The staff are really great with Mum looking after her and looking out for her.
I know Mum would love to be at home with me but she's at a point where the 24-hour care and medical assistance are essential now. Dementia is a cruel disease.

I am always made welcome at Osborne House. The staff are lovely and extremely caring. The home is welcome and clean and I am always allowed a meal with my mum. It's a home-from-home. There is a varied programme of activities and recently I attended a choir with my mum.

My mum is near the end and that's a difficult time for everyone. The staff are being so caring and thoughtful about my mum, and incredibly supportive of me. They have her best interest at heart, always include me and inform me, and are so kind when it feels too sad. My mum is warm, comfortable and safe,
and I'm so glad she's in Osborne House. Thank you.

Generally a good level of care and professionalism. The staff are kind, caring and responsive to most needs. However, staff numbers can be stretched at times, particularly at weekends.
A more focused and consistent approach to residents' dignity would be appreciated. Happy to discuss this.

My sister has been very well cared for since her admission to Osborne House. In view of my sister's mental state, she requires very close supervision and care. The staff at Osborne House are professional in their management of her situation and provide understanding care 24 hours a day. This gives
us much comfort in view of us living in Chester which is a considerable distance away.

We are delighted by how well my Grandma is being cared for since moving to Osbourne House. The staff are so kind, hard-working and caring. Grandma feels safe, secure and comfortable and we can see an improvement in her emotional well-being. As a family we also feel incredibly welcomed and the home makes
it so easy for us to visit and feel a part of Grandma’s life.

What a lovely care home Osborne House is. My mum needed 24/7 care and I called in on the off chance, hoping for help. A staff member explained the whole set-up and the manager came out to visit my mum and explain in full all about the care home. My mum was very well looked after in the home, nothing
was a problem. My mum’s health didn’t improve whilst in the care home and sadly she passed away within 6 weeks of admission. Her death was very peaceful and the room she died in was very tranquil. We were treated with dignity and kindness on my mum’s passing. One staff member treated us so well and stayed with us until the undertakers came. Many more staff members to mention but many were magnificent in helping and nursing my mum. I’d say well done to all the team at Osborne House.

On leaving the hospital to go into nursing floor my father was very poorly. The staff's kindness and encouragement and nursing care helped him feel like his old self and back onto the residential floor. Where he now joins in the brilliant organised activities and mixing with all the other residents.
A great place with lots of fun and laughter.

Mum has been a resident of Osborne House since January 2023.
During that time the care team and Selby CHADS have monitored her health and well-being on a daily business.
She now has a mixed dementia diagnosis and is receiving medication to help her condition.
Throughout the last 12 months, the Care
Manager, Ground Floor and 2nd Floor managers together with their support teams have all cared for Mum.
She has settled in well and enjoys the daily activities. The Osborne team have been very helpful in helping the family to come to terms with Mum's condition and have given us all confidence that she is receiving the best care and attention she deserves.

I would wish to say that from the very first moment my mother came into your care from October through to November 2023, every one of the staff was wonderful in their care, attention and love shown to her.
I also was given the same attention and offered help should I need it.
So I thank you so very
much for looking after her during her stay with you; I say it again, wonderful care shown by all.

My father moved to Osborne House earlier this year following a period of severe illness. He was reluctant to leave his home but this was happily short-lived. The surroundings, staff and atmosphere here are lovely and Dad recuperated very well. My dad settled in with the help of all the staff and very
quickly came to really feel that this was his home especially as we were able to personalise his room. We were happy to leave Dad in the care of Osborne House and he made some really good friends there. The programme of activities is fantastic with something for everyone - Dad loved carpet bowls and the Monday exercises. Dad passed away at the end of August and we were wonderfully supported by the staff and the send-off they gave him was incredibly emotional. I would thoroughly recommend anyone looking for care to have a look at Osborne House.

My cousin has been a resident here for a few months. Besides the fact that he wanted to go back to his home initially, he has been cared for very well here. His needs are being met and medically he has improved. He has seemed happy and if we have asked the house for anything, like his nails being cut,
then this has been done as soon as possible.
At the moment he has been admitted to hospital due to an infection and one of the staff has shown an interest in his well being, contacting the hospital and then me to keep me and the house updated as to his progress. Hopefully my cousin will be able to go back to Osborne House as soon as possible.

Very pleased that Mum has moved to this home as she has settled in well. Staff are very friendly and caring.
My mum quite likes the food which is a minor miracle in itself.
The home is clean and the staff appear to be very good at caring for patients individual needs.
I would have no hesitation in
recommending them to anyone who, for whatever reason, is looking for a care home placement.

Osborne House Care Home is a beautiful care home and is very clean and does not smell. You are always met with a warm welcome. The staff on the unit where my relative resides are very professional and treat everyone as individuals and are very respectful. I feel my relative is very well cared for and
is treated with dignity. I feel very happy that my relative is safe and any issues are dealt with as they occur and incidents quashed almost before they have had a chance to erupt.
The only problem is when they have to cover the usual lovely carers with agency workers. Some agency workers are ok but there are others who are lazy, spend most of their time on their mobile phones, have to be told what to do when the need for them to do something is very obvious. They have no initiative. That is when I feel the care could break down.

Overall I believe the service to be very good. However, the food sadly is not to the standard I would expect. However, the staff 9 times out of 10 are wonderful and caring. The lack of staff often affects Mum's ability to be able to sit out and the bathroom seems not suitable for wheelchair use. Also,
the bed could be improved.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.831)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.831) out of 10 for Osborne House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 29 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.831 for Osborne House is calculated as follows: ( (294 Excellents x 5) + (42 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 344 Ratings = 4.831
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Osborne House is based on 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 74 registered maximum number of service users is 14.8, which has been reached with 29 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Housekeeper Joined: 2013

I joined Osborne House in 2013 when the care home was about to open.

I had previously worked in another care setting as a housekeeper for 4 years before this.

I am welcoming, bubbly, and enthusiastic about my role and Osborne House.

From day one of working at Osborne House, I have loved and still love my job, it is very rewarding.

Interacting with staff, residents and visitors on a daily basis is something I love! Each day is different.

I enjoy helping in other aspects of the home as well as Housekeeping. I am proud to run an excellent team, and be part of an excellent team at Osborne House.
