The team at Upton Dene are passionate about enriching the lives of their residents with inspiring activities.

The home has its own trishaw for residents to enjoy trips out into the community. Every week they have visits from therapy dog Ned and the residents enjoy regular visits from the University of Chester’s choir of student nurses. The local community are also invited to the home's Memory Café afternoons (1.30pm to 3.30pm), supporting local people living with dementia and their loved ones.

The home has a giant interactive tablet, which is wonderful for games. And many of the residents love to grow their own produce in the gardening club. There are also trips out into the community in the home’s minibus.

The home is modern, light and airy, with some very special spaces for the residents to enjoy. The bedrooms are beautifully decorated, with ensuite walk in wet rooms. Some bedrooms have direct access to the gardens. The residents enjoy home-cooked meals in the dining rooms, and there is a private dining area for residents to enjoy special occasions with loved ones. There is also a vintage tearoom, a lovely spot to relax with family, who are welcome to visit at any time.

Upton Dene has a hair and beauty salon, with a mobile hairdresser visiting for weekly appointments. And the cinema room is a lovely spot to relax and watch old classics with a glass of fizz and some popcorn.

The gardens are also beautiful, with a pavilion, sensory planting and a vegetable patch for residents who enjoy a spot of gardening.

Providing residential, dementia, nursing and palliative care, the team also provide respite care breaks, which can be booked in advance.

Delighted with the care for my mother. Staff are always responsive and helpful. The staff are also cheerful and willing to engage with residents and visitors. I know my mother is in safe hands.

As a family, we were very pleased with the care provided to my dad during the final period of his life.
All of the staff were always attentive, caring and supportive to both Dad and the family, at a difficult time. Great dignity and respect were shown.
We loved Dad's room. The care home was always
bright which made for a happy place.

My dad came into Upton Dene in March, initially on respite care and is now a permanent resident. Making the decision to place a loved one in a home is never easy, however, the staff at Upton Dene have consistently been very supportive and positive, making the whole situation a lot easier on our family.
My dad is well cared for and safe, he is more settled and comfortable in his surroundings. Thank you to the staff who have made a difference, it is appreciated.

There is never anyone on the front desk. I've had several experiences of having to wait outside for ten minutes or more before being let in and I have also been locked in with no one on the desk to let me out. The staff seem to spend their time smoking by the side entrance and often smell of cigarettes.

I feel mum is loved and cared for. Everywhere is clean. The staff are alert, very caring and nothing is too much trouble. As a relative of a loved one, I appreciate the kindness shown to me as well.

Since the new manageress, the home has massively improved on all counts. I have experienced proper care for three relatives with different needs, all of whom have been content and happy here. The family can relax trusting in the consistently high standards and knowing that staff are highly trained,
dedicated and experienced and that communications are prompt, knowledgeable and helpful. We are all happy as a family.

My mother has been a resident since May 2022; she was admitted as a matter of urgency following the death of my father. The staff have been wonderful since the beginning in settling and supporting both Mum and I. I have found it upsetting to see my mum's dementia worsen, but the senior staff, in particular,
couldn't be kinder. I've had more than one hug from them. The home is very nicely presented; it has a lovely, warm feeling about it. The receptionist and entertainment staff are all very good and welcoming.

My partner was moved to Upton Dene Residential and Nursing Home after a severe stroke, firstly at another care home then at another one (had him moved) which has really good facilities for him, although he doesn't enjoy being immobile it is how it is for his safety. We are able to take him out on trips
and also the home sort out all his transport for appointments. The staff really get to know patients and are good with him and do exchange banter with him. Luckily the visiting is 8-8 which is excellent.

My mother-in-law entered Upton Dene in January 2022 at the age of 101. She is a very independent character which is why she has lived so long in her own home. It was the thought of winter weather that drove her to seek care. She took a while to settle, but now she can appreciate the care she is receiving,
particularly in recent months when she has required extra care because of health issues. Help has been at hand and good care and support provided.

The overall care has been excellent. On some days, there was certainly a shortage of staff, which can cause chaos in the dementia unit. The food is excellent, and the staff are very caring. I would agree that the garden could be improved, perhaps by volunteers?

I have been a resident in Upton Dene for five years.
I cannot remember my prior existence.
At Upton Dene, I feel safe and secure and live in great comfort with the excellent staff and other residents. I feel as if I am in my own home - I certainly do not want to go anywhere else.

My brother is in receipt of excellent care, both medical care and social care. The staff are very friendly and supportive. He enjoys the meals, even though he is on a diet. The home has good access to health professionals, such as a GP and the hospital. We, his family, know that he will receive excellent
care and support, as some of his health conditions worsen. We have confidence in the staff.
