My sister regularly returns to Greenwood Court for respite stays. She is always welcomed warmly and sees it as her wonderful second home. My sister was out into "end-of-life" care, and your care home made her last days secure, comfortable and without pain. Seeing her in her room being cared for so well made it so much less distressing for her son, daughter-in-law and myself. I cannot thank the staff enough for all the care and for the updates that were given to the family.

I attended the recent 'fair' at the home as I was invited by my brother, my sister-in-law's husband, I've known my sister-in-law for seventy-five years at least as our two families were friends.

The only aspect of the home that was not excellent was the state of the garden - the beds, the lawn etc. There were quite a few weeds around, quite a few bare patches of lawn and the box hedging was dead (due to the invasive insects that nest in it). I realise that paying a garden to maintain these area will cost money but you could ask a local gardening club if they'd do it? Probably for free - or cups of tea and cake!

Thank you for taking the time to complete our review cards, I will cascade your comments to the relevant staff and take on board your comments regarding the garden and will be looking into this matter to improve. Thank you, once again, for bringing this to my attention, hope to see you soon.

We were very impressed by the facilities when we came to visit initially. Each of the two floors has a lovely dining room and two large lounges. Meals are freshly prepared by the catering team and a cake is always made when a resident has a birthday. The cinema room is lovely and there is a range of arts and crafts in the activities room. We like a wander around the garden when we visit. We've had great peace of mind since moving Mum in and there's no greater feeling than that. To see her so happy, enjoying the company of fellow residents and staff alike is wonderful.

It was very easy to arrange a visit, prior to my mum-in-law moving in. The home visit was thorough and the staff visiting took time to find out about her favourite foods and hobbies. Since moving her in nine months ago, we have continued to be impressed by the care and respect shown to her. Activities are well-planned with visitors, including singers, a flautist and school children. The home is cleaned throughout the day and nothing is too much trouble.

My father was transferred to Baycroft after an extended stay in hospital. The staff have been extremely helpful in accommodating the transition and looking after all his needs. I became increasingly concerned about the standards of care given to my elderly relative who had spent over a year at the home. Generally, the nurses were kind and considerate. However, there were frequent staff changes, more male staff employed which she disliked. Housekeeping and laundry were significant areas of concern. Her care plan was out of date. Standards had definitely fallen. The website did not reflect reality.

Subsequently, she has moved to another home which has an outstanding accreditation.

This care home seems to have poorer standards in the past 6 months to those we experienced a year ago. The bed linen isn’t clean, the care room my mother is in is untidy. The level of care has gone down since she was first admitted in June 2022.

My three-week respite care followed me having a hysterectomy. What can I say - I had five star treatment. On entering the building the ambience was excellent. My room was exceptionally comfortable. The adjustable bed, and the recliner chair were perfect for me as they assisted me to have gentle movements. Every member of staff that I met was kind, thoughtful and respectful. They all made my stay perfect. The food was excellent, a personal menu choice every morning (three courses for lunch!). There was a full list of daily activities, and the information was provided on a weekly printout delivered to me. There were a few Birthday Celebrations while I was at Baycroft Great Baddow

and these were held in the Bistro area with all welcome. The gardens were lovely, and I eventually was able to go out and sit there when the weather was clement. In all, I cannot recommend Baycroft highly enough.

Mum came to Baycroft Great Baddow after a prolonged stay in hospital and respite was paramount for both her and the family. It was only intended as a two-week stay but eventually was nearly 6 weeks.
From the first conversation with the team, our family has nothing but praise for Baycroft. In particular, they were fantastic with the discharge from hospital, medication checks and all the medical notes and administration.
Mum was made to feel special from the moment she walked through the doors, and after a long hospital stay the hairdresser stayed beyond her normal working hours to wash and blowdry Mum's hair. Its the little gestures that make such a big difference.
On the medical team and her colleagues were notable - they so clearly care for their residents.
On the many visits there was never anything other than positive 'can do' attitudes from the whole team.
Baycroft really is a home and not an institution.

We won't hesitate a moment if Mum needs respite care again.

Overall, we are very pleased with the care at Baycroft Care Home, Great Baddow Chelmsford. The staff are all very caring and considerate to residents and visitors alike. However, the one thing that lets it down quite considerably are the gardens, which are well below what you expect from a "luxury" care home. A gardener once a week isn't enough to maintain these gardens. Several residents we spoke to, feel the same.

My dad,94, came to Baycroft to allow my mum some rest time. Dad has dementia and is wheelchair-bound. Mum has been looking after him at home but following a fall Dad went to hospital and came to Baycroft. They had never been apart for more than a week and during Dad’s stay were due to celebrate their 71st anniversary, wow they were treated like royalty, a beautiful meal, decorations and it fell on a day when a singer was in. The day was made about them, Dad sang along remembering the words and smiling and laughing. I can’t thank the staff enough, they always make sure my mum is fed before going home and that they are both happy. The beautiful garden is a great reminder to Dad about the beautiful garden he had at home and he talks about how they should improve it. Keep doing what you are doing, showing compassion to all the family and making their time apart easier.

This is not going to be a great review as, after 3 months, my 95-year-old father was asked to leave for making misogynistic comments to some members of staff. Before my father was asked to leave I would have rated Baycroft highly, however, my father has moved to another care home and I have realised some drawbacks with Baycroft.
Baycroft is a very photogenic home with very good facilities.
Most of the staff are very friendly and helpful. Although my 94-year-old Mum was not a resident, she spent a lot of time at Baycroft and the staff could not have been kinder.
The care can be patchy with a lot of agency staff employed especially at the weekend.
Medical care is not really as good as it should be. I think management needs to be strengthened on the medical side.

There is no standard for how long it should take to reply to a patient call so response times are variable but it can be more than 15 minutes.

Reply from Sophie Baker, Head of sales and marketing at Greenwood Court Great Baddow

Thank you for your review of our home, we are sorry to hear the negative comments you have about your father’s stay with us. Unfortunately, we were unable to meet his needs and as you alluded to, he did display discriminatory behaviour towards our staff which subsequently led us to serve him notice. We are, however, very pleased to hear that he is happy at his new home.
