From the outside and ground floor this place looks gorgeous HOWEVER when you go onto the 1st floor where My dad was for 2 month which is an assessment floor. It was awful, the smell of urine was soo bad we would take a deep breath before we came through the doors. Staff just left my dad to himself so he became extremely agitated and restless and constantly trying to get out (this didnt happen when he went to a new home). His legs became swollen and infected. His bedding was very thin and i feel gave him rashes on his legs and arms. The majority of the staff were not very friendly and if we asked questions about my dad it felt like we were inconveniencing them. Those on this floor dont have access to the activities in the home. The lost property is a joke too as staff didnt actively search for clothing that went missing. This place in my very honest opinion is absolutely awful it needs the carpet removing, the staff need retraining and need to make family members feel more at ease.
We hold ourselves to a very high standard at Care UK and we are deeply saddened to read that this was not your experience....
The facilities and activities at the care home are excellent and the team there make sure the residents know what is going on and have the option to join in.
The location is lovely and the grounds are well maintained.
Recently there was a special Mother's Day event to which family members were invited. It was a lovely afternoon and much thought and preparation had gone into the event.
I'm confident my mum is in safe hands, well looked after and has many activities available for her to enjoy
Here at Abney Court we do everything we can to ensure our residents live fulfilled lives in a comfortable and safe environment. I hope mum continues to enjoy her time at Abney Court.
My mum has been a resident at Abney for a couple of years and overall I'm very pleased with her care there. The home environment is very pleasant and some recent decorative improvements have made it even better for the residents. The staff are good and try to make it a caring and warm place for all the residents to live with dignity. There's a wide range of daily activities and mum really enjoys taking part in these. Food and drink are of a high standard and there's a nice dining area for people to spend time in. Overall I'd definitely recommend as somewhere you can feel confident your loved ones will be cared for when they can no longer live independently.
Thank you very much for taking the time to give us feedback. I'm pleased to hear that mum is enjoying her time here at Abney Court.
All in all a very successful occasion.
With grateful thanks
Thanks for your feedback. It was a pleasure hosting the Mothers Day afternoon tea and I'm glad that you and mum enjoyed it.
Mum has happily settled into her new home thanks to the kindness, patience and support of all the staff at Abney Court. Mum enjoys the activities, particularly the exercise classes. The lifestyle team make sure mum knows what is happening and can get involved. Lisa from the team will take mum for a walk when the weather is fine - she enjoys that. I visit regularly and always feel welcome. The staff on the Gladstone Suite know mum well and are very kind. Mum said to me the other day 'I'm so glad we found this place, its very good'/ I'm glad too, mum is so well cared for, and happy here.
Thank you so much for your feedback. I'm glad to hear that mum has settled at Abney Court and she is enjoying her time here with us.
I have been very impressed by all the staff, they seem to have a very happy environment, which to my mind can only enhance the quality of care given to the residents. I like also the many activities that are on offer to all the residents. I cannot really say anything else because I really, really rate Abney Hall, may you continue for years to come.
My friend and neighbour became a resident in January 2025 following a number of falls and injuries at home. She feels very happy and safe here and I have observed the high standards of care provided by everyone. Thank you.

Our visits are fantastic experiences for all - the children and the residents love working together and have a great time chatting about things as they complete the activities together.
The friendly staff welcome us every time and always put such effort into planning fun things for the residents to enjoy - we always leave them with smiles on their faces, and smiles are on our faces, too!

My Mum has been a resident at Abney Court for 16 months. It was a very difficult decision for her to move in at the time, but the care staff were so caring it made the transition easier than we thought. The activity circular was crucial for Mum as she is enthusiastic to be part of a community to continue to learn new skills-Thai Chi, French and Yoga have been a huge hit! The Leadership Team is excellent, they are present and approachable, any issues (which are rare) are readily resolved.

What an amazing VE Day celebration. The team have gone to so much effort to make this a special event for the residents. The afternoon tea table and the orchard lounge look wonderful. This will bring back so many memories. Well done to the whole team. Once again you've gone over and beyond.

The exact amount of medication was handed in on arrival. At the end of the stay unused medication was handed back showing that on a number of days the medication was not administered. Both eye drops and blood thinners. His left foot was very swollen and our attention on pick up was not drawn to this.

My dad arrived at Abney Court in November after multiple visits to the hospital. The move went well with management and care staff making this possible. Any queries or issues have been addressed and the care staff have approached me and my sisters to notify us of any concerns they have had with my dad's care.

Thanks to Abney Court Care Home for allowing our family to host my dad's 93rd birthday party so he could spend it with his wife, a celebration that always took place when my mum was still living at home. The gathering was filled with love, laughter and cherished memories. It is the moments like these that remind us of the warmth of family and the joy of being together. This makes such a difference to my mum and dad as she navigates her journey with dementia. The family are truly grateful for the support you show every day.
Thank you so much for your feedback. Here at Abney Court we welcome the family to continue to celebrate special occasions with their loved ones. I'm glad you enjoyed the party!
Beautiful place. Very clean and comfortable. Great garden. Warm and welcoming.
We had to buy a new pair of glasses which are not cheap and continually have to replace socks.
Otherwise I have no complaints.
Thanks so very much for your 5-star review of Abney Court and your positive feedback about the care team here. We were sad to learn that the glasses have been lost and we are making every effort to locate them. On the dementia floor personal items can often be picked up and moved by other...
I would always recommend Abney Court as a safe caring environment for your loved one.
The carers were amazing they looked after him with love care and attention. My Dad had his favourite and they knew it, they made him smile every day till the end and kissed and gave him hugs. He was comfortable and happy till the end. They're all amazing.

Thank you for your time and we look forward to hearing from you. Many thanks the Care UK team.
I find the staff very helpful and professional. There are many activities and visiting entertainers. This all makes my partner as comfortable as she can be considering her condition. On-site car park occasionally quite full but nearby parking is available. The coffee lounge particularly good when visiting with friends and relatives.

The carers on the other hand were very kind and considerate. It was the floor manager and floor manager's assistant and the entertainment manager were very rude and really could not care less for our concerns. If you were sent to Abney Court from hospital, you were treated differently to the regular clients. We ended up hating the place at the end of Mother's stay there.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We are pleased to hear of your positive experience with our dedicated care team, however we are disappointed to hear of your experience with our Suite Management and Lifestyle teams. We would like to reassure you and others that every member of...

Meet the Team (1)

I began my career in care as a Care Assistant, and with support and encouragement from my managers, I’ve worked my way up to Team Leader, then Discharge Coordinator, then Deputy Manager and now Home Manager. I’m preparing to do my Level 5 qualification to further build on my skills.
I joined Care UK because of its strong reputation and the support and opportunities it offers for progression.
To do this role well, you need strong communication skills, the ability to see the bigger picture, and a calm, solution-focused mindset. The most important part of my role is overseeing all aspects of care and making sure every resident receives the highest standard of support.
A career highlight for me has been achieving my current position. The most rewarding part of my role is that I get to make a real difference to the lives of Abney Court residents every day.
Outside of work, I enjoy listening to music and spending time with my family and friends.
