Review from Rosemary G (Sister of Resident) published on 25 November 2020 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My sister, aged 95, has been a resident in Ferrars Hall Care Home for just over a year and I cannot stress enough how well she has been cared for. She has very little mobility, is confined to her chair and needs help to get to and from the bathroom for toilet needs and showers and to get in and out of bed. She is also partially sighted due to macular degeneration.
She has been treated with loving care and dignity throughout her stay and has told me several times that she looks on Ferrars Hall as her home.
During her stay, she has had several bouts of sickness and has been nursed back to health with constant care and supervision.
Staff have taken the trouble to talk to her about her life and have shown an interest in her history.

I live in the North of England and even before the Coronavirus I wasn’t able to visit often and it’s such a relief to know she is being so well looked after. The continued contact with relatives is second to none and very reassuring.

My mother has been at Ferrars Hall for only a few weeks, so it is quite difficult for me to assess Ferrars Hall accurately and fairly as I have only visited her once due to Covid-19.

The Customer Relations Manager has been extremely helpful and shows a very positive and caring attitude towards the family.

Dear Paul, thank you so much for your review of Ferrars Hall. All-though your Mother has only been with us a short while, she is already a part of our big family, she is a pleasure to have with us, and we look forward to seeing you again very soon.

All the best.

My mum had been looking to move into a care home due to reduced mobility but things were sped up by the corona virus when she was discharged from hospital far too early; the customer relations manager was amazing and made our decision an easy one. Even though we couldn’t visit in person due to lockdown she organised her first virtual tour so we could “Look around”, Mum moved in at the end of March and they made her comfortable and a lot of time was spent settling her in, managing her pain and making a trusting relationship with her. We were kept informed at all times of her progress and any concerns or how I would deal with things that arose. The team actively involved Mum in playing cards and dominoes and even things like colouring - being bed-bound this meant a lot to her. Food was catered for her specifically as she was unable to eat solid foods at the time and thought was put into the menu making it varied and highly nutritional. I can’t thank the team at Ferrars Hall enough for making her final days happy.

My mother has been a resident at Ferrars Hall since December last year. From the moment we visited for an introductory lunch she was made to feel welcome and at home. The staff show kindness and compassion at all times. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the facilities light, airy and very comfortable. Even in these difficult times of the Coronavirus lockdown, the staff have gone out of their way to provide a safe and secure environment. On many occasions, they have gone beyond simply providing care to ensure that my mother's needs and desires are exceeded.

My mother was a resident for 30 months and during that whole time she was cared for in an exemplary way and on every visit to my mother, the home was extremely clean and I was made very welcome. I truly felt that all the staff genuinely cared and that her stay there was as safe, secure and comfortable as possible. In addition, the food and cakes looked great.

Overall Experience
Our mother stayed at Ferrars Hall for over three years and was always looked after with care and consideration. As her health declined, the carers kept up the good work. Although mum could be demanding at times, the carers just took it in their stride.

Earlier this year she had a stroke and as a result, entered palliative care. The Ferrars Hall team pulled together, and agreed with the health authority, a package of support. They believed that rather than Mum being transferred from hospital to a nursing home where she knew nobody; that they were the best place to look after Mum, to ensure she had the best quality of life for her final days in the place she called home and with the carers she knew.

Many, many thanks; from my brother and I.

Mum has been a resident for nearly a year now and I feel very lucky to have found such a wonderful home for her. I can’t fault the home; lovely bright and airy rooms, great food, a large communal area, plenty of activities, but most importantly, all of the staff are fantastic and really do live up to their aim to be an extension of our family. It’s a great relief knowing that Mum is being cared for by such a dedicated team. I thoroughly recommend Ferrars Hall - it truly is a home from home.

I just wanted to thank you and all the staff at Ferrar’s on behalf of my mum and myself. Despite not being on top form, Mum had a good experience staying with you and said all the carers and staff were lovely and very kind. She and I were impressed with the facilities and cleanliness too. It was a very welcoming environment. Many thanks too for your updates while Mum was there, it was very reassuring for me to know that she was being looked after so competently while I was out of the country, so I was able to have a break. It did us both good.

Ferrars Hall Care Home is a proud establishment of which in the future if I need care for myself I will be demanding that my family take me to Ferrars!

The home is not only stunning with its modern decor but the care is what makes this home superior. Even on my first visit to this home, I was instantly greeted with a family feel, it smelt beautiful! Which is always a feature I keep in mind when visiting homes. Everyone was very 'team' and resident orientated and it was great to see.

My mother went into long-term respite care at Ferrars Hall a few weeks ago. I cannot praise the staff highly enough for the support they have given not just to my mum, but also to the rest of the family, helping us through quite a challenging time. They have gone above and beyond my expectations with their care, thoughtfulness, communication and time given to help her settle in. The whole team are absolutely fabulous!

I was welcomed into Ferrars Hall Care Home on an ad hoc visit, but nothing was too much trouble. I was shown around and immediately and warmed to the environment. All the staff are engaging, welcoming and smile!
After initial reservations, I took my mother for a visit; she felt the same and could see herself living there straight away.

She has moved in permanently now and has been resident for 2 weeks. She is joining in and enjoying her new home. All the other residents also seem to be happy. It has really helped us as a family and we can now visit and sit and have a cup of tea!

From the first moment I walked into Ferrars Hall, I had a feeling that my mum would be safe in their hands. The staff have been such a huge support with the huge transition of moving a relative into a care home. My mum is very well looked after and this has given us huge peace of mind as a family. I would highly recommend Ferrars Hall.

My mother has recently spent 2 weeks at Ferrars Hall as she required respite care to support her recovery from a period of ill health. The manager's response to a very short notice request was superb and she did everything to sort out arrangements and make sure the room was located in the right area to aid her recovery. Staff all made her feel very welcome and were available if required, on hand to encourage integration without making her feel pressurised.

Mum made significant progress during her stay benefiting from attentive and caring staff who showed genuine interest in her wellbeing and responded to swiftly to any requests relating to medical support with the local surgery.

At the end of her stay, Mum had regained some of her confidence and health to be able to focus on her forthcoming move into sheltered accommodation knowing she was capable of independent living.

Thank you to all everyone at Ferrars Hall for providing such a homely environment.

My aunt needed dementia residential, I was recommended Ferrars Hall from a family member, I visited the home quite early before going to work. I was not only extremely impressed by the quality of the care home but also by the very warm welcome and excellent level of care given. The admin was very swift in arranging my aunt's transfer and made her feel at home. Truly, a "home away from home"! The care home and level of care is definitely more than 5 stars and the staff are absolutely fantastic as they are always very attentive, supporting and very friendly. It's a superb place.

When I come over, we sit in the music room. There's an aviary and a family room for the grandchildren to visit. What more can you ask for?

My 88-year-old mother settled in after a brief respite session and loves the carers and her new home.
She used to live in a local bungalow within an almshouse charity complex but this year became unable to properly look after herself.

Ferrars have helped her find her feet again.
