Overall Experience

My father has received excellent care since entering Trafalgar Park on 30/11/2023. The carers are hugely patient, kind and friendly to residents and visiting family. All staff associated with my father's care are knowledgeable about his various conditions - advanced dementia, deaf, vision problems (cataracts) and his very troublesome catheter, which results in frequent complete catheter changes and recurrent UTIs. The introduction of two qualified nurses (since January 2024) has been a definite advantage, in that they are able to keep a close track of his catheter care and prevention of UTIs as far as possible. Excellent communication with relatives e.g. notification of a fall, or any medical interventions.

This was my first visit to see my friend who has just moved to Trafalgar Park Care Home. Overall experience was good, but would suggest some kind of colour coding on corridors as my friend gets lost going between rooms and toilet facilities. Every corridor looks the same.

As a visitor to friends, I have always received a warm welcome and had tea and cake with my friends. One had a birthday recently and was given a cake. The public rooms on the first floor are small and cosy, better than large and impersonal. My friends say the food is good and they are warm and comfortable. The staff are always very accommodating.

All the staff were warm and welcoming and really to answer any questions no task was too small. The care home is in a lovely place with a great atmosphere and my nana couldn't say a bad word, the food in particular highlighted and mentioned many times. It is wonderful to know that both my nana and grandad are in the care of such lovely staff.

On first visiting the welcome was very warm. I knew immediately this was the place for my cousin. All staff are very friendly and approachable. I would like to see her have more fresh air if possible. She is always in the one lounge constantly.

Reply from Julie Caygill, Hospital Liaison Team Administrator at Trafalgar Park Care Home

Thank you so much for your kind comments about Trafalgar Park and the lovely comments about our friendly staff. We will continue to offer regular visits outside both to the garden area of the Home, but also out in the minibus on visits, and hope that this encourages your cousin to enjoy some fresh air. Thank you again for your kind comments.

Introducing Thomas Roche
Home Manager at Aberpennar Court, Mountain Ash

What does ‘kindness’ mean to you?

“Making care person-centred and ensuring we do it properly; to the best standard and best of our ability.”

As a dedicated healthcare professional, Thomas has gained a wealth of experience in providing care and nursing support to elderly people, to enrich their lives. He is a knowledgeable and dedicated leader who is passionate about delivering the highest standards in care and quality of life for residents.

Thomas closely shares HC-One’s vision in aiming to provide the kindest care for each and every resident. He extends this caring approach to his colleagues and works closely with them to deliver care and support to residents in a way that they gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.

When asked about why he chose to work in the care sector, Thomas remarked:

“Everyone needs help sometimes. We've all been in periods of our lives where we need someone to help us, regardless of age. I feel privileged working in the care sector and giving people the help they need.”

Thomas talks about his proudest achievement when becoming a father and having to rebuild his house after severe flood damage on his own, finishing it three days before his son was born!

If you would like to find out more about Aberpennar Court, Thomas would be delighted to have an informal discussion with you to answer any questions and provide further information.
