Avoid.
Firstly let me note that the home does have some excellent staff who do genuinely care for the residents.
However, they make extensive use of agency staff and seem unwilling or unable to provide the correct direction for them. For approximately 4 of the last 5 months (as of Mar 22) they have
been in 'outbreak' situations meaning that only essential visits are allowed. In our case, grandchildren have not been seen since August. Residents are unable to leave the premises during these outbreaks either.
Whilst every care home has of course experienced Covid outbreaks, the Claremont is clearly in a category of their own and management does not appear to care. At no point during any of the outbreaks has a member of management bothered to speak to family members or even sent out an email. Only Admin staff are on the frontline.
My second complaint is regarding washing, or more particularly that they seem unable to match washed clothes with the correct resident. Clothes just go missing and the other residents' clothes just appear in the wrong rooms on a frequent and regular basis, even though in our case, everything was labelled. Whilst top and bottoms might be acceptable (often residents don't remember themselves whether they own something or not), underwear sadly also goes awry. Whilst in our case, pads were worn, I can imagine for other residents it is less appealing...
In summary, if you want to ensure that other family members can visit your loved one and that they are in a home where the management actually care about the residents, I'd strongly suggest looking elsewhere.
It might cost a little bit more, but it is definitely worth it.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback about Claremont Care Home. All feedback is valuable and allows us to review the process to ensure we provide the highest standards of care. Due to the ongoing pandemic social care is facing a staffing crisis and unfortunately at times we have had to use agency staff in the home. We have however, block booked staff so that we have regular agency staff who know our home and our residents to provide continuity of care and support. Our staff continue to follow Government guidance in relation to Covid-19 and unfortunately, we are seeing Covid cases on the rise, which has an impact on the care home sector. The Home Manager is in contact with Public Health daily and the decision to close the home during outbreak is ultimately theirs. Following updates from Public Health the Home Manager updates relatives via email, so you have the most up to date information on the home at any given time. I am sorry that you have had issues with our laundry service and had this been brought to my attention it would have been rectified straight away. We do have a laundry system in place that normally works well, but I will review this again with the residents and family within the home.

I have found all the staff to be extremely helpful during the whole process of my father being admitted and throughout his first six months in residence.
It was difficult to choose a home without visiting it (due to Covid) but staff from the first call onwards were great. My father has settled well,
has regained the weight he lost in hospital (food is great) and seems to be happy and settled. Thank you for your continuing care both to my dad and to my mother who found the whole process overwhelming at first.

All the staff have been excellent looking after my mother during, and now as we hopefully come out of, Covid restrictions. They have accommodated us with calls and video calls and have given me and my family the assurance my mum is being very well cared for during this difficult and frustrating time
of her life. She was also a very independent woman, strong and active, so I can imagine she will keep everyone on their toes!

My cousin has now been resident in Claremont for 3 years and I have had no complaints about her care. The staff are always very caring and supportive, she is happy in her environment. I am kept very well up to date with everything relating to her health and wellbeing especially during the recent lockdowns.

Excellent care home. The staff know my mum really well, and she has developed a strong bond and attachment to them. All care plans are tailored to individual needs and with the client in mind. Staff are fantastic. Mum didn't come into Claremont Care Home until June and we have been very pleased with her progress with her condition.

I have not responded to some categories as they are not pertinent. I have always been happy with the care my wife received. I think the staff and management in Arran Ward are very good. The action of the staff and management in the home is a reflection as to why they have remained Covid-free. Hopefully

Job Title: Home Manager

“For me, kind care is always being respectful and ensuring that Residents maintain their dignity throughout their care journey.”


As a Registered Nurse, Catherine has gained a wealth of experience in providing care and nursing support to elderly people, to enrich their lives. She is a knowledgeable and dedicated leader who is passionate about delivering the highest standards in care and quality of life for Residents.


Catherine closely shares HC-One’s vision in aiming to provide the kindest care for each and every Resident. She extends this caring approach to her Colleagues and works closely with them to deliver care and support to Residents in a way that they gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.


She also works hard to arrange events and activities with nearby schools and clubs and is always keen to include the local community in life at Claremont.


When asked what she enjoys most about her role, Catherine remarked:


“There’s nothing more rewarding than making a difference to the lives of Residents and their loved ones.”


Outside of work, Catherine likes to wind down with a good book, she also enjoys cycling and spending with her three beautiful grandchildren.
