I would like to thank all staff for the wonderful afternoon they gave my Mum and Aunt yesterday. It was absolutely amazing to see them reunited after so long apart. Your planning, care, lunch and entertainment went above and beyond all exceptions, giving us an afternoon filled with joy, laughter, music and singing. Truly a memory for us all to cherish. You are an amazing team and I could not wish for more caring people looking after my Mum. On behalf of all our family we cannot thank you enough.

My mother has been very happy at Winchcombe Care Home for nearly 4 years now. I can't thank the staff enough, from the management reception staff and those in the office; to the team leaders, carers, and cleaning staff for their kindness and keeping Mum on her feet in a loving family way (yes cross words at times but with love!). I now wish to commend two staff members in particular who stayed with Mum when she had had a fall and hit her head. Over an hour wait for the ambulance! But both went above and beyond in keeping Mum awake and comfortable. I can continue the list of amazing staff who have since needed patience with Mum adjusting to being in bed and having personal care and regular repositioning to limit bed sores! A real team of amazing empathic individuals. Well done!

I have been extremely pleased with Winchcombe. My nan is increasingly happy and settled. The home is lovely - gorgeous gardens and we love the coffee shop. It gives such a sense of normality to sit with a cake, coffee and newspaper. My nan loves the activities, especially the animals. This morning she had a relaxing 'namaste'. The staff are thoughtful, compassionate and kind. The home is well run - thank you. Exemplary, thank you.

Saw article in paper inviting locals to join in with activities, been joining in for several months. Know several staff and residents from my past. Best thing I've done in years. Join in with chair exercises and crafts, like animals that visit. Made very welcome. Consider staying when can't look after myself. Good food and entertainment. Look forward to all the activities and company and speaking to all friendly staff. Don't like going home to empty house but do get a few visitors (family, neighbours friends and some with dogs.)

Absolutely brilliant! Its clean, the residents are well looked after, the staff are amazing and always there to help. Always doing activities with the residents and they are always smiling and happy and enjoying it. The staff work very hard and are very helpful at all times. It's the best care home I have ever been in! It's like home to the residents and they are so happy when I go there. The residents always say hello and we talk to them. The food is amazing, always have a wide choice or cook something special that they would like. Thank you to every one of the staff, you're doing an amazing job and it is nice knowing the residents are in safe hands.

From the moment I stepped out of my car I was overwhelmed with the effort the staff had gone to for the D-Day celebrations with all the bunting and flags and it's obvious the staff have such pride in their community garden. Winchcombe Place continued to impress me with their warm welcome and atmosphere, it was like stepping into one of my favourite cafes in Brighton, The receptionist was laughing at a joke one of the residents was telling her, there were residents chatting and catching up with each other, relatives visiting drinking coffee and chatting, the place had a real buzz about it. And then as if by magic the senior customer relations manager appeared arm outstretched with the biggest smile and said you must be Lewis how lovely to meet you. If I'm completely honest at that point I didn't need the tour because my mind was already made up, I wanted my mum living here in this care home

With this staff and this atmosphere and I even contemplated cancelling my other three care home appointments that day.

Mum moved to Winchcombe at the end of May and we've been delighted with how welcome they made her, and how many activities they have on offer. Mum has some complex health issues which the team have been fantastic in supporting. She loves her room, and really loves that we can bring our puppy with us when we visit. Winchcombe really is home from home!

When visiting my nan the staff were very friendly and helpful with any questions I asked. Made to feel very welcome by all the different staff. Lots of different things to do. They let me attend when nan was doing one of the lifestyle activities. I would recommend any of these as the staff are always ready to help with anything that they are asked.

Dad has been in Winchcombe Place since last November, the care and support he has received since that very first week has been brilliant. I was reminded last week how lucky we were to choose this home.

Dad's niece came from Australia to see him and we chose to make it a whole family day with husbands, partners, Dad's grandson and the dog. The staff could not do enough for us all, from preparing a room and looking after us to interacting with the whole family. It was wonderful. I was reminded that ever since that first day, the kindness, care and support of the whole team, from cook to carer. receptionist and management were very evident and very visible. Dad is well supported, stimulated and cared for so much more than we had hoped. We feel that we have got our Dad back. Living in Winchcombe Place is like being part of one big family with families and staff interacting together for the benefit of the residents.

The welcome that our mum has received at Winchcombe Place has been amazing and she loves it here. Every staff member we have come across has been so helpful, friendly and very supportive not only towards Mum, but to all of her family and friends too. From the moment we first visited to view this as her potential care home, it has felt like a warm hug from old friends.
The staff at Winchcombe Place have enabled the transition from her previous care home to this one to be a perfectly smooth one. The patience and care given to Mum with a new routine has been amazing and so reassuring.

Mum has been more independent and much happier here knowing that alongside all the support that she needs, her wellbeing is at the forefront of her care. Her mental health has improved significantly as has her general health. This has enabled Mum to join in with activities, socialise with other residents as well as staff and feel like she belongs to a wonderful and caring community.

We moved our mum (93) into Winchcombe for respite care for two weeks and we couldn’t have made a better choice the staff were beyond kind and caring and made not only my mum feel at home but her family too. Nothing was too much trouble, the food (especially the homemade soups I’m told) was really good, the activities (she led the singalong first night) wonderful, the cafe a real hit as we all had somewhere to gather that felt special.
A special mention to two staff members who couldn’t have been kinder and so professional. In fact, the main reason we picked Winchcombe is because of one of the staff members, she was born to do this work, and our mum and we were made to feel so loved and taken care of from the moment we met her.
All the staff are amazing kind and caring and professional and when my mum left today a lot of kind words and kisses were exchanged by all.

Thank you to everyone, it was a very scary, emotional time for us and you all made our decision so right.

We moved Mum into Winchcombe Place about three months ago. Right from the start, before Mum even moved in, all the staff we worked with were incredibly helpful, sympathetic and supportive to us and Mum.
The quality of care is really lovely, the carers really do seem to treat this as a vocation rather than just a job. The chefs happily prepare special meals for Mum to provide her with nutritious meals to her liking.
The entertainment and stimulation from the very comprehensive programme of activities is fantastic. The various animal visitors and entertainers are always a joy.

It was an incredibly difficult decision to move Mum into a care home, but the staff at Winchcombe Place made the whole process very straightforward and much less stressful than it could have been. I'd have absolutely no hesitation in recommending

Excellent care, friendly compassionate staff, clean environment and well-managed. Our family would highly recommend this establishment.

Meet the Team (1)

Claire Cullen
Claire CullenJob Title:Home ManagerJoined: 2024

I have 30 years of experience working in care homes, and I was keen to join Care UK because of Winchcombe Place’s great reputation within the local community.

Before this, I was working as a Home Manager of a nursing home for residents living with dementia who required nursing care.

As Home Manager of Winchcombe Place, it’s important that I’m empathetic, a good listener and have good leadership skills. I ensure I’m always open and transparent and show my own learning when needed.

My favourite part of the day is walking around the home and talking to residents, relatives and colleagues. By spending time with residents, I find out what else we can be doing to enhance their lives.

I’m proud of my achievements, including a career highlight of turning a home from ‘Requires Improvement’ to ‘Good’ within six months. But I also feel fulfilled when I see my team enhancing the lives of residents or progressing in their careers. Seeing the residents smile and having a great quality of life also makes everything we do worth it.

The most important part of my role is ensuring the safety of the residents and all those who visit Winchcombe Place. As both a manager and someone who has had a loved one live in a care home, I have valuable experience seeing care homes from both sides.

When I’m not at work, I enjoy family walks with my beautiful cockapoo Lottie, cooking and travelling.
