Hartford Court is a purpose-built care home set right in the heart of Portsmouth within the Guardian’s Gate housing development adjacent to St Mary’s hospital and has a team of dedicated, caring and loving staff who support residents and their individual needs.

Hartford Court is spread over two distinct floors that offer different yet complementary care to the people of Portsmouth and surrounding areas. The ground floor offers empowering residential care where every one of their residents have their independence championed and their individual preferences supported.

On the first floor the home has a highly positive dementia specialist floor which incorporates a range of cleverly hidden elements that make living with dementia as positive an experience as possible. Highly-trained and empathetic staff make sure that each and every day their residents are greeted with a smiling face and a respectful demeanour from every member of staff that they encounter. Activities have been designed to be interesting yet meaningful and so give the residents reason to get involved rather than just filling time.

All of the individually designed bedrooms are comfortable, beautifully furnished and complete with a large and spacious wet room. The first floor also enjoys a comfortable terrace from which the residents can enjoy continuous access to the fresh air for relaxation. All rooms come with a flat screen TV and for those residents that wish there is a direct dial telephone.

Residents can socialise in the communal areas or relax in the beautiful gardens along with enjoying all inclusive home cooked meals in the dining room. Hartford Court also benefits from a hairdressing salon, inclusive daily activity schedule including trips out, access to video calling and an all inclusive laundry service.

The love and care Mum receives every day makes my heart full. Not only is she safe and healthy but every staff member - including carers, admin, kitchen, maintenance, and housekeeping teams - know her and greet her like family. Hartford Court is truly a “home”. All the residents are interacted with
individually, and there are activities every day.
The home and grounds are beautifully maintained and the rooms all reflect the residents’ uniqueness. I’m free to visit any time and I am kept fully involved in Mum’s life, and care plan.
I could not imagine a better place for Mum to live her full potential at this stage in her life.
Reply from Lindsay Mahoney, Hospitality and Well-being Lead at Hartford CourtThank you so much for taking the time to write such a lovely review of Hartford Court. All the staff really appreciate that their hard work and dedication doesn't go unnoticed. We are so happy to hear that your mum is enjoying her time at Hartford Court and that you have peace of mind that she is being looked after well and feels safe.

My husband came into the care home in September 2021. He has been well cared for by all the staff across the board, he has had a spell in hospital, and the staff at the home kept in touch and supported me with what was going on and what would be possible when he came back to the home. I feel very confident
my husband has the very best of care and support.
Reply from Alison Reijman, PR Coordinator at Hartford CourtThank you for your wonderful comments about Hartford Court. We are delighted you are so satisfied with the care and support we are giving your husband. We will share your review with our wonderful team, who are looking after him.

I came into Hartford Court in September 2021 after a long spell in hospital. I had lost much weight and the ability to walk without the aid of a walking frame and a carer to walk with me to encourage me to become more independent again. I have received marvellous care and support. I am very happy with
the home and all its staff and facilities.
Reply from Alison Reijman, PR Coordinator at Hartford CourtThank you very much for your wonderful words about Hartford Court. It's our pleasure to look after and support you. We are so delighted with the progress you have made in our care, and to see you becoming more independent. Our Hartford Court team will be so thrilled with your comments.

Seriously cannot believe that despite the Flu Vaccine being made available to the general public for around 6-8 weeks now the residents of Hartford Care in Portsmouth have still not had theirs for whatever reason and certainly not made clear, and no plan or date as to how and when it will take place.
Furthermore,
we have now made our own arrangements for our mother to get this done at a local practice quite easily. This is the GP practice we believe is linked to Hartford Court.
I/we look forward to your response on this.
Thank you.
Reply from Alison Reijman, PR Coordinator at Hartford CourtThank you for your comments. We are very sorry to hear you are disappointed that the home has not organised the flu vaccinations for the residents. However, we're working closely with our external partners to ensure a safe delivery of the flu vaccine and will do everything we can to ensure this is delivered as quickly as the surgery will allow. We would be happy to support you in raising concerns with the surgery directly.

When Mum first moved into Hartford Court we were impressed by the care, cleanliness and friendliness of the home but Mum says that standards regarding food quality and staffing levels have dropped. However, Mum was ill recently and I couldn't fault the care and attention she received. As we came out
of the pandemic, I hope Mum will report improvements in the home.
Reply from Alison Reijman, PR Coordinator at Hartford CourtThank you for your review of Hartford Court. We are delighted you are happy with the standard of care we are providing for your mum. The safety and well-being of our residents has been of paramount importance during the pandemic. Hartford care has done a fantastic job over the last 11 months since Mum joined them as a dementia resident. Hartford have dealt with Covid fantastically and maintained great communication with us over what was going on. Mum is happy in her own world at Hartford. She speaks highly of the staff, the
premises, her accommodation and the food that is served.
For their part, the staff have been brilliant and work so hard to uplift the spirits of the residents. Mum has a great rapport with them, despite her dementia.
Reply from Alison Reijman, PR Coordinator at Hartford CourtThank you very much for your wonderful words. It has been a very challenging time for all of us but we are so pleased your Mum is so happy in our care. It is our pleasure to look after her and to know she loves everything about Hartford Court. We shall ensure everyone here knows how much she appreciates being a part of our Hartford Court family.

Mum has been at Hartford Court for nearly two years. It is fantastic to know that she is in a purpose-built care home with modern facilities. Thankfully, it does not feel like the majority of care homes and offers many areas where she can go to sit. The team are very professional, caring and friendly.

My mother was fortunate to gain a residency three months ago; there have been some issues as she had been living on her own for some time and she was not looking forward to sacrificing her independence. However, she has now settled into the routine of the establishment and feels part of the Hartford
Court 'family'. The three month settling in period was managed extremely well by the administrative team who have done a fantastic job of convincing my mother that she is now an integral part of 'Team Hartford'. The care staff at Hartford Court are very engaging, polite and extremely proficient. The administration staff are very efficient and effective, there are no problems just solutions, a fabulous way to run a service organisation. The health care provided is second to none and I have nothing but praise for their dedication and caring approach. The food is also excellent, always well prepared and presented. The accommodation is five star, light, bright and airy; a lovely environment.

Our mother has been a resident at Hartford Court for 4 months, following several 2 week stays for respite care previously. The staff are professional and caring and always treat the residents with respect and dignity. There are regular activities for the residents and trips out when the weather permits.
The building is modern and always clean and the food is excellent. There is also a large garden which is utilised by the residents in warmer weather. We, as a family, would thoroughly recommend Hartford Court to anyone seeking a safe and comfortable residence for a loved one.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.652)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.652) out of 10 for Hartford Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.677 for Hartford Court is calculated as follows: ( (164 Excellents x 5) + (52 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 226 Ratings = 4.677
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.975 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hartford Court is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 64 registered maximum number of service users is 12.8, which has been reached with 19 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
