My friend has only been at the home since just before the pandemic, and I live about 40-minutes away, so I have only been about half a dozen times. Each time Staff have been friendly and helpful, but of late have sometimes seemed very busy because of staff shortages. My friend's room is pleasant and clean, and she has no complaints about the food, staff or anything else. She has become confused and wonders why she is there but has nothing negative to say about the home. My options are from my own experience of my friend's experience.

The home is extremely welcoming, the staff are most accommodating in all aspects. The lady I visit speaks very highly of both the staff and the facilities and is very happy and contented here. Every visit here is extremely pleasurable.

Unable to comment on value for money as we do not finance the fees involved. We have always been welcomed by the staff in a polite, courteous and friendly manner. Our family member appears to be happy and secure in her new surroundings. The home itself is modern, clean and has a bright, vibrant atmosphere.

The staff are very, very welcoming and very helpful. So pleasant, very clean, a lovely room for residents to sleep in - very bright, airy and pleasant. The staff treat the residents as their families. Lovely, clean dining room - better than some bed and breakfast places I have been to. Every room, dining, reception, bedrooms are really lovely. I have no worries at all about my sister-in-law being cared for because the love just shone through. God bless all the staff and thank you.

The carers looked clean and tidy in their uniforms. They were very polite, professional and friendly to me as a visitor. The carers had a very nice, friendly mannerism with the residents. My father is a new resident at the home and has settled in very well. I am sure that is down to the carers. He says he is happy there, is joining in the activities and enjoying the food. All in all, a thumbs up.

My father has recently moved to this care home and he settled in very well from the start. He's happy and participates in activities and enjoys them, especially singing. I've always found management friendly, approachable and understanding. The staff are welcoming and very friendly. His room is spotless, comfortable and homely.

This is easy to complete in that the team at Trafalgar Park consistently provide a care home that demonstrates the following - they are faultless when it comes to residents and visitors. They encourage dignity and respect. Any concerns will be clearly identified by the appropriate carer. The team, in my view, carry out more than a service. You feel welcome. First-class.

I feel let down by how little has been done in the home towards Christmas. Other homes in HC1 have taken Christmas photos for families - simple but beautiful. Since the beginning of the first lockdown, I feel very little has been done to help the families cope. Even simple newsletters would have been something.

Reply from Julie Caygill, Hospital Liaison Team Administrator at Trafalgar Park Care Home

We would like to extend our sincere apologies to all our families for the delay in sending out our newsletter and photographs over the Christmas period. Whilst we were able to share our photographs in November, sadly Covid did have an impact on our home in the month of December and this...

I made the best decision I could have made, putting Mum in Trafalgar Park. Since being there, Mum has felt very much at home, has all her care needs met and has built lovely relationships with the care staff. My mum is a very sociable person and the staff bring the best out of her. Mum loves living there which is a great comfort to me. A special mention to one member of staff, in particular, who has a fabulous relationship with Mum.

From the moment my mum walked through the door, she was surrounded by emotional warmth and love. The carers who work at Trafalgar park are on another level. They responded to my mum's gentle and loving nature, reassuring her she was safe, happy and loved. Having had a very different experience from another “care” home, Trafalgar Park staff blew me away with their genuine smiles and massive hearts. To see my mum content, included and welcomed has now let me breathe properly for the first time in a year, as I know she is having all her needs met with kindness. As a family, we are truly grateful.

My home is a treat to live in. Through all of Covid virus the staff (all of them) here kept us very safe, and have done their best to keep us entertained because of the lockdown. I believe that HC-One has a lot to be proud of if all of their homes is run like mine. Well done Trafalgar Park.

My sister went into Trafalgar Park after losing her husband and having spent time in hospital herself. I was so worried that she would not settle but it became her home and she called it home, which is the biggest compliment. The home is lovely, clean and comfortable but their biggest asset is the staff, the carers are amazing. Everyone goes above and beyond and they really care. The last few days, before she passed, were hard but made bearable by the gentle care everyone gave to her (and to me). I will never forget that or be able to thank them enough.

Introducing Thomas Roche
Home Manager at Aberpennar Court, Mountain Ash

What does ‘kindness’ mean to you?

“Making care person-centred and ensuring we do it properly; to the best standard and best of our ability.”

As a dedicated healthcare professional, Thomas has gained a wealth of experience in providing care and nursing support to elderly people, to enrich their lives. He is a knowledgeable and dedicated leader who is passionate about delivering the highest standards in care and quality of life for residents.

Thomas closely shares HC-One’s vision in aiming to provide the kindest care for each and every resident. He extends this caring approach to his colleagues and works closely with them to deliver care and support to residents in a way that they gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.

When asked about why he chose to work in the care sector, Thomas remarked:

“Everyone needs help sometimes. We've all been in periods of our lives where we need someone to help us, regardless of age. I feel privileged working in the care sector and giving people the help they need.”

Thomas talks about his proudest achievement when becoming a father and having to rebuild his house after severe flood damage on his own, finishing it three days before his son was born!

If you would like to find out more about Aberpennar Court, Thomas would be delighted to have an informal discussion with you to answer any questions and provide further information.
