Initial contact with Weald has been very positive. The staff are very welcoming and show great care and interest in not only the residents but their relatives and friends. In the short time my wife has been a resident she has felt relaxed and happy and frequently praises the quality of not only the food but the level of care and attention she receives.

My mother, who has dementia and poor mobility, has been at Weald Heights for just over a year. The staff are always caring, professional and helpful. Mum is safe, well cared for and there are always planned events to keep residents busy and entertained.

Overall Experience

Overall a caring, well-run home. I would respectfully ask if it would be possible to put a list of unclaimed clothes in the lobby when clothes have been lost or are missing residents' names as it is distressing when items of clothing go missing. If staff do not know who clothes belong to. Thank you.

Reply from Samantha Debenham, Reviews Team at Weald Heights

Dear Diane, Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback for Weald Heights. Your feedback is greatly appreciated. I would like to thank you for your suggestion around leaving the unclaimed clothes in the lobby. I am sorry to read this has become distressing and we will take your feedback on board and we will look to review this. I hope you see improvement over the coming weeks. Best wishes.

My mum continues not to engage with activities despite my telling the carers to make it her idea, i.e. "Mum you have booked to see the harpist this afternoon/entertainer it starts in 10 mins", or "Mum it's baking today - you asked to join the class so I'm letting you know it starts in 10 min etc. .....". I've even told them to phone me and I will get her to participate. This makes it her idea.
It does not get the beneficial response if they say - 'the art class in on now do you want to come ?', answer 'no'.
Last week she did 90 mins of activity only We chose this home as it did lots of things in a day but my mother is not doing them and for £8k a month to sit and do nothing makes me so mad!

Also the laundry boil everything despite my labeled clothes and telling them I will launder her jumpers! I am loathed not to let her wear her cozy cashmere jumpers, Alpaca cardigan, Hebridean wool jacket but lazy laundry department refuses to look/feel, so shrunk clothes are in hidden wardrobe.

My father-in-law has been at Weald Heights for 4 years and is happy and well cared for. He enjoys participating in activities, going to the cinema and particularly the outings to pubs and cafes. When I visit I am always warmly welcomed by staff and I appreciate the provision of coffee and cakes! I have got to know a couple of the staff members who look after Dad and I feel that communications are good. I am very happy that he is there and would highly recommend Weald Heights.

Review from Paula P (Daughter of Resident) published on 24 October 2024 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My mother has been a resident at Weald Heights for just over three years. During that time her mental and physical health has declined significantly, to the extent she has been bed-bound for and has required complete nursing care for most of that time. My sister and I have nothing but the highest praise for the way the staff has looked after her. They always show great compassion and treat her with dignity, even though she can be a very difficult lady due to her vascular dementia. We are so relieved that we chose Weald Heights as we do not feel there is anywhere else where our mother could have been looked after as well. We have no hesitation in recommending it without reservation.

My mum has been at Weald Heights for around 9 months. During this time she has been cared for with outstanding kindness and dignity. She has been on so many trips out, including the seaside, which is fantastic. The entertainment is superb, lots of music of all kinds, with regular live performances. The amazing care staff look after her every need, they know us so well, that it feels like visiting a whole family. We couldn't be happier about our choice to have our mum looked after in such an amazing place. We are forever grateful to the staff, who work so hard to create a home-from-home feel. Thank you so much on behalf of me and my family.

Thank you Weald Heights for such a wonderful 92nd birthday party for my mother-in-law in July. It was held outside in the beautiful garden under the gazebo. She was given a fabulous birthday cake and it was a really happy occasion.

The staff are always extremely courteous, friendly and welcoming when I call to see clients who are living at Weald Heights. They have been very helpful in forwarding post to me which makes my job a lot easier, and have always made any clients who have moved there feel most welcome. We attended the garden party and our mother and both of us really enjoyed the day. The entertainer was great and had everyone jigging along to his music. The atmosphere was friendly and fun and everyone there seemed to have a great time.

Every time I visit I enjoy looking through the book of photographs in reception and seeing the wide variety of activities and trips out that the residents have been taking part in.

My mum has been at Weald Heights since April, we moved her from another local care home where she wasn't happy. As a family, we cannot believe the change in our mum. She is so happy and loves being at Weald Heights. She has made lots of new friends and the entertainment team do an amazing job of keeping everyone engaged, stimulated and having fun. All the staff at Weald Heights go above and beyond to make sure the residents are happy and cared for. I cannot recommend them highly enough. Thank you to the whole team for being so amazing in what you do!

Our aunt had to leave her home, where she had wished to see out her life when the live-in carers were no longer able to meet her needs. We were all concerned that moving her would be traumatic for our aunt but our concerns were unfounded as the care and attention she is receiving at Weald Heights has been excellent. Although frail, she has settled seemingly very well and is encouraged to participate and do more for herself.

The application to Weald Heights and the eventual move was very smooth and we are grateful to all concerned for their help in this respect.

Maria Covington
Maria CovingtonJob Title:Home ManagerJoined: 2016

I’m a registered nurse by training and have worked in older people’s care for 25 years. Before joining Weald Heights in 2016, I had managed a large care home for ten years. I’ve been at Weald Heights since before it opened its doors. I’m delighted at the way my team and I have made it a home with a first-class reputation.

I believe in setting the standard, rather than following, and we take an innovative, personalised approach to resident care. When residents said they fancied learning a new language, we set up Spanish lessons and joined with a local parent and toddler group so that the generations could learn together. And when a gentleman, who is a keen musician, wanted to visit the Royal Albert Hall for his 90th birthday, we worked with his family to make it happen and to give him an unforgettable day.

I was delighted with our ‘good’ rating from the CQC, which we gained in September 2018. I’m now looking forward to continuing to work with my skilled and passionate team to go one better. Our aim now is to become an ‘outstanding’ provider of great care for older people in Sevenoaks, and across Kent and the South East of England.
