My brother and I came to look round here in November and were impressed with the care home and friendly environment. The manager explained things and how it all works in a clear manner.
When my uncle arrived, he soon felt at home, and he decided to stay quite quickly. Everyone is helpful. It is good
that he has 24-hour care.

I find the home to be acceptable, but the overall rating could be better if a few organisational details were taken care of. e.g. the home uses a rather large number of agency staff. Often it is their first visit and they have minimal knowledge of the residents' requirements and the procedures within
the home. They don't offer the same level of service as that provided by many of the permanent staff. This applies particularly to the provision of medication - often late even when it's a timed dose and sometimes the wrong medication is offered. The home could also supply more information to residents - e.g. who is responsible for what task/event etc. I have used satisfactory rather than good for most of the sections because staff often don't have sufficient time to take their efforts to the next level. Not sure if this due to organisational failures or lack of staff.

The care given to my mother over the last three and a half years has been exemplary. Throughout her time at Hartismere Place, she has been treated with nothing but affection, care and respect. With her passing, I can do no more than give the highest praise for the wonderful care, for her and for us,
her family.

The staff here are generally very good and helpful but feel that some of the agency people not so much so. The food is not entirely to my taste, although generally alternatives can be provided. I feel it would be better if the menu was more basic with less use of herbs, spices and some sauces etc.
Reply from Samantha Debenham, Personal Assistant at Hartismere PlaceWe’re grateful for your feedback and are delighted with the positive comments and scores for the care and support we provide. We are sorry to hear that the food offering has not always met your expectations. I understand that our head chef has now meet with you to discuss your personal preferences and will continue to ensure there is something on the menu every day to suit your requirements. We take great care in our menu planning, taking feedback from residents, relatives and staff, to offer a variety choice that suits all residents tastes. We appreciate not everyone enjoys herbs and spices and we, therefore, ensure our sauces are served separately so that residents can choose how much or little they would like with their meal. We’d also like to assure you that continuity of care is important to us and we endeavour to use as little agency staff as possible, although there are occasions when this is unavoidable. Your constructive feedback is important to us and we have passed your comments to the home manager. Thank you again for taking the time to leave us a review.

I think the activities are excellent and it is lovely to see residents going out in the minibus for trips and lunches out.

The majority of staff are friendly and it is nice to see them speak to the residents, not just attend to their needs.

It was disappointing to see so many unfamiliar carers

in 'Oak' this month, dementia residents need familiar faces not lots of changes/temp staff.
Reply from Amy Wilson, AD at Hartismere PlaceWe’re grateful for your feedback and are delighted with the positive comments around our activities and trips out. Regarding your comments on our team, we use a key core team on Oak suite, so that residents see familiar faces every day. We also rotate staff through the unit as part of their induction and development and this helps to ensure that a number of staff within the home are familiar with the residents. As a guide, we have four members of staff on Oak and would never assign more than one carer who is not familiar with the unit on at any one time. On the day shift, we used no temporary staff on Oak during July. I would like to assure you we do a full dependency analysis for each resident which is used to plan staff deployment accordingly to make sure care is safe and appropriate for each resident’s needs, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

My sister and I have been more than pleased with the excellent standard of care and compassion received by my father during his stay and to us when visiting the home. Nothing was ever to much trouble, lots of lovely friendly staff made us all feel like it was home from home for our dad. This was just
respite care but dad is very happy to return again when we next need some respite. We all thoroughly recommend Hartismere Place.

My mum receives excellent care at Hartismere Place. She has been a resident there for over two years and I can honestly say that I am very pleased with how she has been looked after. The staff have all been wonderful to mum, from the care staff to the cleaners, the activity ladies and the kitchen staff.
The home has a lovely relaxed feeling, it is more like a very nice boutique hotel with a coffee shop, hairdressers, general shop and small dining rooms. The food is very good indeed, my mum is quite picky and she really enjoys her meals.

Management of the home has also improved in the last 8 months, it feels to me that the staff are valued as well as the residents which is as it should be.

All in all, I am very happy with my mum's care - we are very lucky that we can relax in the knowledge that mum is in a safe and happy place.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.808)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.808) out of 10 for Hartismere Place is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 27 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.808 for Hartismere Place is calculated as follows: ( (262 Excellents x 5) + (52 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 318 Ratings = 4.808
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hartismere Place is based on 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 27 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2022

I’ve worked for Care UK for nearly a decade now. Before joining the organisation I was a laboratory technician and a registered childminder. When I was looking for a new challenge, I heard great things about Care UK and how its people were supported to develop. That’s certainly been my experience. I started as a carer and have worked my way up.

I’ve been at Hartismere Place since 2018 as Deputy Manager, so I know everyone here very well. I’ve seen the home grow and flourish, but there’s always more we can do to improve how we work and what we offer to residents, and I’m looking forward to continuing to enhance what we do.

I love walking around the home and having lovely interactions with the residents. They make my day, as do the great colleagues I work alongside. There’s always a lot of laughter at Hartismere Place, which creates a great atmosphere.

Outside of work, I’m a keen biker, my husband and I ride all over East Anglia. I also enjoy gardening, spending time with my family, and socialising with friends.
