Mum has Vascular Dementia and was transferred to Osborne House from York A&E at the end of June 2020. Since Mum has been there we have been amazed at the change, from being very confused, upset and anxious with poor mobility she is now settled, happy and with improved mobility. We knew nothing about
Osborne House and feel very lucky that Mum was sent there. The staff are brilliant, both in caring for Mum and indirectly us as well. There is always something organised for Mum to do and she is happy to join in. We have only had garden and window visits due to lockdown and look forward to when we can go in for a cup of tea and a big hug with her. We cannot thank them enough for everything they do.

Mum has been in Osborne House since January 2015. She has been very well taken care of, the staff are helpful and always very friendly, they go above and beyond what I would think is the norm. For example, Mum had a big Birthday last year and her family were included in the celebrations from all over
the world via Zoom. A huge thank you goes out to the staff for making this happen. During Covid times we have been able to Facetime with mum with the help of a staff member, usually when her shift has finished. Osborne House have done an amazing job of keeping the virus out of the Home. Thank you for all you are doing in these troubling times to keep the Residents safe. The activities that are offered are varied and interesting; they certainly made Christmas a happy and creative event, as they do with all major celebrations, community or personal.

In my opinion, Osborne House is a first-class establishment. I have been very comfortable. The staff are exceptional, nothing is too much to ask. Food is first-class, including a visit from the chef for food preferences. Thank you to all.

My mum first used Osborne House for respite, back in July 2019, then moved in full time in September the same year. The care she has been given is excellent. Lovely clean rooms, the staff are so friendly and caring, always smiling and chatting, great food menu, great activities for all the residents
to join in with and a lovely garden. My mum is so happy there, she’s made some good friends.

My mum has been a resident for just over a year. The room she is in is big, clean and nicely decorated. The staff are really caring and look after my mum well. She can be stubborn at times if she doesn’t want to do something but the staff know her well and know how to deal with her. She is in her bed
most of the time but they do try and persuade her to get out and sometimes succeed. The home has the same challenges as they all do but overall the family have been very happy. The chance to video call my mum in these difficult times is great and I know she enjoys them.

My Mum had been a resident at Osborne House for over two years until she passed away at the weekend. I can't fault the care she has received during that time. The staff have been both professional and caring, creating a friendly relaxed atmosphere for the residents.
Mum celebrated her 100th birthday
in November, a tribute to how well she was being looked after. I can't thank them enough.

My auntie loves the home and can not speak higher of the staff, nothing is too much trouble.
Every time I visit, the staff offer drinks and ask me if I want to stay for something to eat. All departments of staff work as one team. My auntie loves the food and enjoys the friendships she has made in Osborne
House. She is very happy here. Well done to everyone for the great job you do.

My father-in-law only stayed for respite and unfortunately died during that time. But nothing was too much. The staff were lovely and supportive during a sad time for us. I would thoroughly recommend Osborne House. It's spotless and doesn't have that old people's home smell you normally get. The food
is cooked on the premises every day to a high quality. Thank you for also taking care of my mother-in-law whilst she spent several hours there every day. They fed her and offered her a room when we needed to stay 24/7 at the end. We were allowed to make ourselves hot drinks, which really helped when you're there a long time.

I would like to acknowledge the superb care given to my wife during her brief stay. In particular, I would like to thank the staff for the tremendous support that they provided in a respectful and friendly manner. As a frequent visitor, I was always welcomed and was confident that my wife was receiving

The care that my mother received was professional and of the highest quality. All the staff, from nursing, general services, to management and administration was warm, caring and approachable. Nothing was too much trouble. Above all, every member of the team treated my mother, my father and the rest
of the family with absolute dignity and respect. The home is fantastic and you should be proud of everyone there.

My Auntie has been in Osborne House for nearly 3 years and has been looked after extremely well by all on the dementia unit, could not ask for more. The care and understanding has been outstanding with all. The home itself is a good and very calm and collective place. I could not ask for more, thank
you Osborne House and thank you, staff, for all that you are doing. Kind regards.

I was at Osborne House for a week's respite. The deputy manager was excellent. The activities were also good and I enjoyed an exercise group and a hand massage. The big negative, for me, was the buzzers which seemed to ring all the time day and night.

We have just returned from visiting a new resident to your facility who is sadly suffering with Alzheimer's. My mother in law has been unwell for a while and the family wanted to see how a short stay would be taken by her. While she was confused at times she was welcomed in by all the staff and to our
great pleasure, we were made aware of the daily activities provided by this facility. She participated in all activities as the staff would come to collect her each day.
The facility is warm, clean and the food and service provided were excellent. Myself and my husband who was worried about how she would react to this change were grateful that she was being very well looked after and all her needs were being met by the incredibly friendly staff.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.849)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.849) out of 10 for Osborne House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 33 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 33 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.849 for Osborne House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (341 Excellents x 5) + (43 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 392 Ratings = 4.849
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Osborne House Care Home is based on 33 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 74 registered maximum number of service users is 14.8, which has been reached with 33 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
