My mother's stay at this facility was appalling. Promised dementia care was replaced by neglect and disregard. She wasn't washed, wore unchanged clothes/underwear for days despite clean ones being available and her hearing aid was ignored-isolating her further. She was left alone in her room, excluded
from activities, and a trip hazard I reported was ignored. Her PRN medication was mishandled: they failed to administer it appropriately, and no PRN protocol was attached to her MAR chart. Conditions for use, frequency, and outcome monitoring were undocumented-a clear breach of safe practice. I witnessed a care assistant shouting aggressively at a vulnerable wheelchair-bound resident; when I intervened, she turned her aggression on me. I removed my mother early out of fear for her safety and wellbeing. This was not care-it was systemic failure. I've filed complaints and urge others to reconsider this facility.

My husband spent one week at Abbey Wood Lodge while I had a rest bite break. This was the first time I had done this. My husband had a spotless bedroom and he commented that the food was excellent during his stay. He enjoyed the company of the carriers and occasionally took part in the activities that
were available such as potting plants and keep fit exercises. I would certainly recommend Abbey Wood Lodge.

Mum has recently moved into Abbey wood Lodge. Even though the move was intiated without detailed planning it all appears to have
gone smoothly. Mum, appears happy and content at the home.
Since arriving at Abbey-wood Mum's sense of humour has returned accompanied by a far more relaxed persona. Which
had definitely diminished during her extended stay in Southport general hospital.
I'm delighted with how quickly Mum has settled. She is interacting not only with
the staff but the residents with whom she-shares her new home
I'd like to thank everyone for all the kindness and support provided towards my Mum, during the initial few weeks of her transition, into becoming part of Abbey Wood's clientele. It was clear to me nothing was deemed to much trouble. Fundamentally, everything possible is done to promote a happy home which offered a warm welcome to Mum. This prompted and encouraged Mum to engage with everyone around her. This was absent in her previous home.

Outstanding support for my mother. My mother has dementia and she thinks she is staying in a five star hotel on holiday she is so happy. The carers take excellent care of my mother and always note her welfare and inform myself and brothers. Safeguarding is superb reception always ensuring visitors
book in and checkout. When I took my mother to hospital appointments they ensured that she was booked out and in. My mother said she loves the food and activities The manager is outstanding and carers and reception are as well. My family are very pleased with Abbey Wood Lodge. The activities that take place are fantastic and lots of residents take part. We are so pleased that our mother is so happy and well cared for.

I visit my friend most Thursday mornings & have done since she became a resident. She is happy at Abbey Wood Lodge, enjoys the food & finds the staff to be kind, caring & helpful. She doesn't always want to join in activities but the staff alow her to opt in & out as she wishes & don't put her under
pressure to participate. She enjoys the exercise classes, trips out & musical entertainment provided. Having her hair done each week is also something she enjoys. Personally I have the greatest respect for ALL staff from carers to management, caretakers to kitchen & laundry workers. They have a difficult job to do & they do it in a friendly & caring manner, demonstrating patience & understanding, ready to comfort & reassure.

Due to a marked decline in my mothers mental health over Chistmas 2024 . we had to find a care home for her at short notice but which had a good reputation in Ormskirk. On speaking to the team at Abbey Wood they were able to facilitate her arrival on New Years eve 2024. Over the following months her
condition has improved considerably due to the staffs endeavours and she now feels at home. She has always been independent and we are amazed how quickly she has settled. The staff are excellent and there are activities almost daily which my mother participates in. We were introduced to a man who is overall responsible for the home. He has helped us as a family navigate the process of our mum living at the Abbey Wood Lodge. We are kept updated about how she is settling by him and his team. My mum loves the carers who look after her and also the hairdresser who visits weekly. I cannot recommend Abbey Wood Lodge Highly enough.

The senior management are awful. When complaints are raised they do not answer them. Medication was given and not recorded and then no medication was given for several days because of the system that is in place for distribution of medication. When GP re-instated normal meds there was still a delay
in giving them due to senior carers being inadequate. There communication between senior carers and family is poor and can be really detrimental to a family members health. SALT team changed Dad's diet and the family wasn't informed which is just disgraceful.
I witnessed some senior care staff shouting at residents in a way that can only be described as residents were clearly an inconvenience.
There are some lovely genuine carers in this home but these are overshadowed by really poor management. These genuine carers need to move on elsewhere otherwise I am sure in time this home will have a known disgusting reputation! I would not recommend this home mainly due to the management.

