When a close relative is suffering from dementia, it is crucial that the team charged with caring for them has the expertise, experience, empathy and high order communication skills, which ensures that the resident's needs are met and that the relative fears and concerns are allayed.

The Manor House is an exceptional residential home. It is purpose built, spacious and comfortable, and the atmosphere is relaxed and calm. The home is very well managed. The manager is 'hands-on', warm and approachable, and feedback from residents and relatives is actively encouraged. All concerns are
taken seriously and addressed promptly as far as possible, however minor.


The home's greatest asset is its staff team. I have found the staff without exception to be professional, caring, patient and always respectful of residents and their needs. Residents are treated as individuals and encouraged to make choices, for example as to how much they want to join in with communal activities. The staff are always available for as long as they are needed.


Regular residents' meetings are held, and there is a varied programme of activities each week. The recent appointment of a physiotherapist reflects the careful monitoring of each resident's health need and general wellbeing.


We need more residential homes like this one, and we feel very fortunate to have found it.

The one thing that is a disadvantage is the limited garden space. Nowhere for residents to walk when not allowed out on their own. This is no fault of the staff, they do organise outings and walks into town.

The house has a lovely happy atmosphere, plenty of entertainment and events laid on for all tastes.


Super hair salon run by two lovely ladies. Laundry does an excellent job but short staffed. Just wish my husband could have been in a well run and beautiful home as this.


It depends on good management

and someone who listens to people's concern and then does something about them. We have a very good physiotherapist, this I have benefitted from.

After working for the health service for 45 years, both as a nursing auxiliary and healthcare assistant working with the elderly and mental health care (now retired), I was very impressed at the overall standard of care and support given to the clients. Management and staff treated them with care, dignity
and respect.


Rooms and facilities are kept clean and tidy.

My parents have been residents in The Manor House for over 12 months. They have been treated with dignity and respect. The facilities, meals and activities are all of a very high standard. The staff and management are both approachable and caring. The rooms are to a high standard, en-suites, and cleaned
daily. Residents and visitors are made to feel very welcome, with good lounge areas to sit and talk, as well as in well-equipped rooms. I would recommend this home to anyone.

My wife moved into the Manor House, Knaresborough at the end of March 2017. The family chose this place as the best available in the area irrespective of price - also, it happened to be opposite the house where she lived as a child! Our experience has been that the Manor House is not just a beautiful
place, but even more important, the staff are caring, friendly, experienced and supportive. Nothing is perfect, but it is difficult to find fault. Perhaps the laundry is too good at losing clothing! Top marks to the organisation of events for residents and the meals are of a high standard. If you need a care home, then it is difficult to imagine a better place.

Mum is treated with great dignity and respect during all aspects of her care.
All the staff are helpful and friendly and always have time to talk about any aspect of her care.
Food is excellent and she has gained weight since becoming a resident.
Her room is always clean along with the wet room adjoining.

My mother has been a resident at The Manor House since the summer of 2016. She suffers from dementia and moving from her home in Surrey to North Yorkshire was a tumultuous event in her life. However, neither she nor I had any real need to worry as the staff at The Manor house have been fantastic in
their care and support for her since her move. The staff are very professional as well as being friendly towards her. They are genuinely fond of their residents and this shows through when either I or my family visit.


The facilities and arranged activities in this new home are excellent value particularly compared to those I had seen elsewhere. I know my mother loves it there and that the stress of leaving her home of many years has been overcome thanks to everybody's kind actions.

This is truly a five-star care home. The environment is of a very high standard, there is an amazing attention to detail and rooms are exceptionally well furnished. The manager is outstanding and the staff team are approachable. My mum moved to The Manor House from another care home in Harrogate and
for the same price, the standard is incomparable. Relatives are always welcomed and can help themselves to cake and refreshments which are always available. The quality of activities is good and staff put a lot of time and effort into the activities which are provided. The gardens are fabulous and my mum spent a lot of time outside in the summer time under the parasol umbrellas. I would without reservation, totally recommend this care home to anyone who is discerning and expects a high standard of care. What a relief to find somewhere so very different from many other care homes. Many relatives are disbelieving when they visit my mum and want to put their own names down for a room!

My name is Klara Spatenkova, I am the Manager at The Manor House in Knaresborough.


I qualified as a general nurse in the Czech Republic where I grew up and have lived in Harrogate for 17 years. I have been at The Manor House for over 5 years and progressed to my current position internally.


I truly believe that our team delivers person-centred care that is in accordance with Anchor's values. Our home is located in the market town of Knaresborough and has a cosy family feel. We have close community links and are always looking at new ways to engage our neighbours and local groups to enhance our residents experiences.

I am the Activity Co-ordinator at The Manor House in Knaresborough and have been here for six years.


I co-ordinate all of the daily activities and plan events such as seasonal fayres, entertainment and excursions. The activities are tailored to suit our residents interests and we pride ourselves in executing a person-centred approach in all we do.


I love being a part of the team here and working alongside the residents who I consider to be family. It is more than just a job to me.
