My experience of Amherst House since mum has been a resident is a very positive one. She is very well looked after and all her needs are catered for. This has allowed myself and my wife to enjoy more free time to enjoy our retirement. Mum seems happy where she is and that is very important for us as
a family.

Everyone has been so helpful, kind and patient with my mother. I couldn't be more pleased with her care.
Also, the care home is exceptionally clean and bright, which helps improve the patients' physiological well being.

I find all the staff extremely pleasant and helpful. Nothing is too much for them. They treat all the residents with the care and compassion they deserve. Every member of staff I have met all are more than happy to speak to myself and the residents with clarity. They go out of their way to make sure
everyone is comfortable and informed with any changes to any medication or ongoing treatment. I couldn't have wished for any place better for my aunt.

Our families would like to express our sincere thanks for the care, kindness and professionalism shown to our uncle, especially in his final days. The end-of-life care he received was compassionate and respectful. On the night he passed away, staff were attentive and gently kept us informed as he became
close to the end. They arranged music he would have enjoyed, which brought comfort and peace in his final moments. These thoughtful actions meant a great deal to us. The carers showed genuine kindness, bringing food so we could stay with him and ensuring family members felt welcome and supported. Reception staff were always warm and reassuring, and nursing staff were empathetic, honest and professional throughout. We also appreciated the welcoming tea and coffee communal area and the cakes, which offered comfort during long and emotional visits. As a family, we felt listened to and included, and our uncle was treated with dignity and compassion right until the end of his life.

From the moment my daughter found this home for my brother, I was so thrilled at the service and friendship shown to us. The lady in charge came to the hospital and spoke to my brother and myself, and did the paper work at his bedside urgently, as Xmas was upon us, and I was going to my youngest daughter
for 4 days over Xmas to have a break, as I have been doing everything for him for 3 years, since his wife passed away, and he has no children. He has said he likes it here and only moved in today.

Dad moved to Amherst House in September after living independently on his own for several years. It was a quick decision to move, and it took Dad a while to settle into this new way of life.
Everyone on the team, from care staff, support workers, chef and management have worked to resolve any issues
or concerns raised, and Dad is now settled, happier and starting to enjoy this new phase of life.

Mum did find coming into care hard at first. But now she is so happy being at Amhurst House with the care and support has given her confidence back. She loves being part of a community, taking part in activities that are offered. Mum loves that there are options at mealtimes. Just like to say thank
you to all the staff for giving me my mum back and giving a lovely environment for her to be in, a real pleasure seeing her happy, smiling too and enjoying having her hair and nails done.

There is much for which I could commend Amherst House Care Home. At this time I congratulate the management team on their fantastic achievement, being named "best for staff recruitment and retention" national award. My doctoral research explored leadership engagement in organisation and I have taught
leadership in many countries for several leading business schools. I just wish I had had a case study based on leadership, management and team working at Amherst House to help share gold standard excellence in staff well-being with the many participants of executive education programmes. This excellence is evidenced through the attitude of contribution of staff who are buoyant and fun, and professional and compassionate in their care for residents. I and my family are just so thankful that our mother is so very happy as a member of the Amherst House family. Thank you.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.752)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.752) out of 10 for Amherst House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 38 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 38 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.752 for Amherst House is calculated as follows: ( (346 Excellents x 5) + (87 Goods x 4) + (10 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 444 Ratings = 4.752
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Amherst House is based on 38 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 38 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
