Winchcombe Place in Newbury is a purpose-built care home offering high-quality residential care and respite care for older people, including those who are living with dementia.

Each en-suite bedroom has its own flat screen TV, phone and internet connections, and ground floor rooms offer direct access to the garden. Residents love the hair and beauty salon, café, cinema room and library and there are also regular activities in the vintage-themed lounge and activity room.

other privately arranged healthcare. Should you require an escort to hospital appointments, we may apply
an agreed hourly charge for this service.

My dad was recently in this home and overall he had good care. The staff on the whole were pleasant and caring some members of staff were truly exceptional. The food was good and we were made welcome all the time. The entertainment team put in lots of enthusiasm. The receptionists are also are a major
credit, going above and beyond their role However the care hone could sadly not meet my father s advancing dementia and this aspect was poorly managed and very stressful to us. We were not involved in any meetings and there was poor communication and updates regarding the management of my dads needs, culminating in a rush to find an alternative home. We were never warned that the home would not be able to meet the needs of challenging dementia. In my opinion this is a lovely home for the fairly abled or stable older person who can appreciate the activities, the cinema ,the outings etc but when advanced symptoms arise the home was not equipped ti manage .

I have been visiting a friend, who is resident in Winchcombe Place for about two months. The reception you receive on entering Winchcombe Place is excellent, helpful and friendly. The staff are all very polite. The building is always very clean and tidy. The building is layout very well with the excellent
workmanship. A excellent place to stay in your later years with good care and excellent staff.

My father in law moved in in February this year, and we were really warned about him adjusting to living somewhere new. All members of staff have been absolutely amazing, welcoming both him and the family to the home. He is now very much settled in, we no longer have any worries about him being there,
as we know how well he is being looked after.
I would highly recommend Winchcombe Place, it's an excellent care home.

Grandad has been in the last few months now and has settled so well - the highlight so far was celebrating his 95th birthday. The home made him a beautiful care and welcomed a lot of family members in the pink bar. After missing his 90th due to covid, this was really special for all of us.

Mum came for 4 weeks respite following a fall when she could not manage at home. It was a very stressful time but everyone was so welcoming and nothing was too much trouble to help her settle in. Mum is happier & calmers at Winchcombe Place. Housekeeping standards are very high which is important to
us. The reception staff always make us feel especially welcome. There is a lovely caring atmosphere.

My Mum has been in Winchcombe Place for a good many years. During that time I have not had any reason to complain about the support that the carers provide. They have very difficult roles and in my opinion, they provide the best they can for the residents at different levels. I would not hesitate to

The staff at Winchcombe Place were most supportive of both my wife and myself. They were friendly, patient and professional. Once as we walked along a hallway one of the carers approached us. As she past my wife raised her arm and embraced the young carer - that warmth was comforting to witness. My
wife avoided participating in group activities but on occasions the gentile encouragement from staff overcame her resistance. For the first two months of her stay I visited my wife from 11 am to 2 pm. We chatted in her room, had a coffee and pastry and then went to one of the smaller lounges and listened to R&R music on the CD player. My wife found the noise of dishes etc. in the dining room disturbing and to facilitate us the staff brought the meal to another small lounge that had a dining table. After those first two months it was suggested that my health would benefit if I reduced the frequency of my visits. I accepted this good advice and reduced my visits to four days per week. Sadly my wife passed away in her sleep. I am most grateful of all the support I received.

My husband, who has Alzheimer's, arrived at Winchcombe on Saturday for two weeks of respite care. It is now Monday evening. We were greeted at reception and taken to his room, which is large, light, airy and en suite. He has settled in immediately, the staff have been so supportive to him and me, they
are approachable, informative, friendly and professional. I am invited to eat with him when I am visiting at meal times. The coffee bar has been a hit, especially the home-made cakes and biscuits! He has enjoyed joining in with all the activities; Rememberance parade, singing and yoga. As someone who has been resistant to joining in, seeing him happy, relaxed and content is wonderful. He is looking forward to visits from school children and crafts in the next few days. The lounge areas are lovely for a quiet snooze when needed. This beginning has made me feel safe to leave him without feeling so guilty. My thanks to all the team.

My mother is a resident of 7 years, living with dementia and the after effects of a stroke. The decor and maintenance is looking good, presenting a lovely feeling of comfort and calm. The most important aspect, for myself, is one of trust. Trust that the personal care, safety, dignity and medical care
is consistently of a high standard and the relationship of the staff and management team allows me to maintain my bond as a son. Underlying that trust are the most important humans in the home, the staff. Their attitude and behaviour is what makes the environment for the personal needs of my mum (everyone is different with different levels of social comfort, engagement and needs). The hospitality team must be specially mentioned as the vibrancy and energy around the home is their creation which is felt as you enter the building. The administrative group are great and long may the managment team train, develop, respect, and grow everyone who is employed on this home's journey to excellence.

