Very good. Came for respite after a hip replacement but have now decided to stay here and sell my flat. Excellent care which I so badly need, day and night. Very good standard of food, plenty of choices. The activities organised are very good, quizzes, music, games and physical activities. Various visits
organised, I have been on two in my first three months here.

There is room for improvement in some areas but overall facilities, care, kindness and well-being for residents are acceptable. All members of staff are professional in their approach and understanding of residents' needs. On occasion, they are understaffed and pushed to the limit but still provide
a good service. My main opinion for improvement would be more staff on each shift.

Llys-y-Tywysog has been the home of my mother-in-law since November last year, having moved from a council-run care home for rehabilitation following a stay in the hospital due to a fall, in the hope of her returning home. However, her mobility and risk of falls meant this could not happen. We chose
Llys-y-Tywysog because of its high reviews and being so close for us to visit. The transition has not been an easy one due to the changing needs of my mother-in-law, with the result that she is now bedbound and on a pureed diet. The staff have worked consistently hard to manage her difficulties in a very safe and clean environment. My mother-in-law is very nervous about being hoisted but the staff encourage her to leave her room when they feel it's beneficial, to join the dining room for lunch and the concerts that they have. The activities shown on the weekly programme are fantastic for many of the residents. The homes open visiting is extremely advantageous. We celebrated her 95th birthday in the upstairs lounge which was very special and those memories will be held for years to come.

A wonderful birthday celebration for a 100th birthday, a lovely buffet was provided and decorated the rooms were beautiful. Staff are always very accommodating and caring. Excellent care is given at all times.

Enjoyed a lovely buffet, lots of variety with something to suit every palate. The audience enjoyed the entertainment. The staff had made a big effort to decorate the dining room with balloons. The cakes were delicious. Appreciated the opportunity to use a lounge upstairs for chatting with family and
having tea and coffee afterwards. (Minor problem- The two teapots we were given had hot water on the side, one should have been marked tea).

After being cared for at home for multiple years, the difference seen in the resident since moving in is wonderful.

My grandmother has really thrived since moving to the home. She enjoys the activity programme and I love that I can see her and share the images from your social media with my young sons. It keeps the connection between that as we live to far to visit regularly.

Michelle Bowen

Job Title: General Manager Joined: 2001

Hello I am Michelle the General Manager of Lys-Y-Tywysog.  I have worked at Llys-Y-Tywysog for over 20 years, I really have worked in every department and I love every element of the job!  In 2019 I completed the QCF Level 5 in management to become Deputy Manager and was delighted to be appointed General Manager in 2021.


It is so rewarding working in this wonderful home and I am honoured to lead such a committed team.  I am sure we have one of the longest serving teams of any home, with a number of the team having worked at Llys for over 10 years and some over 20 years.  I am passionate about delivering excellent care to residents and enriching their lives every day with the focus on person centred care.  We also offer a fantastic life enrichment programme with fun and varied activities and events.


I am here to offer support to the residents, their families and the team.  For anyone considering care for themselves or for a loved one our doors are open for you to visit and meet the team.

Hi, I am Paula the Activities Coordinator, I have recently returned to Llys-Y-Tywysog. I worked at the home for over 5 years when my children were younger. My close connection with Llys remained as my father-in-law was a former resident, so I was still visiting regularly. I am delighted to be back working with the team.


I am creative and hope to bring new ideas for activities and events as well as still running firm favourites! My passion is about enhancing the lives of the residents from individual time through to big celebratory events. Sarah will continue to work as part of the activities team, working alongside me part-time whilst studying for her degree at Swansea University.

Hello I am Kath the administrator at Llys-Y-Tywysog.  I have worked at Llys-Y-Tywysog since 1992 and I am very proud of the success of Llys-Y-Tywysog and the excellent reputation held within the local community. 


I manage all the administration and finance within the home to ensure the home runs efficiently and I regularly speak to families.   I am proud to have achieved a Silver Award in the 2015 Wales Care Awards as well as my NVQ Level 4 in Management and Level 5 Diploma in Health and Social Care.
