From a family point of view, this has proved to be a safe and secure environment that does not resemble the usual "care home". My father feels that it is like a 5 star hotel. He thoroughly enjoys the meals and the evening entertainment. He only moved in in May so is just beginning to settle to his
new environment and routines.

The staff at Derby Heights always make my daily visits very welcoming. The care and support to my loved one was constant and nothing requested was too much of an issue to get sorted almost immediately. My friend enjoyed her days out in the garden with the trees surrounding her and the sun on her face
drinking and chatting under parasol.
The musical entertainment is fantastic and she joined in with the singing as she used to belong to a choir. My friend was contented at Derby Heights. Thank you for all your support during a difficult 6 months.

I was truly astonished when I first saw Derby Heights. I have never seen a residential home like it. It's more like a 5 star hotel. To have a private dining room and a cinema in a residential home is quite unique. I have also noticed that the people that we have are called residents and not patients.
The staff also make you feel like you have left your nearest and dearest in safe hands. The best thing for me is that you have guest rooms as I live in Bournemouth. It makes it feel like I'm visiting her.

I was extremely impressed by the facilities and the professionalism of the members of staff my friend and I met when visiting an elderly friend.
I was greatly relieved to see our friend looking much improved from when we last saw her. A very happy visit and we look forward to visiting again.

Derby Heights was yet again up to it's usual high standard. The only issue we have had is with it's mix ups with laundry. I don't know if you can do anything to avoid this. My mum is missing s brand new pair of black/dark grey trousers and has brought home a pair of navy trousers that don't belong to
her.

Excellent facilities and care.
Nothing is too much trouble for any member of the team. The lady at reception is very friendly and offers a warm welcome. The team leader on Chatsworth - very efficient. Surroundings, decor etc. all up to the expected standard.

As a regular visitor to Derby Heights Care Home, I have been very impressed by the building, its facilities and the caring staff. My friend the resident is very pleased with the treatment he is receiving and has settled well. The only drawback appears to be the food, drinks no problem, but the food
does not always appeal! I have not eaten any apart from cakes which are very good with tea, but I understand there have been complaints.

Particularly comfortable, with an extremely pleasing ambience throughout. Staff always pleasant and willing to assist at all times. The reception area has a welcoming atmosphere, no doubt mainly down to the cheerful approach by the staff.

My dad has been in this Avery home since just after Easter on respite and now long term. This home is beautiful and feels like a 4-5 star hotel, well designed and maintained, and clean. All the staff have been very welcoming, from our first visit to pick up information when the reception staff were
wonderful and continue to be so helpful and approachable. Nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff that we have had contact with during this time. I have had contact and dealings with other care homes but this one has been great.

The building is well designed and the facilities and staff cannot be faulted. The gardens are well laid out and maintained. We had accomodation on the rear of the building and despite the fact that there is a major road less than 100m very little noise was heard.

Brilliant, wonderful, marvellous. A refuge in a time of need, Feeling much refreshed. If I was to suggest any improvements I would ask that staff communicate better. ie. filling forms in for food, still received food I didn't like.

As I'm my husbands carer I can only comment on Derby Heights as we experienced it with so few occupants. The care and attention that he has had was excellent in all areas. Due to his difficulty in standing and walking he was unable to move around the home without the assistance of two carers. One important
asset was being able to dine with him on several occasions. When the care home is at full capacity there will be a different ambience. I have no critical comments to make at all about the excellent love and caring that he enjoyed during his short stay. Derby Heights can only be a great assets to the city.

My dad, a stroke victim, recently spent a weeks respite while my mum, his lifetime carer had a cataract operation. My dad was made to feel welcome form the moment we arrived, with staff introducing themselves in stages so not to overwhelm him. The flowers and card in his room were a lovely touch and
having lunch with him before leaving him, certainly helped us all during this difficult time. The home has only recently opened there wasn't many residents so my dad was certainly spoilt by everyone. The rooms were lovely and made to feel like home from home. The meals were varied with good choice and all homemade. All in all my dad enjoyed his stay and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Derby Heights or use them again.

Mother stayed for a weeks respite while I had a holiday. She enjoyed lots of attention and every effort was made to ensure her stay was to her liking. The welcoming touch of a bouquet of flowers and card really couldn't have been improved on. The chef worked very hard to supply the type of food she
likes.

My mother was the only resident in Derby Heights as it had only just opened. She needed a profile bed so was given a premium room with one in. She was looked after very well. She was given a choice of when she went to bed and when she wanted to get up in the morning. She was given an excellent choice
of food, all home-made and of high quality. She had a blister on her leg and they arranged an appointment straight away at her doctors. I would highly recommend it there.

Diane believes that her natural affinity for care drew her to the sector initially, and her passion for residents wellbeing and independence drives her ongoing commitment to the role. She lives with her husband in South Yorkshire, and enjoys spending time with her family.

As she felt ready for a fresh challenge, February 2024 heralds a major change for Jo as she has taken on the Head Housekeeper role. With all of Jo's care experience, she is a valuable asset and has lots of drive and enthusiasm to achieve the highest standards for our residents. Jo is local to Derby and enjoys spending time with her family, going to the cinema and socialising.

Janet Greaves

Job Title: Head Chef

Joined: 2022

Janet brings a wealth of experience to Derby Heights on the culinary front and has had an illustrious career since leaving catering college. She has worked in a number of high-profile hotels and restaurants including a 5* restaurant and bistro in Cornwall for ten years. Covid heralded a change for Janet when hotels and restaurants were closed, she sought an alternate route and found herself working in the kitchens of care establishments.


Janet joined our team in 2022 and now focuses on tasty and nutritious meals for our residents. She has a seven-year-old boxer cross dog that keeps her busy outside of work and she also rides a Harley Davidson in her spare time.

Job Title: Administrator

Joined: 2023

Lena joined Derby Heights in 2023 as a Customer Service Associate and whilst she really enjoyed the front-of-house role, when an opportunity arose for an Administrator she jumped at the chance. Lena is originally from the USA but has settled in Derby with her husband & cat, and she is getting to know the area and soaking up the Derbyshire culture and accent.

Sarah joined us as one of our receptionists originally, and got to know our residents and relatives very well. Since finishing her degree course in Events Management she has transitioned to the role of Well-Being Coordinator. Job Title: Maintenance Operative

Joined: 2025

Nigel has 24 years experience of working in the care industry, where his first position was in the kitchen. He then took up a maintenance position and never looked back. As a previous motor technician, he is used to fixing things and tinkering, so joining Derby Heights is a home from home. Nigel lives in Staffordshire with his wife and has four children and ten grandchildren.
