This was the first time we had used respite care. Putting it mildly my husband was very apprehensive and very reluctant. I was extremely anxious. From the start, everyone was very reassuring and professional but friendly and helpful. The surroundings were so comfortable and homely, were more like a hotel than a residential home. I left my husband fully confident he would get excellent care. This proved so right. After his week at Fordmill, he came home full of praise for all the staff. Very positive about his experience there, with no negative comments at all and the fact he told the family he would go back says it all!
Thank you for that kind review Jessie. Am so glad you felt reassured and that your husband had a pleasant stay.
Management and staff were all so helpful and caring. We couldn't have asked for a better care home.
We can't stress enough how well they were looked after. We could go away and know they were in such kind, caring and helpful hands.
Please accept our condolences to you and the family at this time. Thank you for your review. We value all feedback as this helps us to improve our service where required. Thank you also for your positive comments regarding our home and team who work hard to deliver high standards of quality care at all times. I will pass on your feedback to the team.
My mum moved into the care home in May 2024 following a fall in her flat and a hospital admission. This was a really difficult and stressful time for Mum and all the family. Mum's mental health had not been good in the twenty-plus years following my dad's death and to say she was antisocial would be an understatement. She had isolated herself from her whole community and was leading a pretty miserable existence despite best efforts from those left in her life. We were very apprehensive about how she would cope in a care home. To be honest, if she wasn't in Barchester Fordmill Care Home, I'm not convinced she would have coped. The staff have been amazing right from the top, general manager, nursing and care staff, catering, maintenance, activity team and hairdresser! All have been so patient, kind and consistent in their approach. Mum is now enjoying care home life and taking part in all kinds of activities that I did not dream of. The creativity and kindness of the whole team has been outstanding. Thank you.
Thank you for this lovely review, Julie, I'm so happy Mum has settled into life at Fordmill.
My father settled very well at Barchester Fordmill Care Home. I think the 'hotel-like', plush surroundings helped. On one occasion, they seemed to be short-staffed however this was a 'one-off'. He seemed to enjoy the activities and chose to take part. The staff were very kind and helpful and there were plenty of them. The fact that it's a 'nursing' home, not a 'care' home, gave us peace of mind. I would definitely recommend.
Thank you for your kind review and I'll pass this on to the staff.
The staff are very friendly and jolly, everyone is made to feel welcome. The care home is one of the best I have visited. (I have entertained at all the care homes in Stonehaven and although they are good, Barchester Fordmill Care Home is really good.) My sister enjoyed her stay and was sorry to move back home.
Thank you very much for the kind review, Ronald, your sister was a joy to care for.
Fordmill is a wonderful care home with the kindest, most caring staff. My dad is comfortable, happy and safe at Fordmill. I would most definitely recommend Formill to any family who may be considering finding a care home place for their relatives.
Thank you for your kind review, Caryn, Dad is a joy to care for.
My mum has been in Fordmill Care Home for two weeks respite a few times now. When she needs looking after, apart from me, Fordmill is the next best thing. I know she is well looked after. Most of the staff are very kind and caring. I would have no hesitation in recommending them if you need help in looking after your loved one. Hope this helps someone.
Thank you for your kind feedback. Looking forward to seeing Mum again soon.
Respite basis - cannot fault Barchester Fordmill Care Home at all. All the staff took excellent care of my mum catering to her needs, encouraging and worked with her to improve her mobility issues after an illness to enable her to return home.

Fordmill is a wonderful home. The staff are so caring towards the residents. My dad was extremely well looked after and treated with dignity and respect. The decor is so beautiful, making the place feel so homely and there were always smiles on everyone's face when I was visiting my dad. The daily entertainment and events at Fordmill are exceptional for residents, and visitors who regularly join in too! I would highly recommend Fordmill as a home for anyone who is considering it here as a home for their loved one.

Our mum moved into Fordmill in October. She was known to be difficult but all of the staff have been accommodating and saw to Mum's needs at all times. She was always treated with care and compassion and, whilst she was at the end of life, all staff treated us all with care and compassion and ensured we were always offered food and drinks. Exceptional.
Thank you for your kind review, I will pass this onto the staff.
The activities and entertainment that takes place every day are wonderful and residents are encouraged to get involved.
One of the residents that I visit was very timid and since she entered the home, she has gained a lot of confidence which is a direct result of staff at the home empowering her and giving her encouragement.
Meals are fantastic and cups of tea are endless during the day.
It is more like a hotel, than a care home.
I really cannot fault Fordmill in any way. Each and every member of staff deserves credit for the happiness they bring to my friends and also the peace of mind that I have, knowing that they are safe and well looked after.

