The staff are very conscientious, helpful and caring, but seem to have too much paperwork, so a lot of rushing about. Our hostess works tirelessly organising daily activities. I have been a resident in the home for four years and am very happy, despite the Coronavirus.

Five years ago, in March 2016, I became a permanent resident of The Manor House, and have never regretted my decision to do so. This is especially true in the past twelve months during the difficult year of the Covid pandemic. I am so glad to be here where I have a lovely room, am well cared for, warm,
well-fed, have friends to talk to, and a range of activities provided. There have been limited safe opportunities for visiting. Staff and residents are Covid tested regularly, and we have all had our first Covid vaccination.

I feel that the staff at the Manor House know my mum and genuinely care about her well-being. They are excellent at keeping the family informed of events within the home as well as any issues mum may have personally. The same staff care for mum with as little use of agency staff as possible so, despite
her dementia, she has familiar faces around her. I feel confident that the carers know mum, her interests and moods, and are therefore well placed to know when things are not quite right and work quickly to resolve this. It's been hard not seeing mum every day during the lockdown, but staff have called with updates, brought mum to the window to wave, arranged WhatsApp chats, and allowed socially-distanced garden visits. And mum always raves about the Sunday roasts!

Mum moved into The Manor House 2 weeks before the COVID-19 lockdown hit us all. Mum has dementia and limited mobility. She finds it difficult to talk on the telephone. The staff have been endlessly patient with our phone calls and have supported mum to use her tablet for FaceTime, giving her privacy
but being there as needed. They worked with us to give mum a lovely birthday party at the beginning of May and have enabled visits 'through glass' and now visits in the gardens. They couldn't be kinder or more flexible. This is a brilliant place.

My mother has been resident in the care home for approximately three and a half years. She is happy there, well cared for and feels safe and secure.
During the current pandemic and visiting restrictions, the team at The Manor House have been very proactive in sending information and updates and facilitating
communication with family members via telephone and Facetime calls whenever requested. They have remained positive and supportive despite the very difficult circumstances and we know that Mum is being well looked after and cared for.

The home is a very pleasant environment to live in. Staff are very friendly, but occasionally thin on the ground. My fathers biggest issue relates to food in dining room service slow, often cold food instead of hot. Quality of food, not the best, he ordered an omelette (mushroom) for lunch - it was
a very small omelette, no salad or other accompaniments with it - this was his main meal of the day, portions small.

There are many good and positive things about the care and service in The Manor House, but not all the staff are caring and diligent. Some are excellent, which levels my answer to satisfactory. My overall impression is that this is a good, upmarket care home with a friendly atmosphere with hardworking, conscientious, regular staff at all levels as far as I can observe. This has greatly improved with the excellent home manager over the last 18 months-2 years. I sometimes notice there are staff

My mum lived at The Manor House for a year and celebrated her 90th birthday there. The care she received was exceptional. The kindness of the staff, the respectful way in which she was always treated and the thought that went into her care are first representations of the wonderful place that it is.
It made the last year of her life a happy one and for that, we have Manor House to thank.

What a beautiful home, very welcoming staff who are lovely with residents and all who visit. Comfortable and inviting surroundings with lots going on to keep residents entertained, all staff got involved with activities, with the lifestyle co-ordinator who is fantastic. Even the maintenance man got
involved which created a great atmosphere in the home. Afternoon tea was served with delicious cakes and there was fruit on tables throughout the home for residents to help themselves.
The care team was always on hand and took time to talk with residents. My overall experience was excellent. Well done to The Manor House team.

My name is Klara Spatenkova, I am the Manager at The Manor House in Knaresborough.


I qualified as a general nurse in the Czech Republic where I grew up and have lived in Harrogate for 17 years. I have been at The Manor House for over 5 years and progressed to my current position internally.


I truly believe that our team delivers person-centred care that is in accordance with Anchor's values. Our home is located in the market town of Knaresborough and has a cosy family feel. We have close community links and are always looking at new ways to engage our neighbours and local groups to enhance our residents experiences.

I am the Activity Co-ordinator at The Manor House in Knaresborough and have been here for six years.


I co-ordinate all of the daily activities and plan events such as seasonal fayres, entertainment and excursions. The activities are tailored to suit our residents interests and we pride ourselves in executing a person-centred approach in all we do.


I love being a part of the team here and working alongside the residents who I consider to be family. It is more than just a job to me.
