Our review actually begins from when dad came to Prince George house way back in October ‘22.
We feel he is receiving the best level of care that he has ever had and wish for it to continue. The staff are always responsive and show real people skills when it comes to it and is most needed. We feel
very confident in Care UK that the service on offer is really very good indeed. The whole place seems to operate like a huge well oiled (and I will like to add organised) machine with all levels of staff doing their utmost to carry out their responsibilities - and still have time to check in with you to see how everyone is and how everything is going - just amazing being able to witness first hand something so harmonious in operation. Please don’t change you really are doing such a great job and long may it continue. Absolutely worth a five star rating across the board.

Following a fall, my father aged 91, on advice from professionals, needed full time residential care. The experience we have received from everyone at Prince George House has been first class. We are always informed of any issues and my father, considering his condition, seems happy. Highly recommended.

Always a warm welcome. Staff are aware of my brother's history/current needs. He speaks of how good the staff and the food are. Visitors are very welcome.
I can leave Prince George House knowing he is well cared for.

I rated food and drinks as poor because some time I noticed that patients can go for long periods of time without being given a drink because carers are too busy.
Rooms were rated poorly because a drawer in my wife’s room has a door missing for over three weeks with no repair. A rubbish bin was missing
for three days. I talked with the cleaning lady and she was able to replace it. Now the serving desk (the table she eats from) has gone missing.
Reply from Samantha Debenham, Reviews Team at Prince George HouseWe appreciate you taking the time to feedback about your wife’s experience at Prince George House, although we are saddened and surprised to hear of your comments surrounding mealtimes and the moving of furniture. Residents are provided with a selection of nutritious meals at breakfast, lunch and dinner times, whilst our snacking stations are well stocked throughout the day. Our care team also keep a record of resident hydration levels as part of a comprehensive care plan. We encourage residents and their families to flag any maintenance issues to our maintenance team, as they are dedicated to ensuring our facilities are always well-kept and in full working order. This includes items of furniture that need replacing or installing, so every resident has everything they need without inconvenience.

The staff are fab. Always there to support both my mum and myself when I come to visit. They are caring and kind. Recently we requested a Christmas lunch for my mum and my family and they pushed the boat out, giving us a private room and a lovely 3 course Christmas dinner. We even brought our pet dog
along for Mum to cuddle!

All of the staff are warm and friendly and take excellent care of mum. They encourage her to participate in the many great activities provided. Also they have taken the time to know what food she likes so that she has a choice of meals that she likes whilst maintaining a balanced diet. The on-site hairdressing
and nail care is excellent as is the health care when needed. Mum's room is kept clean. She is very happy in Prince George House and I feel welcome when visiting her there.

Be very aware that this 'Care' Home is tragically totally unsuitable for respite. (I note remarks made 4 years ago by someone, which almost mirrors our experience recently). Since I continue to be in 'dispute' with the owners, following their 'review' of my wife's very unhappy few day's stay there,
I will say no more at this stage. All I ever wanted was a full, and immediate apology*. As it is, 3 months later; I have had to 'drag' a very half-hearted partial 'apology' out of anyone in authority. When I finally managed to prise my wife out, and home in July; she spent the next few weeks asking me every morning - "Can I stay with you?" Suffice it to say, it took both of us weeks to get over the intense trauma they needlessly inflicted upon us. Look out for more in local and national media - unless finally, someone soon sends us the apologetic * letter we fully deserved in the first place.

I found all carers and staff to be caring, kind and fond of Mum. However, certain requests for Mum's needs were not carried out. Senior staff I found hard to approach for information as always too busy.
Mum's spectacles have been missing for about three to four weeks and don't feel much effort has
been taken to find them.
Reply from Samantha Debenham, Personal Assistant at Prince George HouseThank you for taking the time out to review Prince George House and for sharing this constructive feedback, we are always looking at ways we can improve the service we offer.
We are delighted to hear your comments regarding our caring and kind team and for rating your overall experience 4 stars. The point you have raised regarding senior staff, we just want to reassure you the senior team are always available for relatives, whether that’s in person or over the phone. We always encourage relatives to speak directly with the Home Manager if there are any concerns so that we can address them immediately. The Home Manager will be available should you need to discuss any further concerns.

