During the length of the Coronavirus 19 outbreak, Winchcombe Place has kept us supplied with a number of emails updating us on the difficult situation while under an extremely pressurised time.
Every time I telephoned in, I was put through to the first-floor staff, who reassured me that my mother was safe and well. I also walked to the home and spoke to the reception staff, who arranged for my Mother to wave from her window.

Everyone has been very helpful, and it's been reassuring seeing the staff wearing the correct PPE.

We are very grateful for the care and concern shown to my mother by the staff of Winchcombe Place over the last month. She has recently left hospital and the attention and support and encouragement she has been given is first class. She is comfortable and looked after to the highest standard. We very much appreciate the dedication and commitment of staff especially during these difficult times of the Coronavirus pandemic. Thank you, everyone.

My aunt, who died recently, lived at Winchcombe Place for a number of years very contentedly. Whenever I visited, always unexpected, I found my charismatic aunt with the newspaper in the lounge, playing Bingo or Scrabble, or having her hair done. The staff were always welcoming, the atmosphere congenial and the setting pleasant. My aunt was a big character, never losing her sense of humour despite short-term memory issues. The hearse drove to the home prior to her cremation and fifteen members of lovely staff came out to pay their respects on a beautifully sunny day. It was very moving. Between them, they were responsible for making the last episode of her 99-year-long life a happy time. Thank you.

My father-in-law is extremely happy since he arrived at Winchcombe Place. The staff could not be more friendly, helpful and attentive. He feels very at home, safe and secure. He loves the food and the cups of tea that arrive on a regular basis and the fact everything in his room is kept so clean and spotless. He enjoys the peace of the gardens and the sense of independence within the caring community that Winchombe Place provides so effectively. The staff are also very helpful and attentive to us as a family.

My mother celebrated her 90th birthday yesterday with the staff and life team at Winchcombe Place. Not being able to visit was terribly difficult for all her family so to receive such lovely photos of my mother looking at her cards and gift really meant the world to us all.
It gives us huge peace of mind to know that my mother has such wonderful and caring people looking after her.
Thank you all.

Stay safe and keep smiling.

Winchcombe Place is a very welcoming place with great staff. Dad's room is bright, clean and very spacious.
We visit dad very frequently hence ease and freedom of access is very important, so key-code access in the evenings is very much appreciated. Food is always great; which my dad always appreciates and so do I when I have coffee and cake in the downstairs reception area.

Dad is very well looked after... Thank you!!

The welcome received for my mother in law when she was accepted into Winchcombe Place has been so very refreshing.
I have been fully supported in setting up her room, her new home, for her in time for her discharge from hospital. The help given has been so appreciated and there wasn't one member of staff who didn't offer to support me in one way or another.
All the staff that I have met, when visiting my mum in law, have been so friendly and supportive of her and she is in good spirits as she is settling in.

We are looking forward to being able to visit and have family time together where she is able to participate and it will be lovely to see her getting involved in the various activities that happen there.

Mum has recently moved into Winchcombe Place due to failing memory. The staff have been welcoming and flexible, making Mum's move very straight forward. Mum's room is clean and bright with access to a small patio area for summer. The Manager has been extremely accommodating and made it very easy for us to bring in pictures and photographs to decorate the room and a bird feeder and birdbath for the garden. The decision to leave her home has not been an easy one for Mum but since the move, Mum seems much happier and really enjoys the stimulation of regular company and the range of activities that Winchcombe has been able to offer. I have been very reassured with our choice of Winchcombe Place and I am particularly pleased with Mum's obvious improvement in quality of life.

Entering, staff are friendly and helpful. The residence have choice of rooms for company o for being their own. Today I joined my sister and other residents for a church service and communion. They also do other activities, various. There is also a first-class cafe where they can go with family or friends, well-stocked. Also a nice garden with outside seating.

My Mum moved into Winchcombe in April. She made the decision that she needed more support than she was able to get whilst living at home.
What we like about Winchcombe are the staff - whether it be the ladies at reception, the clinical leads, the carers on the ground floor and the activity staff - they are all lovely and made Mum and us feel very welcome.

Mum enjoys the activities, the food and being able to get her hair done in the on-site salon!

Winchcombe I found a very friendly place to live with good, regular meals. Very good accommodation and I particularly liked a few walks each day in the lovely garden, especially designed obviously. Also, if anything went wrong the staff put it right. I was a lot better for my stay there.

My mother suffers from Parkinsons with Alzheimer's and has been slowly deteriorating over the past few years since moving into Winchcombe Place myself and my three brothers are very pleased with the service and extra care they have provided for the day to day needs for my mum.
The carers are fantastic, and there are a few who go that extra bit to ensure my mum is always comfortable and safe. They are always friendly and extremely caring for my mum, and when I visit my mother they are very friendly and caring to me.
I am so glad my mum is here because I don't think there is a better care home anywhere, and we as a family know she will get the best always.
Thank you to all the staff who have in the past dealt with my mum and the same to those who are looking after her now and in the future too.

Keep it up all of you you are doing, in my opinion, a marvellous job.

I offer my thanks and congratulations to the entire staff of Winchcombe Place who made the selection of the care-home a straightforward and pleasurable experience. The staff were empathetic to the concerns of my wife's aunt, who was seeking respite care; they explained the process and facilities superbly.
The admission process yesterday could not have been bettered, from the smiling face at Reception and through to all the other highly pleasant and professional staff involved. The welcoming lunch was first class. The paperwork formalities were completed with minimum fuss.

By the time I departed the new resident was relaxed, smiling and very much 'at home'. That evening, sounding very bright and 'chirpy' she phoned us to describe her excellent evening meal. Not only was she in better spirits than we had experienced for some months but we slept well too, knowing that she was in good hands. Our thanks to all concerned in this outstanding care home.

Claire Cullen
Claire CullenJob Title:Home ManagerJoined: 2024

I have 30 years of experience working in care homes, and I was keen to join Care UK because of Winchcombe Place’s great reputation within the local community.

Before this, I was working as a Home Manager of a nursing home for residents living with dementia who required nursing care.

As Home Manager of Winchcombe Place, it’s important that I’m empathetic, a good listener and have good leadership skills. I ensure I’m always open and transparent and show my own learning when needed.

My favourite part of the day is walking around the home and talking to residents, relatives and colleagues. By spending time with residents, I find out what else we can be doing to enhance their lives.

I’m proud of my achievements, including a career highlight of turning a home from ‘Requires Improvement’ to ‘Good’ within six months. But I also feel fulfilled when I see my team enhancing the lives of residents or progressing in their careers. Seeing the residents smile and having a great quality of life also makes everything we do worth it.

The most important part of my role is ensuring the safety of the residents and all those who visit Winchcombe Place. As both a manager and someone who has had a loved one live in a care home, I have valuable experience seeing care homes from both sides.

When I’m not at work, I enjoy family walks with my beautiful cockapoo Lottie, cooking and travelling.
