My mother was admitted with stage four cancer, dementia and diabetes. As a family we knew she did not have much good days left ahead of her. However the staff - to a man - looked after both my mother and father - who visited every day, with love and dignity. As a family we are truly grateful for everything you dad to make mum's final days comfortable and enjoyable as they could be.
Thank you for your kind review, I'll pass this onto the staff
Our father passed away 2 weeks ago, having spent the last 5 years as a resident of Fordmill, I very much doubt if we would have had him with us that long, had it not been for the wonderful care provided by the staff and management. They literally became his second family with their compassion, skilled work and great personalities. He was always very contented when we visited, and never once told us that he was unhappy with his situation, or any member of the team. Barchester are truly fortunate to have a care home like this within their organisation.
Sincere condolences to you and the family at this time. Thank you for your review. We value all feedback as this helps us to improve our service where required. Thank you also for your positive comments regarding our home and team, who work hard to deliver high standards of quality care at all times. I will pass on your feedback to the team.
We were a family with no experience of a Care Home. From the moment we were met in the foyer in March 2024, with our mum, the staff have gone above and beyond to make her and the residents happy and well cared for. From Management to catering and cleaning, not forgetting the professional nurses, they are unsung heroes. The entertainment team, enjoy themselves too with entertainment which is both relevant and fun. Mum loved the church services and visits from schools, nursery schools, dancers etc. Really big thanks.

Such special memories created within the home not just a care home but an actual home to residents.
Lovely setting.

My wife is unable to walk or stand (advanced MS) so "activities" are not relevant. She is a bit 'fussy' about food and is gluten intolerant. However, the home went to great lengths to provide her with a choice at each meal. This was a 3 week respite care that was mostly paid for by my local council, cannot comment on value for money.
Thank you for your kind review, look forward to taking care of your wife again in May.
Mum had a lovely warm, clean room with her own TV. Mum has said that the staff were brilliant.

Probably the best old folks home I have ever seen, the staff are absolutely lovely, they cannot do enough from my father. And the food is amazing. And the manager of the old folks home is a star. Highly rated. Honestly, cannot pick one bad thing about it. Only one word describes this place, amazing.
Thank you for your lovely review Frank, I'll pass your feedback onto the staff.
The whole home has a fantastic atmosphere with daily activities, ensuring everyone is included and entertained.
You couldn't wish for a better care home for your relative.

This is a wonderful home and I could thoroughly recommend it.

The staff at Barchester Fordmill Care Home are very helpful and friendly. Our mother receives excellent care and is very happy!
Thank you for your kind review, Paul, see you next year.
The care that our mum has received at Barchester Fordmill Care Home has been outstanding! She loves all the varied activities and companionship of the other residents. The care staff are excellent and so friendly. This definitely is a five-star facility!
Thank you for your kind review Heather. Looking forward to seeing you again next year.
Mum had plenty of activities and good company during her stay. Staff were very attentive to Mum. Care home was suitable for Mum's needs. She knew some of the residents which made it more enjoyable. Easy for visitors to come and go. I think she enjoyed her food as well.
Thank you for your kind review, Pamela, I'll pass this on to the staff.
The entertainment on this occasion and generally, was first-class. Birthday cake tasted excellent.
Thank you for your kind review Alison. I'm glad you enjoyed the birthday celebrations.
I cannot rate Fordmill highly enough. Mum was cared for with compassion and dignity from day one. The care home is immaculately clean, the staff helpful and friendly and the food tasty and plentiful. The Entertainment Coordinators have a wealth of events and activities to keep the residents busy, there's never a dull day at Fordmill! Ultimately, we had peace of mind. Mum had the highest standard of care and felt loved by everyone around her. Thank you all.
Thank you for your lovely review, Helen, please come back and see us for coffee and cake sometime.
I couldn't be more happy with the staff and facilities at this care home. They allowed my mother to enjoy her time and keep her dignity until she sadly passed away this month. Mum lived at the care home for just over two years. We knew she was safe and well looked after at all times. Excellent.
Thank you for your kind review. I'll pass your thanks on to the staff.
Thank you for bringing out the best in my granny again.

I cannot praise staff highly enough. From the time my mother entered Barchester Fordmill Care Home until her death, they were attentive, caring and so good to her. She enjoyed her time there mixing with everyone but still with her own room for privacy when she wanted. I felt safe in my mind that she was getting the care, love and attention she needed.

Food could rival any hotels around Montrose.
Activities offered to the residents were well chosen by a competent activities organiser.
Thank you for your kind review, Pamela. I will pass your thanks on to my team.
After a fall at home which necessitated a hospital stay and then some time in a rehabilitation unit, my Mum moved into Fordmill six months ago. She was apprehensive and anxious about the move but with the excellent care and support of the lovely manager and other staff, she soon settled in and now feels at home there. Fordmill is set in a large quiet garden and everywhere is spotlessly clean and well maintained, laundry has a super quick turnaround, food is plentiful and varied and visitors are always made to feel welcome. The abundance of entertainment and activities available are imaginative and very well organised by enthusiastic staff who gently encourage residents to join in with no pressure to do so. I feel that my Mum is treated with respect and dignity and well looked after by all the friendly, helpful staff and have no hesitation in recommending Fordmill for respite or long-term care. We are so lucky to have such an excellent nursing home in Montrose.
Thank you for your lovely review, I'll be sure to pass this feedback onto the staff.
My husband and I were visiting my mum from the USA. Each time we visit we are always delighted with the care my mum receives. Her individual needs are met but Barchester Fordmill Care Home goes far beyond that. The quality and variety of food is exceptional and is made with pride and obvious care, beginning with the table settings being at a standard to behold the feast that is about to arrive. The daily activities are organised with thoughtful ideas on how best to encourage our family members to use their skills while having fun. When we visited daily there was a lot of activity, laughter and a very family-minded atmosphere between the residents and amazing staff. We were made to feel very welcome and there was always a nice selection of refreshments for us to enjoy. A really superb facility that gives us great peace of mind that our mum has a loving, caring place she calls home. Thank you Fordmill staff, you are a blessing to us all.

Meet the Team (11)

Welcome to Fordmill Care Home; my name is Aileen, and I am the General Manager here.
I have previously worked in hospitals in Gloucester and Epping, specialising in neurology and breast cancer. Upon return from the Middle East in 1995, I commenced my career in the care sector. I moved back to Scotland in 2000 to purchase my own care home, which I managed with my mother. When my family came along, I decided to sell the home and came to work part-time at Fordmill in 2004.
My aim in the home is to ensure residents are happy with the care being provided by the team, and I work closely with the staff to ensure the highest standards are achieved. This is reflected in our Care Inspectorate grades and high recommendations on carehome.co.uk.

I’m Julia and I have been working at Fordmill since December 2016. I really enjoy art and studied Graphic Design & Illustration in Dundee. I love being with people and using my skills to improve their quality of life and bring a smile to their faces through crafts, games and all sorts of other activities.
I plan out the activities, either for groups or individuals, according to specific needs and interests. It’s a real joy to get to know residents and their loved ones and I’m grateful to Barchester for giving me the opportunity to work with them and bring some sunshine into the residents’ lives.
I have been a finalist in the National Care Awards once and twice in the Barchester Care Awards