I would not give this place even half star if it was an option.
DO NOT send your loved ones to Abbey wood Lodge, unless you want to be in a constant state of distress. Their senior and management team are an absolute disgrace. This review page and overall CQC ratings are based years old reports from
when different management was employed. They DO NOT care about residents ! (this does not apply to some of the actual care team who work with residents directly) The CEO is well aware of the severe failings of this place as he has been there recently himself. But as is 90% of the senior/management team he's about as useful as a wet paper bag.

My mum was previously in a great care home, but increasing dementia meant we had to find a more suitable new place. We were concerned that it would be hard to find a placement that matched the standards of her previous home, but we need not have worried. Abbey Wood Lodge has proved to be excellent.
A particular strength is the quality of the staff, who all seem to be warm, friendly, professional and competent. I'd highly recommend this establishment.

My mum has just spent two weeks respite care in Abbeywood care home, all members of the team made her feel very welcome, she settled quickly. The room she was allocated overlooked the park, she enjoyed the view, watching the birds in the trees outside her window. The room was very comfortable it was
cleaned daily, the home always felt warm and inviting.
Mum enjoyed most meals, fish and chips being her favourite. She spoke of how lovely and helpful all the staff were, and was treated with kindness and dignity, throughout her stay, she would be happy to return in the future for further respite care. Myself and family were warmly welcomed when we visited, by management and all members of the team.

My husband's uncle has lived in Abbey Wood Lodge for the last 4 years, during which time it has become his home and the staff his family. They have cared for him and supported him throughout this time. When it became apparent end-of-life care was needed the staff continued to care for him and support
us through this process. The kindness shown by all staff has been greatly appreciated and we couldn't praise the home highly enough.

Please don't send your loved ones here.
Our experience with this home; Mum was attacked. Multiple safeguarding concerns. Administered incorrect dosage of pills. Poor management/worsening of medical conditions - diabetes/lymphedema/wound care. Failure to preserve dignity.
Mum was attacked by another
resident, this was never properly addressed with conflicting accounts. The attack led to the deterioration of mum's condition, to which staff advised she was fine and wouldn't remember the attack anyway due to the dementia, this was not the case. Mum developed a tic and was scared someone was trying to hurt/kill her. Management then claimed they could not cope with it and wanted mum out of the care home. The attacker was left on the same floor as mum and other vulnerable residents, in our opinion compromising their safety.
On the face of it, the care home appeared to be an ideal place to look after mum, however, our experience was very different.

Abbie Wood Lodge is a very good care home. My gran has been there for almost two years and the care is very good and the carers are lovely and very helpful. The manager is very good, my nan is very happy there and has made many friends.

My mum has been a resident since November, it was a huge and hard decision for our family to make for my mum. But her care she receives is excellent, the staff are so supportive and really personable. We know our mum is safe and all her needs are taken care of.

I cannot speak more highly of my experience of Abbey Wood Lodge. Having known my Mother-in-law for over 35 years now I couldn't be more aware of just how difficult a decision this has been (for the entire family) for her to have to go into care. It really was the best/only option at this stage. The
most remarkable and probably the most surprising thing that I have experienced with Abbey Wood has been the support and extraordinary kindness shown to the entire family. It is abundantly obvious that the staff genuinely care about her as a person which is so lovely to see, their interaction with her is remarkable.. but the care and thoughtfulness shown to our family as a whole has made such an enormous difference and the reassurance given to us that such a loved member of our family is not only being 'cared' for but loved is everything. When the time comes for you to find a place in a care home you will in all likelihood visit several different homes and wanting only the very best for your loved one you try to consider everything you possibly can. In our case out of the 8 care homes we considered it was very clear that Abbey Wood Lodge
was where we wanted our mum to go. In truth, like many other people in our situation, we didn't want our mum to go into a care home at all but it was obvious that we were at the point at which it was the only safe option. That was 12 months ago now and all I can say is that although it was one of the hardest decisions we have ever had to make we are 100% certain that there is no other care home that would/could have offered our mum more genuine love and care. What makes Abbey Wood Lodge so special is the manager and all of the staff..we can't say enough..incredible..and we will forever be in their debt for everything they have done for our mum (and ourselves) at this very difficult time in all our lives.
