I had a particularly difficult situation, being the only relation of my uncle, him being incapacitated by a stroke and me not holding a Power of Attorney, in large part due to not seeing my uncle through the Covid period. This made aspects of being confident we could access funds to pay for care and on being able to sign a residency agreement 'challenging', but, nothing would stop the quite wonderful staff at Hartismere. Absolutely nothing was too much trouble. These were just 'some challenges' to work through together, and we did indeed, work through them.
But, having moved my uncle into Hartismere, things have just continued to get better and better. The degree of care and real personal interest in his well-being is just wonderful. Everyone is so extremely helpful and cheerful. Even the kitchen staff know me and address me by name.

But it doesn't stop here. The degree of activities and outings the home arranges is nothing short of miraculous. The most wonderful people and place.

The ambience of Hartismere Place is exceptional - every member of staff is a carer, no matter their specific role! My wife and her fellow residents on 'Oak Suite' have Dementia, but the atmosphere is always happy and contented, some achievement given the challenges presented. For my part and that of all the residents' relatives I've spoken to whilst we might have minor gripes on relatively trivial matters, the all-important practical and supportive care our relatives receive is second to none!

My great aunt has been a resident at Hartismere for almost 18 months and I've noticed such a positive transformation in her general health and happiness. She loves living there and values that she can enjoy alone time as well as socialising as much as she wants. She loves visiting the 'airy cafe' space which overlooks the garden, has such a lovely social atmosphere and always a stock of yummy cakes!.
The staff are simply amazing and have built such a close relationship with her. She loves their humour and sense of happiness. They are touchingly tender and loving towards her; it means so much to our family that she is so well cared for, valued and treated with so much dignity and kindness. I've developed a great relationship with the staff which means we can openly discuss my great aunt's needs as they evolve and the monthly reviews allow us to make adjustments to increase the support she needs when she needs it.

She is always well-kempt, her room and laundry always clean.

My mum was visiting the care home for two weeks and although she decided not to stay my family could not fault any aspect of the care she received while she was there. I was really impressed with the attention to detail and the fact that despite only being on a two-week visit everyone knew her name. She received a card and welcome rose plant on arriving at her room. The food was faultless and the entertainment and activities were varied and well thought out.

Clean, tidy and welcoming every time we visited. Always a 'busy' and harmonious vibe throughout the building. Staff always had time to discuss and answer any queries relating to Mum's care or situation. Activities are numerous and very varied with something suitable for everyone, even though Mum would need us to 'persuade' her to participate. The food is good with a lovely downstairs cafe environment, not to mention an endless supply of home-cooked treats! Staff is always on hand and attentive, something you will appreciate if you've experienced a stay in an NHS hospital recently! Overall a safe and secure environment with a wealth of experienced staff running it. No complaints other than the occasional lack of parking spaces in the car park at peak times.

This is an abridged letter of thanks I wrote to the Hartismere shortly after Dad died.
"We felt as though we must write and thank you for all the care and attention you gave to Dad since he moved to Hartismere Place during February 2023. Yours was the third home we had visited and when we arrived we immediately liked the vibe and atmosphere, something missing from the other places it seemed. Everyone we met seemed interested.
During his stay we took a lot of confidence from your experience, professionalism and reassurance. I knew Dad would be looked after, he was in a safe place and he would be cared for and that was so important to the whole family.
His move to Hartismere also meant he saw much more of his family than was otherwise likely and he became a member of a new family centred on his suite."

Kind, caring, compassionate, human. That's the simple summary.

It's not easy to make a complete change of lifestyle and circumstance. I have been helped to do this by the caring, supportive and secure atmosphere that I find here. Personal independence is encouraged with help available if needed. The food is good, varied and nutritious and attention paid to personal preferences. In fine weather, we can enjoy the garden, whether on foot or in a wheelchair. We may go on trips to garden centres. Nobody likes being old but I am very content to be here and get new friends.

I was very worried that my friend/neighbour was not, despite help, safe or coping at home. Now she is at Hartismere Care Home all my worries have gone as she is thriving surrounded by love and care.
I visit weekly and from the start have been greeted warmly. The care home is full of life with an infectious, happy atmosphere. All the staff are professional but always so attentive, supportive, kind and helpful, nothing is too much trouble.
My friend receives outstanding support for all aspects of her life, but I particularly notice her personal care. She is always well dressed and nicely groomed which is so important. The facilities including her room are great and it is always lovely and warm. The activities, including the special event days, always look fun and I enjoyed participating in the exercise class! The food is always homemade and looks delicious.

Quite often I leave not feeling sad but with happiness, as my friend is smiling and I know she is safe in such a great home.

My father has been at Hartismere Place for 7 months now. The staff are second to none, caring, hands-on and helpful. Nothing is ever too much trouble and my father has settled in superbly and has made some great friends since living there. I'd like to focus on the kitchen staff at Hartismere Place, wow what a team. The head chef goes out of his way to help with any dietary needs of the residents. He has been especially attentive to my father who needed some soft food textures after some dental work and more recently some dietary needs prior to some hospital tests. He often treats the residents with any little requests and goes out of his way to surprise them with foods or drinks he knows they like. Well done to the head chef and the kitchen staff who work tirelessly for the residents providing them with both nutritious and tasty meals.

After breaking her hip in May, I had to make the very difficult decision of finding my 95-year-old auntie a care home. Having had some upsetting incidents in the past, I was adamant I was going to do my homework and find her the best!
I certainly did that. The whole team are attentive and genuinely care. The activities and food are great. It feels like a hotel, not a care home!
My auntie is thriving and many people comment on her looking the best she has looked in years. The real turning point was when she had to have a hospital visit and on her return said “I am so glad to be back here."
When she lived alone at home she was lonely. She’s certainly not that anymore.

Thank you to the whole team for making my auntie’s latter years the best they can possibly be.

My dad had to move to a care home as his physical needs had become too much for us to handle at home, which was causing a lot of stress within the family. Dad was cared for with great professionalism, respect and kindness so that the inevitable indignities of old age seemed to melt away and all his four children and four grandchildren were able to visit and enjoy his company in the last four months of his long life. There is a great atmosphere at the home with lots going on that the residents can participate in, all the staff even the kitchen and maintenance staff know the residents by name and will take the time to stop to chat and brighten someone's day. We all felt that dad was part of a lovely community and that we were also made extremely welcome. We liked the fact that we could visit at any time so everything was very open, the managers at every level were always happy to discuss any issues or concerns.

My mum stayed at the home for two weeks of respite care. What a fantastic stay she had. The staff were cheerful, kind and caring. The home went to great lengths to ensure they fully understood Mum's needs. Spotlessly clean and with great facilities. Mum very much enjoyed her stay and could not speak highly enough of how well she was looked after. I have no hesitation in recommending the home to anyone.

Father-in-law was very well cared for. Carers understood his requirements. Treated with dignity and respect.
His room was not very large and think that the shower didn’t always work.
It would have been a great help if someone could have told us about claiming attendance allowance.

The garden by the coffee area was very disappointing.

I’ve been with Care UK since December 2012. I actually transferred from working for Suffolk County Council when the home I was in was taken over by Care UK. I liked the values and support network that Care UK provides. I

I love seeing the differences – large and small – that our team makes to residents’ lives simply by building up relationships with them and their families. Each of us takes huge pride in making Hartismere Place a caring and supportive home with a family atmosphere, and I think it shows.
