My mum spent the last 3 and half years of her life at Haddon Hall. She was very well cared for, with staff looking after her with dignity and respect - and a good dose of humour. I'm very pleased we chose this care home - my experience was of a team who do a great job, particularly in the very difficult
circumstances of the last year.
Reply from Mark Smith, Home Manager at Haddon Hall Care HomeThanks for your review and lovely comments, I will certainly share them with the whole team. Your mum was a delight to care for and we thank you for choosing Haddon Hall. Best Wishes.

We brought Mum to Haddon Hall in late July 2020. It was strange times due to Covid. The staff were welcoming and friendly. The ground floor staff were well managed and delivered excellent care to Mum. Due to Covid, there were no excursions. My mum has been a good cook in her day, and sadly found the
food not very appetising - I would rate what I saw as poor.
Reply from Mark Smith, Home Manager at Haddon Hall Care HomeThank you for taking the time to write a review of our home. All feedback is taken seriously and allows us to make any necessary changes to ensure that we can continue to provide the best service possible. I am sorry to hear that the dining experience was not to your mum's satisfaction. This has been fed back to the head chef, who will take your comments and those of our Residents into consideration when designing the next menu.

On entrance to Haddon which was for respite, he was quite poorly. Cared for well and recovered with lots of encouragement. Got to know the staff well and relationships blossomed both him with them and them with him - delightful to see.
End of life care was excellent of both the client and nearest
relative.

Due to covid my husband went into care a year ago and has little contact with outside. But from the start, he's been very well cared for by all the staff. As have I. Activities have been curtailed but staff have worked above and beyond to keep residents engaged. Cannot praise them enough.

Mum went into Haddon Hall in April 2020 straight from hospital and has had the most amazing care from all staff. Mum was very popular and had a lovely bond with the care staff who tendered her every need. Very professional and very, very caring. Thank you for all you did for Mum, I am truly grateful
to you all for looking after Mum.

Overall Experience 2.0 out of 5
My grandma was a resident for 2.5 years, she had failing health and was 93 years old. We had very limited contact with her over the past year due to the pandemic. The guidance states that visits should be allowed at end of life, meaning the last year of life, not just the last moments.
The manager
there would not allow visits, we had to argue and were only admitted access six days before her death - this was with much begging! He even compared us trying to see my grandma to him not seeing his mother for a year, she wasn’t dying, unlike my grandma! After her death, no phone call, no condolences and her belongings left in a trolley in the corridor. Just avoid, the management has no care or respect for their residents. It took three weeks to get an inadequate response to a complaint from management, we also know of other residents families who have had the same experience and have also raised complaints.
Reply from Mark Smith, Home Manager at Haddon Hall Care HomeThank you for sharing your views. We understand your grief at this difficult time but regret that some of the comments you have made are not representative of the circumstances at hand, which of course is understandable given that you were not the single person nominated for visiting in accordance with Government guidance and Public Health England guidance currently. I would confirm also, that End of Life visits did take place, again, in accordance with ever-changing guidance during these difficult times we are living in. It was our pleasure to have your Grandmother in our care for such a long time and our sincere condolences are with you, and all of your family.

The team at Haddon Hall made my dad's transition from hospital to Haddon Hall seamless and stress-free. My father's short stay relieved the pressure on our family knowing that he was being cared for in a kind and compassionate way. The end of his life was dealt with compassionately and professionally
making a difficult time easier for us to deal with. Thank you.

I have found Haddon Hall Care Home to be perfect for my father. The care is discreet, kind, humane and humorous. The place is spotless and I always get a very warm welcome when I visit or call Dad on Facetime. The staff are sensitive to the individual and go out of their way to make Dad feel valued
and appreciated. Thank you.

I was shown around the excellent facilities which exactly fitted my daughter's end of life needs. The staff and managers were gracious but efficient. My daughter has settled in despite the coronavirus restrictions, which although necessary, impair visits. No hugs available, only in the mind. All precautions
are rigorously applied. All in all very satisfied. Ps. coronavirus has stopped proper visiting, only 1/2 hour outside building visits are allowed.

My mum's description of Haddon Hall is "it's not like a care home, it's more like a 5* hotel. The food and the staff are lovely".
I think that says it all. My only concern is the bedroom furniture is very heavy and bulky for frail people.

Haddon Hall staff have looked after Dad extremely well. They have been so helpful in facilitating FaceTime calls with him during the lockdown.
His calm and contented state is because he is feeling secure and safe, well-fed and looked after. Staff are able to reassure me about his condition and the
current management of infection risk during the coronavirus pandemic.

My mother quickly settled in, feeling very safe. Haddon Hall is of a very high standard in terms of the building facilities. However, what makes Haddon Hall stand out is the team who work there, friendly and caring you expect as a given, but my experience is beyond that. All the staff are interested
and concerned for my mother's welfare, which makes her more relaxed and me also. Piece of mind that all is being done that can be.

This lovely luxury Care and Nursing Home has been a true haven for our lovely Mum since she arrived here in July. The staff, nurses and carers are all extremely friendly, professional and give a wonderful service all round. Mum's had a few problems medically to deal with to which we as a family could
not have wished for better attention. Thankyou Haddon Hall. You are fabulous.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.845)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.845) out of 10 for Haddon Hall Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 32 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 32 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.845 for Haddon Hall Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (322 Excellents x 5) + (44 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 373 Ratings = 4.845
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Haddon Hall Care Home is based on 32 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 75 registered maximum number of service users is 15, which has been reached with 32 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
