Overall Experience
When Mum moved into Cedrus House in October 2023 we were understandably apprehensive, but there was absolutely no need to feel that way at all. Such a welcoming, cosy home from home. Everyone is so friendly and accommodating and nothing is too much trouble. It really has been like extending our family - staff and residents alike.
Mum has mixed dementia and unable to walk but is treated with dignity and respect. There are daily activities if she wants to participate, she’s encouraged but never forced and on those occasions she doesn’t want to go or just be in her room we know that the staff regularly check and visit her for a chat or a sing-song as they know mum loves to sing! She has a beautiful big en-suite room which we could decorate how we wanted - with furniture, pictures, bed linen etc from mum’s own home.

We know Mum is totally safe and cared for 24/7 - we couldn’t wish for anything more!

My Mother has resided at Cedrus House for approximately three years. During this period she has always been treated with kindness and respect. The building is seven years old and conforms to the latest standards required for its purpose. Each room has an en-suite 'wet room' which allows easy access for wheelchairs and walking aids. A cafe, cinema room and a bar are all available within the main building. The external balcony forming part of the lounge which is accessible to my Mother has wide-ranging views over the surrounding countryside. The catering is of a high standard and three main meals are provided each day. A minibus is available on a regular basis which enables residents to be taken to a variety of local locations. The regular entertainment provided is excellent with an abundance of musical items. The music is particularly useful as it enables my mother, who has advanced Dementia, to recall songs and tunes that she is familiar with.

My husband was very apprehensive about going into respite care while I had a small operation, but we looked around and knew we chose the best for him!
It was more a five star hotel than a typical care home! He had a large en-suite room that was easily accessible for his wheelchair. The corridors were wide and had bright pictures on the walls.
There was 24/7 food if he wanted it! Three good meals a day and a cafe with 'help yourself' drinks, cakes, ice cream and sweets! Perfect for my sweet-toothed husband! There was even a pub! There were activities each day, a cinema (he took a couple of DVDs that he was allowed to screen) and a craft room.

The staff were the most caring, cheerful, 'above and beyond' people I have met! You can sense that they love their job and gel together well as a team. My husband's fears were definitely allayed and he had a very enjoyable two weeks holiday, putting my mind at rest knowing he was being cared for.

Choosing a care home for a much loved relative is a huge responsibility and the fear that you will get it wrong can be overwhelming. However much research you do, or personal recommendations you hear, it is only once they are in the home you find out whether you have made the right choice. Cedrus House is not perfect, but it is outstanding! All the staff try so hard to get it right and the management team try to solve problems as quickly as they can, meanwhile trying to implement (sometimes quite creative) solutions in the short term. Some of the small things we regularly experienced make this such a lovely home. Cleaners who don’t disturb residents who are asleep or have visitors, but happily return later unasked. Carers who work so hard and always respect the dignity of residents, by closing the net curtains and shutting the door before carrying out personal care. A wonderful nursing team who react quickly to changes in health. And finally, the cafe, such wonderful scones and cakes!

Cedrus House is a beautifully maintained modern building with fantastic facilities including a coffee shop, outside spaces, a cinema, a craft room and even a “bar area” for the occasional pub quiz but what really makes Cedrus House stand out are the staff.
All the staff members have a friendly disposition and are caring and nothing seems too much trouble for them, even when they are busy and at difficult times they continue to shine and having a full-time medical team on site is very reassuring for relatives and residents.
There are numerous activities including keep-fit classes, visiting musicians, days out to various local places of interest including fish and chips at the seaside. I know my father is well looked after, cared for and safe; he sees more friendly faces and has more social interactions than when he lived on his own.

No care home is perfect, but Cedrus House has got to be one of the best available, and the staff are fantastic.

