor hearing which as of late seems to be getting worse which is very sad.

I do feel that my mother is left on her own for long periods admittedly for the last year things are different. Some staff go above and beyond their duties, others the bare minimum, nails not cut and dirty. Overall my mother is happy and settled. A little slow in allowing visitors out and in.
Reply from michelle bowen, general manager at Barchester Llys-y-TywysogWe are very disappointed to read that you are less than satisfied with the care at our lovely home. I would have been very happy to discuss any concerns you had with you at the end of your visit to your family member when we talked and before you left the building. However, on the follow-up call after this review, you brought to my attention some of these concerns were from over a year ago. I would like to reassure you my door is always open to discuss anything you wish at any time, and we will do everything possible to ensure that you are happy and to confirm that she is happy going forward.

It's difficult to articulate in so little characters why it was the biggest mistake as a family we ever made to place a loved one here. If we had our time over we would not have been drawn into a web of deceit and would have investigated further below the glossy exterior of the establishment. The management
is focused on cost reduction over care provision and this is evident from the disgruntled comments of the staff which is openly shared and heard. The caring team are limited by the standards they can achieve as a result of there being not enough staff on duty at any one time.
Reply from Sherri Sargent, Manager at Barchester Llys-y-TywysogWe are sorry you feel this way about the time your loved one spent with us at Llys-Y-Tywysog, I would like to reassure you that the staffing ratio here at Llys-Y-Tywysog is above industry standards and is monitored by our regulator and recently by Swansea Social services. Please see our latest CIW inspection report for our regulators finding on an unannounced visit. Our regulators recorded, ‘People and their relatives were enthusiastic about all aspects of the home and how this positively impacted on their well-being. The home is managed by a professional, experienced and enthusiastic manager who has instigated a culture whereby people are placed at the heart of the service. Each person’s care and support is closely monitored and care workers have positive, professional relationships with people.’ Many families and residents have had very positive experiences working together with us. We do hope you will consider us in the future.

My grandfather has been a resident in Llys-y-Twysog for over a year now, and his care has been second to none. All the staff are helpful and caring. During the time of this pandemic, the support that my grandfather has been getting is phenomenal. The lockdown has affected his dementia quite badly, but
throughout, they have been patient, supportive and compassionate. The introduction of the video calls really helped our family feel closer during this awful time, and now we look forward to the once a week visit, and we look forward to being able to see him more. Thank you to all the staff at Llys-y-Twysog for your work daily and especially during this stressful time, knowing that he is safe and cared for puts all of our minds at rest.
Reply from Sherri Sargent, Manager at Barchester Llys-y-TywysogThank you for your review, it is so good to know you feel that your grandfather is safe and cared for during this challenging time. We look forward to seeing you on your next visit.

My Mum has been in the residential floor of Llys y Tywysog for a year now, 50% of the time during the COVID-19 pandemic and the level of care has been excellent for the whole year but particularly since the beginning of 2020. The staff have stepped up and gone above and beyond for the residents, during
a very difficult time. Their duty of care has been excellent, during what has been and still is a very scary time. So, thank you very much for all you do and probably don’t always get recognised for.

The care at Llys-y-Tywysog is second to none. Both my mum and dad have been cared for here. The environment is welcoming, friendly and truly person-centred in care delivery. The care, skill and regard displayed by all staff to residents are outstanding and the reason why this home is a real community
for residents. My parents were expertly cared for and treated with the utmost dignity. I can't thank or praise the staff highly enough. A superb care home.
Reply from Sherri Sargent, Manager at Barchester Llys-y-TywysogThank you so much for such a positive review. The team work hard to provide person-centred care for all of the people we are privileged to support. Thank you again of the recognition.

My mother was a resident until she passed in September 2019. The care she received right up to the end was 2nd to none. The compassion they showed me and my family was outstanding. So much so that my dad is now a resident. He has Parkinson's and was in hospital for 3 months after a fall. He chose to
come to Llys-y-Tywysog because he knew the staff and the level of care. They have gone over and above to keep us in contact with our loved ones during these difficult times with the coronavirus. No words can express the gratitude I have for the staff.

Myself, and I believe everyone else, had a fantastic time at the panto Cinderella. It was a wonderful show for grown-ups as well as children. We look forward to our next pantomime, but I'm sorry to say it will be a while for the next one.

Hopefully, we can go to see some other show.

Reply from Sherri Sargent, Manager at Barchester Llys-y-TywysogHi Doreen, we will definitely be looking into some shows we can go to and see before the next Panto.

My father has been in the home since March (a big adjustment for all the family), he has received excellent treatment and care, with the management friendly and approachable.
As with anything relating to care, there has been a few issues with day to day problems, but when they have been pointed out
to the senior staff all the problems have been addressed.

I am very happy with Mum's home. The staff are wonderful with Mum and it's lovely for me to know she is well cared for when I can't be with her.

Even to the kitchen and maintenance, nothing is too much trouble for Mum to feel happy and content. The whole place feels like family.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.929)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.929) out of 10 for Barchester Llys-y-Tywysog is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 47 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 47 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.929 for Barchester Llys-y-Tywysog is calculated as follows: ( (522 Excellents x 5) + (38 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 561 Ratings = 4.929
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Llys-y-Tywysog is based on 47 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 54 registered maximum number of service users is 10.8, which has been reached with 47 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