If you or a family member need long-term care, Fordmill is the place to be. All staff are friendly and exceptional at what they do, whether it's housekeeping staff or nursing staff or the maintenance team. My mum is a resident here and is well looked after. She has dementia but feels safe and thinks of Fordmill as her home. All staff know my mum's name and speak to her like she is a family member. The manager cares for her residents and staff and is regularly seen out and about in the home. She is also approachable and easy to speak to if there is a concern. The activities team are full of enthusiasm and bright ideas. They tailor activities to the resident's needs. I am sure there is no other care home with activities and events as varied as Fordmill. My mum recently had a small surgical procedure and the nursing staff were very caring with her. I have no worries about leaving Mum in the care of Fordmill and it's an exceptional team.
Thank you for that lovely review. I will pass this onto staff
I visit twice weekly and always experience very kind, warm, and welcoming staff. The rooms and public areas are always clean. A lovely area in the foyer to enjoy coffee and cake. A special mention to the entertainment team who work tirelessly with new ideas for all the residents.

Staff are always polite and friendly.
Meals and snacks are lovely with great variety and made on the premises.
Visitors are made to feel welcome and can get a cuppy with homemade baking anytime.
Thank you for your kind review, I'll pass that onto the staff
There is nowhere in the world that I would want my loved one to be cared for. the home and gardens are exceptional. The staff are very friendly. I trust completely that my 94-year-old uncle is given the best of care and treated with dignity. The Head of the Unit is always willing to discuss any problem and find a solution. The Events Coordinator is such an amazing person. Her dedication to the residents is unbelievable. Her imagination in thinking up new ways to make the residents smile is such a rare quality. She deserves all the accolades that should come her way. They have the perfect manager, making sure that every resident is looked after in the most caring way. While visiting I have seen her interact with the residents in the most caring way. I spread the word about how wonderful a place Fordmill is where everyone is treated with the utmost dignity.
Thank you for your lovely review, it is very much appreciated and I'll be sure to pass this onto the staff.
My mum has been in Fordmill for two years and I have always found the place clean and well managed with excellent staff. I was so pleased for my mum to be in such a nice place and she is happy which is most important to me.
Thank you for your kind review and I will pass your thanks on to the team.
Residents are extremely well looked after and provided for. Food and snacks tasty and visitors always offered a cup of tea/coffee. Staff are cheerful, friendly and welcoming. Lots of excellent activities keeping smiles on faces all round. Visitors always welcome and greeted with a smile.
Family kept informed and included in all aspects of what’s going on.
The online page is full of happy, smiling residents having fun.
Thank you for your kind review, I'll pass your thanks onto the team.
I am not able to visit often as I live in Edinburgh, but when I do everyone is very helpful. I keep up to date with every event on FB & enjoy seeing all the photos. My Mother in Law is very happy living in the home & as a family we appreciate all you do.
Thank you for your kind review, I'll pass this onto staff.
Fordmill is a wonderful, caring environment. All the staff work very hard to ensure your loved one is well cared for and happy. My mum has settled in well, I know I don't have to worry about her because she is very well looked after 24 hours a day. I can't recommend Fordmill highly enough.
Thank you for your kind review it is very much appreciated. I will pass this onto the staff

Meet the Team (11)

Welcome to Fordmill Care Home; my name is Aileen, and I am the General Manager here.
I have previously worked in hospitals in Gloucester and Epping, specialising in neurology and breast cancer. Upon return from the Middle East in 1995, I commenced my career in the care sector. I moved back to Scotland in 2000 to purchase my own care home, which I managed with my mother. When my family came along, I decided to sell the home and came to work part-time at Fordmill in 2004.
My aim in the home is to ensure residents are happy with the care being provided by the team, and I work closely with the staff to ensure the highest standards are achieved. This is reflected in our Care Inspectorate grades and high recommendations on carehome.co.uk.

I’m Julia and I have been working at Fordmill since December 2016. I really enjoy art and studied Graphic Design & Illustration in Dundee. I love being with people and using my skills to improve their quality of life and bring a smile to their faces through crafts, games and all sorts of other activities.
I plan out the activities, either for groups or individuals, according to specific needs and interests. It’s a real joy to get to know residents and their loved ones and I’m grateful to Barchester for giving me the opportunity to work with them and bring some sunshine into the residents’ lives.
I have been a finalist in the National Care Awards once and twice in the Barchester Care Awards
