We are delighted with the excellent facilities and staff. After a warm reception for our initial visit, we have been so impressed with the speed and efficiency of the seamless transition from the lady's own home to this five-star care home, where she is extremely happy. A big thank you to all those
who contribute to this great service. I highly recommend it and would put my own name down to stay here!

We were very unsure about whether our father was ready to go into a care home, but having placed him at Sandfields, we realise it was the best decision. His health, both physically and mentally, has improved since being there for the last three months. He is happy and never gets bored, as he loves all
the activities that are laid on, and he gets to socialise regularly. The stress of having to go shopping, cook his meals, do washing, etc is gone enabling him to enjoy life. All the staff at Sandfields are friendly and always happy. No regrets on his and our side.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My mother moved to Sandfields in February 2023 from another care home in Cheltenham, where they had been awarded a CQC outstanding award. Her care there (and mine as a relative) at this home was much less than outstanding. Having never been through a care home selection process, I thought a CQC outstanding
level denoted a greater level of care, but it appears not.
I'm so pleased with how well Mum has settled in, the staff are caring and compassionate, and I feel Mum's needs are fully met. Mum has dementia, is immobile and struggles to communicate her needs, but the staff understand and work with her to reassure her and ensure her comfort.
I visit Mum sometimes daily. Unlike the previous care setting, I'm made to feel very welcome and part of the family at Sandfields. This matters very much to me as I had looked after Mum at home for a long time prior to her needing a care home setting.
In my opinion, I feel that Sandfields deserves a CQC outstanding!

The team at Sandfields work hard to create a safe and comfortable home for residents. Key staff have been in post for years, creating a warm and caring environment. Communication with relatives is good, and we always enjoy our visits to Sandfields, including time spent with Mum in the excellent care,
or when the weather is good, in the lovely garden.

My relative has lived at Sandfields now for seven months. Her physical health continues to be well, and her mental health has gotten better; she is witty, humours the staff, has established relationships with the carers and trusts and allows them to take her on walks, activities and showers regularly.
We receive regular feedback, and even at the first sign of a cold coming, we were notified and continued to be updated as it developed to a sore throat but reassured it was not Covid and her temperature was regularly taken. If we take Mum out and we've asked for warmer clothing, we have gone in and found her dressed suitably, and her coat, hat, scarf and gloves are all laid out beautifully for us to assist Mum to be ready and warm on a cold winter's day. We could not be happier as the quality of care continues not only for Mum, but the staff take care of us also - nothing is ever a bother. If only all care homes were as genuinely compassionate and thoughtful and constantly considerate.

My 90-year-old mother spent a few weeks here for respite after a fall. She loved it so much that she asked to stay permanently. Can't fault the staff - they are all lovely and caring. The meals are pretty good, and the service is first-class. Plenty of activities on a daily basis, and residents are
encouraged to socialise and interact. Lovely rooms, all kept well and clean.

I was extremely grateful that my sister-in-law was allowed to enter Sandfields within six hours of applying to the home. All the staff that I came in contact with during my sister-in-law's stay were extremely helpful, caring, polite and respectful, and nothing was too much trouble. My sister-in-law's
wife and myself found the facilities f the cafe/bar and garden were great areas for all of us to relax together. My sister-in-law was treated with dignity right up to the end.

It was very hard for us to have to move Mum into a care home after the loss of our dad. Sandfields is a very friendly environment. The members of staff are all professional and very helpful. Nothing is too much trouble, and they are always there to listen. The care staff understand Mum's dementia and
medical needs. Mum enjoys the activities and loves her room. I would highly recommend Sandfields.

My mother spent the last 26-months of her long life (nearly 101) at Sandfields. I was concerned about her going into care as she was very independent and also English wasn't her first language. However, a fall and broken hip left us forced us to get help. We tried live-in care, but this wasn't satisfactory
as she found the inevitable changeover of personnel very stressful, and she was always worried about household problems.
Sandfields were brilliant - we had a very sociable period before the first lockdown, Mum was exceedingly well looked after and felt very relaxed. The pandemic obviously caused problems, but the staff were excellent at keeping us informed of visiting possibilities, new regulations etc. And they pulled the stops out for her 100th birthday - despite the fact that she could only see us through the window, she had a wonderful, memorable day.
The staff looked after her really well throughout. At the end, we were able to visit freely and felt she had every care.

The Sandfields team are so reassuring and knowledgeable. We had to move Dad from another care facility and sorting all this was much easier with the admin and nursing team being so helpful in offering information so we could make the right choices. Dad was treated with the utmost respect and care. The
staff were interested in him, his life and all his accomplishments. As he was a palliative care resident, I was pleasantly surprised at how much support was shown to me and the family. The medical/nursing care was outstanding. Brilliant communication between staff and shifts. Regular checks were done, actions were taken, and I was kept up to date with all care and medical decisions. Food was excellent and tailor-made to suit Dad. His room was lovely and clean. When he passed, they had looked after both of us nonstop for 3-days, as I had wanted to be with him. I was shown real kindness. They looked after all the arrangements and advised me on the next steps. Highly recommend. Would use again.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.825)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.825) out of 10 for Sandfields is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 28 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.825 for Sandfields is calculated as follows: ( (299 Excellents x 5) + (19 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (4 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 332 Ratings = 4.825
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Sandfields is based on 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 90 registered maximum number of service users is 18, which has been reached with 27 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

I'm a qualified and experienced nurse – I've worked in hospitals and care homes for over twenty years.

I joined Care UK in 2014 and have worked my way up to clinical lead, deputy manager and now home manager.

No two days are ever the same here at Sandfields. Every resident is treated as an individual and according to their changing needs. My favourite part of the day is meeting with my team at the start of the day, receiving handovers from each unit and supporting colleagues to make decisions that will make a difference in the lives of the residents.

Outside of work, I'm very connected with my church and the local community. I also like to spend my free time going camping, sightseeing and connecting with friends and families all over the world via social media.
