Derby Heights is a superbly appointed, brand new residential home which is setting a new standard for care of the elderly and dementia patients. All residents have spacious, immaculate bedrooms with en-suite facilities. There are many attractive communal/lounges and dining areas in addition to private dining rooms and a cinema room. The grounds are attractively landscaped. There is a well organised programme of activities, ranging from professional singers to gardening. The staff are exceptionally caring and helpful. The individual care needs of each residents are effectively addressed and as carers and residents and their family get to know each other the home will go from strength to strength.

When we first saw Derby Heights we were amazed that it didn't cost substantially more than other homes as its appearance and facilities surpassed any others we had seen. During the 7 months my dad lived at Derby Heights the staff were always exceptionally friendly, welcoming and supportive to my both my dad and all the family. They gave exceptional care to my dad in the final weeks of his life, adapting to his changing dietary and physical needs, but they were equally supportive to myself and other family members during those difficult times.

Their level of care was highlighted by their support following his passing and the attendance of several members of staff at his funeral. The staff treated my father with love and respect and it always felt more like visiting him at his home than in a care home; we all felt part of the family there. We were always offered food, refreshments and were welcome to sit in the comfortable lounge with the residents and join in with activities if we wanted to.

I enjoyed my eight days stay at Derby Heights Care Home very much indeed, it would have been good to stay longer. Just one comment- we felt that there was rather a lack of serving staff at breakfast, putting pressure on those who were on duty but they did their best and we were happy to be patient. Also, I enjoy traditionally cooked food and I found a little too much sauce/oil however just my taste! I also need gluten-free food and I was very well catered for in that way. I should be very happy to stay at Derby Heights Care Home again in the future. Thank you!

Having read many disgusting stories concerning care homes, I said a definite NO!! when my daughter and son-in-law said they had booked a holiday and would I mind staying in Derby Heights. They had already viewed and taken me to see if I would be happy. I relented immediately and enjoyed my stay.
My first impression apart from the magnificent interior of the building was the attention from all the staff. They obviously enjoy their work and are a credit to the company. No if's or but's, just certainty. They will bring whatever you require to your room.
No disgusting stories from Derby Heights!

I am looking forward to my stay in August.

Overall standard very good. Staff very helpful but they could do with more help especially at night. I have been unable to use some of the facilities so cannot comment. Food very poor. Lukewarm, and cold plates. Meals would be better served directly from the kitchen instead of from serving trolley which does not keep food hot. If the menu was better the likelihood of recommending Derby Heights would be a great deal higher.

Reply from Rachel Tattershaw, Home Manager at Derby Heights Care Home - Avery Healthcare

I am extremely sorry that you are not entirely happy with the meals being served here at Derby Heights, but and I want to assure you that this will be a priority area for me to look into as the new Home Manager.

Derby Heights is a beautiful place, that could easily be mistaken for a 5-star hotel on first viewing. The communal areas and bedrooms are kept spotlessly clean. The facilities for the residents are first class for their care needs (like the assisted bathrooms) and for the leisure activities (like the on-site cinema). The rooms are very spacious and all seem to have nice views. The staff, are very friendly and welcoming, they try their best to provide individualised care to each of the residents, all the time, which is greatly appreciated as 'one size does not fit all' when dealing with people and their needs.

From a family point of view, this has proved to be a safe and secure environment that does not resemble the usual "care home". My father feels that it is like a 5 star hotel. He thoroughly enjoys the meals and the evening entertainment. He only moved in in May so is just beginning to settle to his new environment and routines.

The staff at Derby Heights always make my daily visits very welcoming. The care and support to my loved one was constant and nothing requested was too much of an issue to get sorted almost immediately. My friend enjoyed her days out in the garden with the trees surrounding her and the sun on her face drinking and chatting under parasol.

The musical entertainment is fantastic and she joined in with the singing as she used to belong to a choir. My friend was contented at Derby Heights. Thank you for all your support during a difficult 6 months.

I was truly astonished when I first saw Derby Heights. I have never seen a residential home like it. It's more like a 5 star hotel. To have a private dining room and a cinema in a residential home is quite unique. I have also noticed that the people that we have are called residents and not patients. The staff also make you feel like you have left your nearest and dearest in safe hands. The best thing for me is that you have guest rooms as I live in Bournemouth. It makes it feel like I'm visiting her.

Derby Heights was yet again up to it's usual high standard. The only issue we have had is with it's mix ups with laundry. I don't know if you can do anything to avoid this. My mum is missing s brand new pair of black/dark grey trousers and has brought home a pair of navy trousers that don't belong to her.

As a regular visitor to Derby Heights Care Home, I have been very impressed by the building, its facilities and the caring staff. My friend the resident is very pleased with the treatment he is receiving and has settled well. The only drawback appears to be the food, drinks no problem, but the food does not always appeal! I have not eaten any apart from cakes which are very good with tea, but I understand there have been complaints.

Particularly comfortable, with an extremely pleasing ambience throughout. Staff always pleasant and willing to assist at all times. The reception area has a welcoming atmosphere, no doubt mainly down to the cheerful approach by the staff.

My dad has been in this Avery home since just after Easter on respite and now long term. This home is beautiful and feels like a 4-5 star hotel, well designed and maintained, and clean. All the staff have been very welcoming, from our first visit to pick up information when the reception staff were wonderful and continue to be so helpful and approachable. Nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff that we have had contact with during this time. I have had contact and dealings with other care homes but this one has been great.

The building is well designed and the facilities and staff cannot be faulted. The gardens are well laid out and maintained. We had accomodation on the rear of the building and despite the fact that there is a major road less than 100m very little noise was heard.
