An excellent care home. My husband has been a resident for approx. 10 weeks and I have always been very pleased with all aspects of Ferndown Manor. Helpful, caring, well informed nursing care.

Overall, my experience was very good. Although a variety of activities were available I choose not to participate, hence the "satisfactory" score. The chefs deserve an "excellent" as they presented delicious meals despite my rather awkward diet and appeared to enjoy doing so. It was a delight to observe the love, patience and sensibility with which the residents were treated and some obviously appreciated this. The management and staff were not insensitive to sadness but were professional. I was so grateful for the peace, quiet, loving kindness, cheerfulness and care received during my 2 and a half week convalescence. I shall return many positive memories of residents, the dedicated staff (and management) as they worked during a very hot summer, in very hot uniforms. Thank you all so much.

Following a difficult few months, my aunt and uncle arrived at Ferndown at the end of April. The staff could not have been more helpful, thoughtful and caring. I have great peace of mind now knowing my uncle is safe and comfortable.

I walked into Ferndown Manor and knew immediately that it was the only care home that I wanted my Mum to live in. My Mum relocates from Herefordshire to Dorset so this was an even greater transition. Ferndown Manor has never disappointed me. My family and I visit on a daily basis and we are made to feel part of everything. It has become a home from home for all of us.

This was my first respite break and I was understandably nervous about what it would be like staying in a nursing home in my early 30's. I needn't have worried - I've had a fantastic time! The staff have been wonderful, meeting all my needs and making me feel very comfortable, the food has been terrific and I've been kept busy being entertained by the lifestyle team and the wonderful residents. I can't wait to come back again next time!

My family and I are extremely impressed with the facilities and service at Ferndown Manor.
As soon as my nan arrived earlier this month. She settled in instantly.
It was clear to see how happy and relaxed she felt.
The staff are very welcoming and always go above and beyond to ensure my nan and her visitors are comfortable.

Ferndown Manor isn't just a care home - it's a home - our home.

Ferndown Manor is a beautiful home with lovely caring staff and an excellent deputy. (Have never met the Home Manager nor has she introduced herself.) The staff are what make this home. Activities are poor with no proper plan due to no activity leader, however, this has now been addressed so hopefully, going forward, more for the residents to do. A beautiful home and overall we are happy.

Weakness in care staff.

To create continuity it would help for the manager to visit from time to time.

Sara Muslin
Sara MuslinJob Title:Home Manager

I joined Ferndown Manor in 2021. Before I joined Care UK I worked as a Home Manager for several care homes, and before that, I worked as a District Nurse Manager for 20 years.

I decided to join Care UK as the company was highly recommended and its values reflect how care should be delivered and how I would want to be cared for.

In my role as Home Manager, I want to ensure the home remains a happy, safe place where residents thrive, and the team is proud to work. I want to ensure the highest standards of care are maintained. To succeed in this role, you need to be a good listener, be empathetic, have strong leadership skills, and be a good role model.

Walking around the home first thing in the morning is my favourite part of my job as it gives me an opportunity to greet every member of staff and residents. I also love to see the atmosphere when residents are enjoying positive participation in fulfilling activities.

My biggest professional challenge so far has been taking a home from an Inadequate CQC rating to Good.
