I have volunteered at Cavell Court for some time and find the staff helpful and engaged. The residents appreciate the activities and events that are put on and enjoy taking part. We chat about films and music from their heyday and create activities based on these memories. The rooms are clean and decorated well, including the communal spaces, which are airy and light.

Since my mother moved into Cavell Court in July 2020 she has been made to feel very welcome and as a result, has quickly settled in. She has been engaged with a variety of different activities and benefitted from high levels of interaction with staff and other residents. Overall, so far, we are happy that she is being well looked after and cared for.

Cavell Court is a lovely care home that has dealt with and is dealing with the Covid crisis amazingly. They have protected the residents so that the home is Covid free whilst continuing to provide care and activities for the residents. In general, the staff are very friendly and they obviously care about the residents in the home. I came to the home with no experience and all the staff were patient and very kind to me. I love coming to the care home every day.

As part of my role as a Community Pioneer with St. Peter's Church in Cringleford and the Cringleford Hub, I am a regular visitor to Cavell Court. As a team, we offer a monthly Church service in the Cavell Court cinema room where we usually sing hymns, have a bible reading and a short reflection on it, with sharing communion and followed by a drink and a chat. We work very closely with the Lead Lifestyle Co-ordinator at Cavell Court, and her energetic co-workers to support the spiritual needs of the residents. Cavel Court also have a great track record for engagement with the wider community. Through generosity and hospitality, they have hosted our local baby and toddler group where Cringleford's youngest residents meet it's oldest, which is fun. In my dealings with the team at Cavell court, they consistently come across as warm, encouraging and upbeat. I often say to people that if I had to live in a care home when I get older, I hope it'll be somewhere like Cavell Court.

You all looked after Mum so well and under such tough conditions; Covid-19 must make your jobs so hard, as for residents.
Particularly at the end, the genuine caring approach of your staff moved my brother and me so much.

I am unable to put into words how difficult it is for a son to pass principle care of one's frail, precious mother over to 'unknown' others, and how grateful I am for your tenderness, professionalism (when doing all those very personal jobs that she needed your help with) and smiles of care and understanding when we came for those last few days. Can I also pass on my heartfelt thanks for the lovely card and condolences sent by all who cared for her in the 3 months she was with you. Know I am grateful to you.

I am very happy with the standard of care my father has received since moving into Cavell Court in December. The staff are lovely and obviously care for all the residents. There is a wide variety of activities for the residents to do if they choose. The food is tasty and varied; my father is definitely eating better since he moved in. There were some communication issues at first between the home and myself, but these has now been resolved to my satisfaction. The home feels airy and light; a real home from home and is kept very clean. I always feel welcomed when I visit and my father is happy and well looked after.

Overall care was fine and the care staff were friendly and efficient. The management team, however, we hardly ever saw and did not engage with us other than to secure payment of respite stay. On the morning that we arrived to take our aunt back to her home, the only person we spoke to was a member of the care team who handed over medication with no explanation of when meds should be taken. Her discharge from the home was a very cold affair. One of our main concerns during the respite period was that on occasions, the decorator's dog was allowed to roam and run around at will and on one occasion bounded into our aunt's room and jumped all over the bed. We had our three-year-old granddaughter with us and the dog ran in so excitedly that our granddaughter was nearly knocked over. Had this been an elderly resident, the dog could easily have caused them to have a fall which we felt was worrying. We appreciated the care given so that our aunt felt well enough to return home again.

This is a bright, cheerful place, which has a hotel feel in many respects but is also comfortable and welcoming. I visited a few places before deciding on this home, which ticked a lot of our boxes. I particularly like the fact that it caters for everybody from the dementia-free through to those requiring nursing care, which means that as my mother’s condition deteriorates, I won’t have to move her to another home. It is also in a convenient location, handy for friends and relatives to visit. We were also lucky in that two rooms were available, meaning that both my mother and step-father could move in together, which is great for them. The food seems excellent, and my mother has not once complained of feeling hungry. Indeed, the chocolate she ate voraciously at home is now untouched in her drawer! I am particularly impressed by the staff, as so far all have been warm, friendly and understanding when issues arise. I feel I can talk to anyone and get a helpful response.

My friend came to Cavell Court in December 2019, initially for four weeks of respite care. He seems to have settled in well and welcomes having three meals provided every day plus help from the staff and no washing or cleaning to worry about.

The staff are very friendly to visitors and keep me well informed and there are good common rooms available to spend time with the person living at Cavell Court.

My husband was very happy at Cavell Court, although he deteriorated rapidly in the last 5 days of his life, he was very well looked after by all the staff. I cannot fault the care we received, as I too was looked after and able to stay with my husband until his death. The staff were amazing, I couldn't have asked for more.

Our Mum has lived at Cavell Court for nearly two years. During this time, and especially as her care needs increased, the team on the ground floor looked after her with diligence, compassion, respect and love. We are so thankful to them all. We felt cared for during the last difficult weeks and will not forget their kindness.

All the staff are friendly and kind and my husband is happy. The laundry service needs help and is not big enough for the number of patients. Machinery is always breaking down, not fair on the laundry staff. Always chasing clothes for my husband.

I cannot express enough my gratitude to the staff and especially the careers on The Goodwin Suite. Despite their day to day challenges, in my experience, they go above and beyond to care for their residents. They provide a safe environment, a listening ear, wonderful care and laughter often is heard throughout the suite.
It is not easy to have to place a loved one in residential care, in fact, it is heartbreaking. Knowing my mum is so well cared for and treated with respect and genuine fondness has given my family peace.

My mum has just had a birthday and one of the carers came in especially on her day off bringing flowers and chocolates to help celebrate her birthday. A sample of the care I have witnessed.

Everything about the service and care is excellent.
The premises are superbly maintained and presented. The staff are all efficient, approachable and caring. Everyone genuinely appears to have a real passion for the people and the job as a whole.
I have in the short time that my mother has been resident noticed that already the staff are aware of her particular likes, dislikes and restrictions.

If I am ever in a similar situation I hope that I can find a place as great as Cavell Court for my care.

My mum stayed in Cavell Court for nearly two years before she died. She had always been clear that she didn't want to spend any time in any care home, but her failing health left us with no other option. Despite her reservations about going to Cavell Court, she found comfort and happiness there which I really don't think she had expected. The fact that the building is relatively new and brightly furnished undoubtedly helped. However, it was the quality of the care team which made all the difference to my mum. The team cared for her with professionalism, kindness, sympathy, and perhaps most importantly, a sense of humour. As a regularly visiting relative, I also found the care team a wonderful source of support and good humour.

Meet the Team (1)

Pedro Campos
Pedro CamposJob Title:Home Manager

I qualified as a Nurse in Portugal in 2010, and my first care job in the UK was for Care UK.

I left after five years to progress my career, but I decided to return because I believe in Care UK’s values and commitment to caring for residents.

Care UK is the best place I have ever worked. The support provided to colleagues is fantastic. Providing care is about being passionate and committed. As Home Manager, I believe it’s important to listen to and support residents, relatives and colleagues in the home on a day-to-day basis. I work hard to make a difference in their lives.

The safety and well-being of the residents living at Cavell Court are of the utmost importance to me, and ensuring all procedures are followed is an important part of my role. My favourite part of the day is walking around the home every morning to talk to each resident and team member.

When I’m not working, I love to spend time with my family. I enjoy time in the garden and do DIY at home.
