Trafalgar Park Care Home, located in the village of Nelson, near Caerphilly, provides high quality personalised residential, nursing and dementia care to older people.

The purpose-built friendly and welcoming care home has a café, large landscaped garden and patio, pub, tea room, hair salon and quiet room. There is also a range of comfortable en-suite bedrooms, suitable to all tastes.

On top of this, Trafalgar Park boasts a selection of specially designed dining areas that provide the perfect space to share meals with fellow residents or welcome family and friends for those special occasions. The catering team prides itself on ensuring that each meal is an enjoyable experience for every resident and visitor, offering a varied and delicious menu.

Taking the time to learn about each resident’s individual hobbies and interests, the team create a varied and enriching lifestyle programme full of activities and events to get involved in, reflective of each person's hobbies and interests. Unable to comment on value for money as we do not finance the fees involved. We have always been welcomed by the staff in a polite, courteous and friendly manner. Our family member appears to be happy and secure in her new surroundings. The home itself is modern, clean and has a bright, vibrant atmosphere.

The staff are very, very welcoming and very helpful. So pleasant, very clean, a lovely room for residents to sleep in - very bright, airy and pleasant. The staff treat the residents as their families. Lovely, clean dining room - better than some bed and breakfast places I have been to. Every room, dining,
reception, bedrooms are really lovely. I have no worries at all about my sister-in-law being cared for because the love just shone through. God bless all the staff and thank you.

The carers looked clean and tidy in their uniforms. They were very polite, professional and friendly to me as a visitor. The carers had a very nice, friendly mannerism with the residents. My father is a new resident at the home and has settled in very well. I am sure that is down to the carers. He says
he is happy there, is joining in the activities and enjoying the food. All in all, a thumbs up.

My father has recently moved to this care home and he settled in very well from the start. He's happy and participates in activities and enjoys them, especially singing. I've always found management friendly, approachable and understanding. The staff are welcoming and very friendly. His room is spotless,

Really happy with the staff and environment. Lovely, cosy, friendly atmosphere and the staff have done everything they can to help my dad settle into his new environment. Such a relief to know he is now in a safe environment and his needs are being met.

I feel let down by how little has been done in the home towards Christmas. Other homes in HC1 have taken Christmas photos for families - simple but beautiful. Since the beginning of the first lockdown, I feel very little has been done to help the families cope. Even simple newsletters would have been
something.

We would like to extend our sincere apologies to all our families for the delay in sending out our newsletter and photographs over the Christmas period. Whilst we were able to share our photographs in November, sadly Covid did have an impact on our home in the month of December and this unfortunately caused a delay in sending out our usual updates and communications to our families. We anticipate that this week we will be sending out our photographs and Newsletter for the month of January. I made the best decision I could have made, putting Mum in Trafalgar Park. Since being there, Mum has felt very much at home, has all her care needs met and has built lovely relationships with the care staff. My mum is a very sociable person and the staff bring the best out of her. Mum loves living
there which is a great comfort to me. A special mention to one member of staff, in particular, who has a fabulous relationship with Mum.

From the moment my mum walked through the door, she was surrounded by emotional warmth and love. The carers who work at Trafalgar park are on another level. They responded to my mum's gentle and loving nature, reassuring her she was safe, happy and loved. Having had a very different experience from
another “care” home, Trafalgar Park staff blew me away with their genuine smiles and massive hearts. To see my mum content, included and welcomed has now let me breathe properly for the first time in a year, as I know she is having all her needs met with kindness. As a family, we are truly grateful.

My home is a treat to live in. Through all of Covid virus the staff (all of them) here kept us very safe, and have done their best to keep us entertained because of the lockdown. I believe that HC-One has a lot to be proud of if all of their homes is run like mine. Well done Trafalgar Park.

My sister went into Trafalgar Park after losing her husband and having spent time in hospital herself. I was so worried that she would not settle but it became her home and she called it home, which is the biggest compliment. The home is lovely, clean and comfortable but their biggest asset is the staff,
the carers are amazing. Everyone goes above and beyond and they really care. The last few days, before she passed, were hard but made bearable by the gentle care everyone gave to her (and to me). I will never forget that or be able to thank them enough.

My Father went into Trafalgar park Nelson in July 2020 and much to my amazement he settled in really well which was down to the Manager and the wonderful staff they have working there. The care that he was given to my father was up and beyond what we were expecting, nothing was ever to much trouble
and made my fathers stay there like he had a new extended family and they made sure it felt like home from home for him. Sadly we lost my dad in December but due to pandemic restrictions visits were limited but again the staff and management were unbelievable compassionate and made sure my dad was never on his own as we would have loved to have been with him at the time of passing but we had to consider other families have loved ones that the staff have to protect but we were allowed two compassionate visits with full PPE which we were really grateful for. I know that the last months of my dad's life was filled with lots of love and the best care we could ever have wanted for him.

This residential home is excellent in every way. My aunt (the resident) said that it is like being in a hotel! The staff are always courteous and kind, even in the most difficult circumstances. I am very grateful for the professional and caring way they have coped throughout the coronavirus pandemic.
I wish that the government would recognise this. I thoroughly recommend this home.

Visited mum in the garden today. Carers so helpful and loving to mum and us her family. COVID-19 has obviously impacted highly on our visits to mum. But the staff are always helpful when we ring mum (daily) and freely answer our worries/concerns. We all agree mum is happy and well.
