We are super happy with our experience in dealing with the care home. Their attention to detail is exemplary and they have provided amazing care to my nan. They have supported her brilliantly and have also supported us as a family. We can now relax knowing she is in safe hands and getting the best care possible

Winchcombe Place is like a home from home. Everything you want for your loved one and us the people who are in need of support for them. A smiley warm welcome every time. My husband knew he was being heard. Gentle approach and empathy. The home has been very well designed and maintained throughout. The coffee shop has the most amazing cakes. Entertainment everyday for those who want to join in and quiet company for those who don't. I would definitely recommend Winchcombe. The staff are 5* lead by most caring team who want the best for all of their residents.

My father has been a resident for several months now. I have been consistently impressed with the care team. They are friendly, kind and caring to the residents with a wide variety of needs. John, Mo and Suzanne stand out for me and ensure a great culture and atmosphere. As a visitor I always feel welcome and questions and requests are always dealt with. Well done all!

Reply from Emily Swatton, Reviews Team at Winchcombe Place

Thank you so much for this, Paul. It's reassuring to know that over these past months you've seen consistent, genuine care for your father, and that questions or requests never go unanswered. John, Mo and Suzanne will be especially pleased to be mentioned by name, they, along with the rest of the team, put a lot into creating the kind of atmosphere you've described. Thank you.

Winchcombe Place is a wonderful place! The staff go out of their way to ensure that the residents are happy and well cared for; nothing is too much trouble. We used Winchombe Place for respite care, and the whole process from booking to the end of the stay was fantastic! I'd recommend them to anybody.

Thank you so much for your lovely feedback. It's wonderful to hear that respite care went so well from beginning to end, and that the care and attention to detail were felt at every step, not just during the stay itself. We're so glad Winchcombe Place could give you both peace of mind when it mattered.

Winchcombe is a fantastic home. When mums hospital discharge was delayed several times meaning we would be on holiday when she was finally discharged, the team at Winchcombe took over and made everything absolutely seamless meaning we didn't have to cancel our holiday.
From the minute you walk in the door everyone is so welcoming and smiling which makes visit days that little bit easier. The carers work so hard. Nothing is ever too much trouble and they do genuinely care about the residents which shines through when they interact with them.

Cannot recommend highly enough.

My mother has been in Winchcombe for nearly a year now and I have been extremely impressed with the home and the way she has been treated.

The facilities are first rate and the home is always clean and tidy but more important than that is the atmosphere in the home and this is down to the staff and the way they treat the my mother.

I have been to visit my mother over Christmas and at a time when most of use are spending time with families the staff at Winchcombe are working hard to make it a great time for family members who are resident at the home.

I would like to say a very big thanks for the caring professionalism i see in every member of the team at Winchcombe, from the senior managers to the careers and support staff.

Mum spent 6/7 months st Winchcombe after a spell of ill health & not being able to cope in her own home anymore.
From day one Mum (& family) were made so welcome. Mum settled pretty quickly into a really good routine of exceptional care, good food, & so much kindness from all the staff.
After a few months Mum had made such an improvement that she was able to go back to her own home which is something we never thought would have been possible.

So grateful to all at Winchcombe ... Our family would recommend without a doubt.

I couldn't speak more highly of the experience we have had so far with Winchcombe place. The help and support that we received before my mother in law became a resident was superb, the staff have been warm, friendly and incredibly welcoming, they have made a very challenging time a little lighter. The facilities are fantastic and provide a very secure and very homely environment to be enjoyed by the residents and their family and friends.

Home is always friendly and approachable. Good interaction with relatives residents and staff. Regular meetings and updates. Good management structure in place, for both clinical and non-clinical enquiries. Rooms are clean and tidy, as are all communal areas. Nice to see the coffee shop back in operation. Food could be improved by waiting for a menu change for winter. As always, chocolate éclairs go fast, and all residents love them.

My dad was recently in this home and overall he had good care. The staff on the whole were pleasant and caring some members of staff were truly exceptional. The food was good and we were made welcome all the time. The entertainment team put in lots of enthusiasm. The receptionists are also are a major credit, going above and beyond their role However the care hone could sadly not meet my father s advancing dementia and this aspect was poorly managed and very stressful to us. We were not involved in any meetings and there was poor communication and updates regarding the management of my dads needs, culminating in a rush to find an alternative home. We were never warned that the home would not be able to meet the needs of challenging dementia. In my opinion this is a lovely home for the fairly abled or stable older person who can appreciate the activities, the cinema ,the outings etc but when advanced symptoms arise the home was not equipped ti manage .

