Great, friendly staff who care so much for my grandma. They go above and beyond and are always on hand. She is never without, and the room she stays in is lovely. Thanks again to all the staff for their hard work.

My mother has been a resident since May 2022; she was admitted as a matter of urgency following the death of my father. The staff have been wonderful since the beginning in settling and supporting both Mum and I. I have found it upsetting to see my mum's dementia worsen, but the senior staff, in particular, couldn't be kinder. I've had more than one hug from them. The home is very nicely presented; it has a lovely, warm feeling about it. The receptionist and entertainment staff are all very good and welcoming.

My partner was moved to Upton Dene Residential and Nursing Home after a severe stroke, firstly at another care home then at another one (had him moved) which has really good facilities for him, although he doesn't enjoy being immobile it is how it is for his safety. We are able to take him out on trips and also the home sort out all his transport for appointments. The staff really get to know patients and are good with him and do exchange banter with him. Luckily the visiting is 8-8 which is excellent.

I have nothing but admiration for the way the team look after my mother. She is so content and that means so much to me and my family. Without exception, I have praise for all members of staff.

My mother-in-law entered Upton Dene in January 2022 at the age of 101. She is a very independent character which is why she has lived so long in her own home. It was the thought of winter weather that drove her to seek care. She took a while to settle, but now she can appreciate the care she is receiving, particularly in recent months when she has required extra care because of health issues. Help has been at hand and good care and support provided.

The overall care has been excellent. On some days, there was certainly a shortage of staff, which can cause chaos in the dementia unit. The food is excellent, and the staff are very caring. I would agree that the garden could be improved, perhaps by volunteers?

I have been a resident in Upton Dene for five years.
I cannot remember my prior existence.

At Upton Dene, I feel safe and secure and live in great comfort with the excellent staff and other residents. I feel as if I am in my own home - I certainly do not want to go anywhere else.

As I live down south and my other siblings live in Australia, I need to feel confident that my mother's needs are well met. I can say, with great confidence, that all staff at Upton Dene look after her with consideration and respect. I am eternally grateful for the service they have extended to Mum and all our family.

My brother is in receipt of excellent care, both medical care and social care. The staff are very friendly and supportive. He enjoys the meals, even though he is on a diet. The home has good access to health professionals, such as a GP and the hospital. We, his family, know that he will receive excellent care and support, as some of his health conditions worsen. We have confidence in the staff.

Mum has settled very well and is happy in the care home. This is a great comfort, and she was always against going into care. She enjoys the activities and talking to staff and tells me the food is very good. Her room is very comfortable and has ensuite facilities.

My husband said covid has made things more difficult. Too many temporary staff, some of whom are not trained well enough. Food has improved a bit but some days it leaves a lot to be desired. Not a lot of fresh fruit is available. Recently, over a four or five day period, (during lockdown) no one was in charge to make a decision if I could take my husband out. The garden and patio are a great asset to the home but they need looking after. Not one daffodil/tulip was seen in spring. A garden can be wonderful for your mental health.

Mum, despite needing an elderly mentally infirm placement due to her difficult behaviour, has been well cared for. The seniors, in particular, are always ready to give feedback on Mum and have tried their best to integrate her into the home. I would not hesitate to recommend Upton Dene to someone who has a relative with dementia. The staff have done their best to cater for Mum's needs.

The physical environment is excellent. It feels more like a home, than a residential establishment. My father is comfortable and settled and relates well to the staff, who provide an excellent and caring service, during very difficult circumstances.

Mum was admitted ten months ago from hospital. She has no memory and doesn't realise where she is and has been violent, at times but the staff have always been very caring, kind and treat both her and all of us with dignity and a real understanding of our worries. Mum has developed a chip craving and the kitchens will produce a plate of chips for her, even when they are not on the menu. Mum is always clean and well cared for, despite being incontinent. I would highly recommend Upton Dene (nursing floor.)

My mother moved to Upton Dene in August 21 and passed away in October 21. The staff I met were kind and caring.
My mother was wearing her engagement ring and wedding ring when admitted; she never took them off. She was wearing them the last time I saw her but they were not with her when she died.
The rings were on her inventory and had been seen by myself and staff members shortly before my mother passed away, they were valuable both emotionally and financially to her and her family.
This is an ongoing issue for us, and I have drawn my own conclusions.

Please be careful with your loved one's valuables if considering this establishment.

My 89-year-old mum moved into residential care here at Upton Dene approximately 3 weeks ago. She has settled really well due to the extreme kindness and professionalism of the team here. They are amazing and I feel so much more relaxed that Mum is getting the care she deserves, at last. Nothing is too much trouble. In terms of facilities, it is extremely good. There is a hairdresser on-site a few days per week and a little shop for gifts. The cinema room is fab and Mum loves the food. Her room is spotless and well decorated. Of course, there have been minor issues but these have all been resolved. Covid continues to be a pain with restrictions but I know these are to protect Mum and I’m happy to live with these inconveniences. I am delighted, so far and I’d like to extend my thanks to all the staff who deserve the biggest medal.

Overall Experience

The bedrooms and common rooms were clean and modern, and the food of a good standard. All criticisms seem to stem from the fact that there are too few staff on duty. My father was left for long periods alone in his room. He said that he wanted to sleep but he just wasn't motivated by the "activities" which seem to have been designed for residents of declining capacity. It was 3 weeks before he learned there was a garden and then he was locked out and nobody realised. Could not recommend.
