The carers at The Manor House, Knaresborough went above and beyond the call of duty in caring for both my father and father-in-law. The residents were treated with respect during their life at The Manor for over 30 months, and as their needs changed so did the care. The end of life care was given in
a loving way. During the Covid pandemic, the care home staff made every effort to allow access for visiting, although sometimes this was not possible.

The staff are very conscientious, helpful and caring, but seem to have too much paperwork, so a lot of rushing about. Our hostess works tirelessly organising daily activities. I have been a resident in the home for four years and am very happy, despite the Coronavirus.

Five years ago, in March 2016, I became a permanent resident of The Manor House, and have never regretted my decision to do so. This is especially true in the past twelve months during the difficult year of the Covid pandemic. I am so glad to be here where I have a lovely room, am well cared for, warm,
well-fed, have friends to talk to, and a range of activities provided. There have been limited safe opportunities for visiting. Staff and residents are Covid tested regularly, and we have all had our first Covid vaccination.

I feel that the staff at the Manor House know my mum and genuinely care about her well-being. They are excellent at keeping the family informed of events within the home as well as any issues mum may have personally. The same staff care for mum with as little use of agency staff as possible so, despite
her dementia, she has familiar faces around her. I feel confident that the carers know mum, her interests and moods, and are therefore well placed to know when things are not quite right and work quickly to resolve this. It's been hard not seeing mum every day during the lockdown, but staff have called with updates, brought mum to the window to wave, arranged WhatsApp chats, and allowed socially-distanced garden visits. And mum always raves about the Sunday roasts!

Mum moved into The Manor House 2 weeks before the COVID-19 lockdown hit us all. Mum has dementia and limited mobility. She finds it difficult to talk on the telephone. The staff have been endlessly patient with our phone calls and have supported mum to use her tablet for FaceTime, giving her privacy
but being there as needed. They worked with us to give mum a lovely birthday party at the beginning of May and have enabled visits 'through glass' and now visits in the gardens. They couldn't be kinder or more flexible. This is a brilliant place.

My mother has been resident in the care home for approximately three and a half years. She is happy there, well cared for and feels safe and secure.
During the current pandemic and visiting restrictions, the team at The Manor House have been very proactive in sending information and updates and facilitating
communication with family members via telephone and Facetime calls whenever requested. They have remained positive and supportive despite the very difficult circumstances and we know that Mum is being well looked after and cared for.

Thank you for being so wonderful. Mum is extremely well looked after. She is so happy and I am so thrilled. She is safe, warm, well-fed and really well looked after. It really helps me cope with life and my difficult situation as a carer for my husband. I am reassured she is being so well looked after
in this very difficult time we are all living through.

The home is a very pleasant environment to live in. Staff are very friendly, but occasionally thin on the ground. My fathers biggest issue relates to food in dining room service slow, often cold food instead of hot. Quality of food, not the best, he ordered an omelette (mushroom) for lunch - it was
a very small omelette, no salad or other accompaniments with it - this was his main meal of the day, portions small.
Reply from Paula Caliskan, Manager at The Manor House KnaresboroughThank you for taking the time to review The Manor House Knaresborough and we are pleased that you are extremely likely to recommend our home. We use a dependency tool to ensure that there are sufficient staff on each shift to provide high-quality care for our residents. Our evening meal is served from heated trolleys to ensure our food is of an appropriate temperature when served. There are always alternative menu choices available at mealtimes, and we have regular resident and relative meetings, where input into our menus is welcome.

There are many good and positive things about the care and service in The Manor House, but not all the staff are caring and diligent. Some are excellent, which levels my answer to satisfactory. The evening meal is poor and the soup often cold. We have heard other residents complain also. The staff are
prompt in alerting us to problems.

My overall impression is that this is a good, upmarket care home with a friendly atmosphere with hardworking, conscientious, regular staff at all levels as far as I can observe. This has greatly improved with the excellent home manager over the last 18 months-2 years. I sometimes notice there are staff
carer shortages, putting more pressure on existing staff. (Need more good, regulars).
Reply from Paula Caliskan, Manager at The Manor House KnaresboroughThank you for your review of The Manor House Knaresborough and we are pleased that you rate our overall standard as excellent. We have recently supported a couple of our members of staff to change role to assist with their career progression. We always ensure that the required number of staff are on each shift to provide the required levels of care, where our senior members of staff actively support with this.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.824)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.824) out of 10 for The Manor House Knaresborough is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 21 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.824 for The Manor House Knaresborough is calculated as follows: ( (211 Excellents x 5) + (34 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 250 Ratings = 4.824
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Manor House Knaresborough is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 75 registered maximum number of service users is 15, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