My father in law moved in in February this year, and we were really warned about him adjusting to living somewhere new. All members of staff have been absolutely amazing, welcoming both him and the family to the home. He is now very much settled in, we no longer have any worries about him being there, as we know how well he is being looked after.

I would highly recommend Winchcombe Place, it's an excellent care home.

My Mum has been in Winchcombe Place for a good many years. During that time I have not had any reason to complain about the support that the carers provide. They have very difficult roles and in my opinion, they provide the best they can for the residents at different levels. I would not hesitate to recommend this home to anyone seeking support for their loved ones.

The staff at Winchcombe Place were most supportive of both my wife and myself. They were friendly, patient and professional. Once as we walked along a hallway one of the carers approached us. As she past my wife raised her arm and embraced the young carer - that warmth was comforting to witness. My wife avoided participating in group activities but on occasions the gentile encouragement from staff overcame her resistance. For the first two months of her stay I visited my wife from 11 am to 2 pm. We chatted in her room, had a coffee and pastry and then went to one of the smaller lounges and listened to R&R music on the CD player. My wife found the noise of dishes etc. in the dining room disturbing and to facilitate us the staff brought the meal to another small lounge that had a dining table. After those first two months it was suggested that my health would benefit if I reduced the frequency of my visits. I accepted this good advice and reduced my visits to four days per week. Sadly my wife passed away in her sleep. I am most grateful of all the support I received.

My husband, who has Alzheimer's, arrived at Winchcombe on Saturday for two weeks of respite care. It is now Monday evening. We were greeted at reception and taken to his room, which is large, light, airy and en suite. He has settled in immediately, the staff have been so supportive to him and me, they are approachable, informative, friendly and professional. I am invited to eat with him when I am visiting at meal times. The coffee bar has been a hit, especially the home-made cakes and biscuits! He has enjoyed joining in with all the activities; Rememberance parade, singing and yoga. As someone who has been resistant to joining in, seeing him happy, relaxed and content is wonderful. He is looking forward to visits from school children and crafts in the next few days. The lounge areas are lovely for a quiet snooze when needed. This beginning has made me feel safe to leave him without feeling so guilty. My thanks to all the team.

My mother is a resident of 7 years, living with dementia and the after effects of a stroke. The decor and maintenance is looking good, presenting a lovely feeling of comfort and calm. The most important aspect, for myself, is one of trust. Trust that the personal care, safety, dignity and medical care is consistently of a high standard and the relationship of the staff and management team allows me to maintain my bond as a son. Underlying that trust are the most important humans in the home, the staff. Their attitude and behaviour is what makes the environment for the personal needs of my mum (everyone is different with different levels of social comfort, engagement and needs). The hospitality team must be specially mentioned as the vibrancy and energy around the home is their creation which is felt as you enter the building. The administrative group are great and long may the managment team train, develop, respect, and grow everyone who is employed on this home's journey to excellence.

Claire Cullen
Claire CullenJob Title:Home ManagerJoined: 2024

I have 30 years of experience working in care homes, and I was keen to join Care UK because of Winchcombe Place’s great reputation within the local community.

Before this, I was working as a Home Manager of a nursing home for residents living with dementia who required nursing care.

As Home Manager of Winchcombe Place, it’s important that I’m empathetic, a good listener and have good leadership skills. I ensure I’m always open and transparent and show my own learning when needed.

My favourite part of the day is walking around the home and talking to residents, relatives and colleagues. By spending time with residents, I find out what else we can be doing to enhance their lives.

I’m proud of my achievements, including a career highlight of turning a home from ‘Requires Improvement’ to ‘Good’ within six months. But I also feel fulfilled when I see my team enhancing the lives of residents or progressing in their careers. Seeing the residents smile and having a great quality of life also makes everything we do worth it.

The most important part of my role is ensuring the safety of the residents and all those who visit Winchcombe Place. As both a manager and someone who has had a loved one live in a care home, I have valuable experience seeing care homes from both sides.

When I’m not at work, I enjoy family walks with my beautiful cockapoo Lottie, cooking and travelling.