Overall I and my family are satisfied that our loved one is being cared for and stimulated and treated with dignity. All the staff we have encountered on the suite are cheerful, friendly and respectful towards my wife and us as her wider family and are clearly very hardworking. It's a pity there aren't
another 2 (or even 3!) members of staff for each shift to share the world loads, but also to enable residents more time with one-on-one. Someone to sit and chat with, to have a cup of tea with or a little stroll around the garden.
Reply from Samantha Debenham, Personal Assistant at Prince George HouseThank you for taking the time to write a review for Prince George House – we value all positive and negative feedback that will help us to ensure we are always improving the service we offer to residents. At Care UK, we pride ourselves on the care we provide and on our approach to fulfilling lives with daily activities.
We are pleased to report that your wife loves getting involved in the group activities at Prince George House and has a great relationship with our lifestyle team. We have a dedicated lifestyle team which focuses on both 1-2-1 time and group activities. At Prince George House we have good staffing levels within this team and this is something we constantly review to ensure we are offering a premium service.

My father was admitted to Prince George House last year after a sudden illness. Having never been away from my mother and his home in 65 years he was obviously very anxious. The staff were so very kind and welcomed him into the home. Dad soon realised that he was very well cared for and that he could
ask for assistance at any time. He enjoyed mealtimes in the dining area where he soon made friends and also enjoyed socialising with the lovely staff. All staff were so very helpful. Nothing appeared to be too much trouble. When hospitalised towards the end of his life his wish was to be returned to Prince George as soon as possible where he knew he would be treated with love and respect. Close family members were able to visit and be with him when he passed away. For this we were truly grateful, it meant so much to us to be by his side. The staff are wonderful. Thank you to all the staff. It was a pleasure to know you all and heartfelt thanks for all you did for Dad.

The care home is excellent for all reasons especially care given to clients by staff. Every care is taken to ensure residents have a comfortable life and provide interesting activities while residents are invited to attend if they wish. Have found telephone reception and general staff extremely kind
and helpful. They are very understanding of situations and go out of their way to give advice if needed.

I cannot recommend Prince George House enough. My husband going into residential care was the hardest decision of my life but found the reception and admin staff are always cheerful and helpful. The rooms are lovely and very clean. The nursing is excellent, and the carers are absolutely brilliant. There
are always activities, entertainers and sing-a-longs to keep residents stay cheerful and active. Thank you, everyone, for making a heartbreaking decision more bearable.

Could be better communication with the family if the resident is getting short of items. Could do repairs quicker (e.g. emergency cord in the toilet/bathroom).

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.806)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.806) out of 10 for Prince George House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 22 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.806 for Prince George House is calculated as follows: ( (235 Excellents x 5) + (12 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) + (8 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 258 Ratings = 4.806
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Prince George House is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 80 registered maximum number of service users is 16, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

I joined Care UK in 2015 after achieving my nursing qualification in Romania and working there as a Nurse.

I was looking for a new challenge and decided to apply for a nursing job in the UK. Care UK was recommended to me, and I’ve been here for the past eight years.

Moving to the UK and succeeding in my role in a completely new health system has been the biggest professional challenge in my career. I’ve risen the ranks, starting as a nurse and moving from Clinical Lead to Deputy Manager and now Home Manager.

To do this job well, it’s important to be caring and compassionate, have effective communication skills, problem-solving skills, leadership and resilience. My favourite part of the working day is when I feel that I’ve made a positive difference in someone’s life. I aim to do the best I can to fulfil my job role while practising kindness.

Since I moved to the UK, the residents at Prince George's House and my colleagues have become my second family, and I love and value them all as much as my own family.

When I’m not working, I like to chat with my son and his family who live in Romania. I also unwind by reading, listening to music, playing training programmes to improve my language skills, watching films, and travelling.