I would like to thank all staff for the wonderful afternoon they gave my Mum and Aunt yesterday. It was absolutely amazing to see them reunited after so long apart. Your planning, care, lunch and entertainment went above and beyond all exceptions, giving us an afternoon filled with joy, laughter, music

My mother has been very happy at Winchcombe Care Home for nearly 4 years now. I can't thank the staff enough, from the management reception staff and those in the office; to the team leaders, carers, and cleaning staff for their kindness and keeping Mum on her feet in a loving family way (yes cross
words at times but with love!). I now wish to commend two staff members in particular who stayed with Mum when she had had a fall and hit her head. Over an hour wait for the ambulance! But both went above and beyond in keeping Mum awake and comfortable. I can continue the list of amazing staff who have since needed patience with Mum adjusting to being in bed and having personal care and regular repositioning to limit bed sores! A real team of amazing empathic individuals. Well done!

I have been extremely pleased with Winchcombe. My nan is increasingly happy and settled. The home is lovely - gorgeous gardens and we love the coffee shop. It gives such a sense of normality to sit with a cake, coffee and newspaper. My nan loves the activities, especially the animals. This morning she
had a relaxing 'namaste'. The staff are thoughtful, compassionate and kind. The home is well run - thank you. Exemplary, thank you.

Saw article in paper inviting locals to join in with activities, been joining in for several months. Know several staff and residents from my past. Best thing I've done in years. Join in with chair exercises and crafts, like animals that visit. Made very welcome. Consider staying when can't look after
myself. Good food and entertainment. Look forward to all the activities and company and speaking to all friendly staff. Don't like going home to empty house but do get a few visitors (family, neighbours friends and some with dogs.)

My husband has had two sessions of respite care while I go away and has been very well looked after. I have nothing but praise for the care he received and the staff were brilliant. We come weekly for the exercise class on Thursday, it is great.

Absolutely brilliant! Its clean, the residents are well looked after, the staff are amazing and always there to help. Always doing activities with the residents and they are always smiling and happy and enjoying it. The staff work very hard and are very helpful at all times. It's the best care home
I have ever been in! It's like home to the residents and they are so happy when I go there. The residents always say hello and we talk to them. The food is amazing, always have a wide choice or cook something special that they would like. Thank you to every one of the staff, you're doing an amazing job and it is nice knowing the residents are in safe hands.

My father has been a resident for the past two months. During this time he has always received excellent care. He is treated with dignity and respect at all times. Staff always go out of their way to ensure residents are happy and feel at home. Activities are always going on to keep residents entertained.

From the moment I stepped out of my car I was overwhelmed with the effort the staff had gone to for the D-Day celebrations with all the bunting and flags and it's obvious the staff have such pride in their community garden. Winchcombe Place continued to impress me with their warm welcome and atmosphere,
it was like stepping into one of my favourite cafes in Brighton, The receptionist was laughing at a joke one of the residents was telling her, there were residents chatting and catching up with each other, relatives visiting drinking coffee and chatting, the place had a real buzz about it. And then as if by magic the senior customer relations manager appeared arm outstretched with the biggest smile and said you must be Lewis how lovely to meet you. If I'm completely honest at that point I didn't need the tour because my mind was already made up, I wanted my mum living here in this care home
With this staff and this atmosphere and I even contemplated cancelling my other three care home appointments that day.

Mum moved to Winchcombe at the end of May and we've been delighted with how welcome they made her, and how many activities they have on offer. Mum has some complex health issues which the team have been fantastic in supporting. She loves her room, and really loves that we can bring our puppy with us
when we visit. Winchcombe really is home from home!

When visiting my nan the staff were very friendly and helpful with any questions I asked. Made to feel very welcome by all the different staff. Lots of different things to do. They let me attend when nan was doing one of the lifestyle activities. I would recommend any of these as the staff are always

Dad has been in Winchcombe Place since last November, the care and support he has received since that very first week has been brilliant. I was reminded last week how lucky we were to choose this home.
Dad's niece came from Australia to see him and we chose to make it a whole family day with husbands,
partners, Dad's grandson and the dog. The staff could not do enough for us all, from preparing a room and looking after us to interacting with the whole family. It was wonderful. I was reminded that ever since that first day, the kindness, care and support of the whole team, from cook to carer. receptionist and management were very evident and very visible. Dad is well supported, stimulated and cared for so much more than we had hoped. We feel that we have got our Dad back. Living in Winchcombe Place is like being part of one big family with families and staff interacting together for the benefit of the residents.

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2024

I have 30 years of experience working in care homes, and I was keen to join Care UK because of Winchcombe Place’s great reputation within the local community.


Before this, I was working as a Home Manager of a nursing home for residents living with dementia who required nursing care.


As Home Manager of Winchcombe Place, it’s important that I’m empathetic, a good listener and have good leadership skills. I ensure I’m always open and transparent and show my own learning when needed.


My favourite part of the day is walking around the home and talking to residents, relatives and colleagues. By spending time with residents, I find out what else we can be doing to enhance their lives.


I’m proud of my achievements, including a career highlight of turning a home from ‘Requires Improvement’ to ‘Good’ within six months. But I also feel fulfilled when I see my team enhancing the lives of residents or progressing in their careers. Seeing the residents smile and having a great quality of life also makes everything we do worth it.


The most important part of my role is ensuring the safety of the residents and all those who visit Winchcombe Place. As both a manager and someone who has had a loved one live in a care home, I have valuable experience seeing care homes from both sides.


When I’m not at work, I enjoy family walks with my beautiful cockapoo Lottie, cooking and travelling.