Mum moved into Cedrus House in July 2021 and she settled well. She is very well cared for and safe 24/7. The staff are extremely caring and experienced, they update me about everything, including some of her more comical and naughty moments. Her care needs change, as her journey progresses and I am fully included. She often tells me that she really enjoys living in this hotel, as meals are lovely, laundry is done and she doesn't have to do any cleaning (that's a big plus!) A complete 'Lady of Leisure' enjoying life to the full with everything on the doorstep, cinema, hairdresser, cafe and garden, with a mixture of activities including crafting, music, singing, regular sport, exercise and of course wonderful outings. Extended family have visited Mum in the home and are so impressed with the facilities and level of care, that they are now looking at Care UK homes in their area for loved ones. It's a big thank you to all staff who care for Mum as it gives me peace of mind too.

Dad was happy and relaxed from the moment he moved in. He remarked that it was like being on holiday in a posh hotel.
The staff were very attentive and always there to help answer the many questions we asked. Everyone helped us all to adjust to Dad being there with the support and care required.
Mealtimes were always entertaining and members of the family were always welcome to stay.
Everyone working there knew us and always had time to talk, the coffee shop was a nice place to go for a change of scenery.

The security on the suite was secure and we felt Dad was safe, we had no worries when we left him.

The support and care my father received were outstanding. The moment we initially visited Cedrus House Care Home we felt welcomed and supported in making the difficult decision. My father quickly settled in and it became his home. He was very happy and was given the best care and love, it was the best decision we made.

My greeting on arrival was unparalleled and has continued. Everyone is so kind and helpful. Yesterday I went on a trip in a minibus with two other ladies where we laid flowers from the late Queen Elizabeth. A great trip and so much fresh air.

Great, professional service from the team at Cedrus House Care Home. A warm welcome was received by my 94-year young father, and he enjoyed his two-week respite stay. He was well looked after, and it was a relief to us all when he came out smiling saying he had enjoyed his ‘holiday’.

My sister has been a resident in Cedrus House for almost three months. The initial assessment and preparations prior to her taking up residency were made very easy as a result of the excellent information given in a Zoom chat plus the office staff providing answers to our queries. My sister has gained weight due to the excellent food on offer and has very quickly settled into life as a resident. Prior to entry my sister suffered several falls at home and was unable to recover herself. If she gets into problems now we are much happier with the knowledge that help is on hand 24/7. When my sister took ownership of a new mobile phone staff from the office and some of the carers assisted my sister in becoming familiar with its operation as this was all new to her. The Cedrus House staff go the extra mile to ensure all of my sister's needs are catered to.

Earlier in the year, my auntie was diagnosed with motor neurone disease and as she was living alone our family became concerned when she started to have falls at home as her MND became worse. So the task of finding a care home began and we started the search for a suitable care home, something which I had never had to do before and was all very new to me. I have to say from the very first contact with Cedrus House I have been very impressed with the professional way they have provided us with the information required, put together a Zoom guided tour package and answered numerous questions and emails to help us make the decision to move my auntie into their care, as they were way ahead of any other care homes I had engaged with. The staff on the Finborough Suite have been fantastic in the way they have looked after my auntie and sorted out all her health and care needs so swiftly. I would thoroughly recommend Cedrus House, a big thank you to all the staff for all their hard work.

Claire MartinJob Title Home Manager

I’ve worked for Care UK for nearly a decade now. Before joining the organisation, I was a laboratory technician and a registered childminder. When I was looking for a new challenge, I heard great things about Care UK and how its people were supported to develop. That’s certainly been my experience. I started as a carer and have worked my way up.

I previously worked as Home Manager at Hartismere Place, where I saw the home grow and flourish. I’m now excited to have joined Cedrus and to bring that experience with me, building on strong foundations and continuing to enhance what we do and what we offer to residents.

I love walking around the home and having lovely interactions with the residents. They make my day, as do the great colleagues I work alongside. There’s always a lot of laughter at Cedrus House, which creates a great atmosphere.

Outside of work, I’m a keen biker; my husband and I ride all over East Anglia. I also enjoy gardening, spending time with my family, and socialising with friends.
